They seem to have a good marketing campaign going for the holidays.

Here are a couple of the commercials. Side note... does anyone know what music is in the commercials?

GM's new CEO & current Chairman Whitacre shakes up mgt

Something GM really really needed. A total shakeup of their top mgt. GM has made horrendous decisions for years and they have to look at new ways of running an auto company.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091204/bs_nm/us_gm_leadership
The changes included shifting Vice Chairman Bob Lutz to a senior advisory role and naming Nick Reilly, the head of GM Europe to oversee the restructuring of its Opel unit.

The changes gave some of GM's younger executives more control over the automaker. None of the new appointments came from outside the company.

Tom Stephens, 61, remains vice chairman of global product operations and takes on the global purchasing role, GM said.

GM named Mark Reuss, 46, president of GM North America and appointed Tim Lee, 58, to take over Reilly's former role and lead its operations in its Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa and Middle East regions.
And GM has to move faster. They can't act anymore like a huge ocean liner that takes forever to change direction.

Audi reliability or not?

I'm considering buying an Audi A4. I like the car, but I've been reading a lot of horror stories about unreliability. On the other hand, other people report no problems. Online sites like Edmunds say reliability is up in the last couple of years.

Any experience here?

I'm likely to keep the car for a long time; currently I've been driving the same Honda Civic since 1996. Though maybe I won't keep the Audi quite that long.

Top Gear's James May on the Moon documentary.

Not sure how many caught this or not. It was an interesting show, as you got to see some of the things the astronauts go thru before climbing in a shuttle.

Bet the other guys at Top Gear are Jealous as May went on the vomit comet and a U2 flight.

Displacement vs Forced Induction/ v8/12 vs 4 cyl

The infamous "Theres no replacement for displacement" debate. Looks like the V8 is in a run for it's money!

To name a few:

Subaru WRX
Mitsubishi Evo 8
Chevy Cobalt SS
Honda S2000

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJpLTB_opm4

Here's a 4 cylinder engine producing 400 Break Horsepower, which keeps up with a 12 Cylinder engine!

The Honda s200 isn't even turbo charged and it produces 120 Horsepower per liter, amazing!

Here's another video of an old Honda CRX beating a Lamborghini! It's probably got a K20 motor in it with over 200 Horsepower, mind you the CRX weighs roughly 2,000 pounds.

Battery Tender

On the advice of people here, some motorcycle forums, and general internet reviews, I bought a Battery Tender. I was about to buy the "Plus" model when I saw that Amazon has the "International" model on sale for nearly half what the MSRP price is on battery tender's website. This is basically two "Plus" models in one package.

First impressions.

Pro: Multi battery charging/tending in one unit without any additional wiring or setup needed. Even so, with proper wiring I will be able to hook up 4 or 6 batteries at once. They have a very comprehensive how-to section on their website. Quick connect extension cords are also available for the charging leads, up to 25'.

Con: Plastic body case. I knew this before buying, and it is still pretty good material. But I do wish it was the metal body like on the lower cost Plus model. Wish the charging leads were a bit longer too. Will probably buy the extensions.

I am giving it a pretty good workout right away. My Jeep has been stored until recently and the 5 year old battery will not hold a charge for more than a couple weeks even if disconnected from the Jeep. Battery Tender claims they can bring batteries back to life in some situations. We'll see.

I also hooked up an old and unkept ATV battery that has been sitting in the garage for a while. It was reading a little over 5vdc. The Tender can work with batteries so long as they are over 3vdc. A strange thing is the LED on the tender is indicating it is fully charged. I'll wait and see if this is an error because of the dire condition of the battery.

I'll post updates if anyone is interested.

Well Done, Ford!!

"Consumer Reports, in their annual initial reliability survey results released this afternoon, provides good news for Ford, which is perceived as offering quality and reliability on par with Asian automakers. Chrysler, on the other hand, dropped to near-Daewoo levels."

Looks like even the anti-domestic sources are finally admitting what's been obvious for years - Ford makes some great, reliable cars. I think they have a bright future.

Chrysler, though, seems like a lost cause.
