Old Western Electric Video

It's been storming here tonight and a combination of my DirecTv going out and nothing worth a crap to watch has lead to me surfing YouTube looking for neat stuff. I came across this video...

Staging a new network

Im in the process of rolling out a new network, and for the last two weeks Ive been staging it in the lab, configuring everything and making sure that it works as required/expected etc.

21 Cisco devices, mostly 2811 routers, all 3560 series switches, and a 7401 hand-me-down from elsewhere in the network that was no longer necessary.

Some gear has already been rolled out so is not pictured.

4-5 new towers are also being built. Most of this gear will be located at those towers, with some being located at a PoP elsewhere, and some colocated at an existing tower.

I'll be trying to get photos of the rest of the gear to share as we roll it out.

The antennas sticking out of some of the 2811's are for an Out of Band remote access solution (using HWIC-3G's) which is used when the primary network goes down so that we can get to things like console servers, masterswitches, etc.

Enjoy. :)

AT&T NDR training exercises

Came across this earlier: http://www.corp.att.com/ndr/exercises.html

Its a series of overviews of training exercises that the AT&T NDR team(s) have conducted over the years - with LOTS of pictures.

Looks like quite an extensive setup they have, and very modular.

Judging by the date of some of the exercises you could argue that AT&T invented the shipping container datacentre model. :)

Its good to see that even during these types of events they still take the time to lay everything out properly and even do some lacing of cables - even though only temporary.

Found the cable...

...with a backhoe.

Go ahead, as me how my day went. And I'm the fibre guy, not the backhoe guy. My day wasn't great. His was worse.

It actually wasn't as bad as it could have been... There's a 144 strand cable in the duct, that wasn't damaged - just the ductwork itself. Fairly easy fix, pics tomorrow...

As for those of you that wanted to know what the "conduit" under the street looks like - well, here ya go.
