[Internet] Procedure to replace BHN modem due to $2 monthly rent

I am a CFL customer.

Please provide detailed information of the process to switch from what was a non fee'd BHN modem to a privately owned modem.

Can I call up tech support and give the model and WAN MAC of the modem and have them activate the private modem over the phone on the spot as I did when I had Comcast before I moved to BHN area?

I have a Motorola SB5101 (Docsis2 capable modem) and a Cisco DPC-3000 (Docsis 2/3 capable modem) both sitting in a drawer.

Are you going to release a list of "Approved or supported modems" that you will supply firmware updates to keep them bug patched and current?

I do not currently have lightning service, but it would make sense to activate the newer modem, so if I choose to upgrade to the lightning speed package I can use the channel bonding ability of the Cisco modem without changing modems again.

I hooked up the Cisco DPC-3000 modem and went to the modems web interface page and the modem channel locked and has down stream level at -8.5 dBmV and transmit power at 42.0 dBmV.

Quite acceptable levels, and this is with a splitter that will be removed. (remove at least another 3.5 dB from the above due to splitter attenuation)

Naturally, it failed to go online as the modem is not registered on BHN.

I would be more than happy to return the BHN modem to the main location on Americana Dr. after the privately owned modem is functionally online.

This process should not take a qualified technician more than 10 minutes to re-provision the CMTS with the new modem type and wan mac address over the phone.

Do you have a proper system in place that a user can call tech support and get routed to a qualified tech. that can do this as well as update your billing/provisioning system of the changes?

Comcast was very bad about trying to restart rental fees for privately owned modems, and then to claim after a long period that a privately owned modem was rented and want it returned when service was disconnected or customer moved.

Do you have a proper database update and procedure to keep track of this new fee as well as the fact that the customer turned in the BHN modem, or is it all done in user notes on the account?

I'm sure everyone would like the modem change outs to go smoothly here for the experienced users.

I dread the thought of calling into tier 1 techs that are not aware of the new policies, or may not know how to properly implement them, or even worse having a truck roll for this procedure.

I'm sure that there are many others on this forum like me that have modems laying around that will now be brought into service and the only reason they used the BHN provided modem is because it was included in the flat internet fee and if lightning took out the modem, it was free to have it replaced.

[TV] What happened to The Weather Channel HD?

BHN sent lineup changes to CableCARDs on 1/24 to prepare for the rolllout of the new HD channels; including The Weather Channel HD on 1225. On 1/25 all the new channels went live except 1225.

Well, they pulled it from the CableCARD lineup today. Any idea what happened? Problems setting up the "Local on 8s" equipment?

[TV] Clear QAM in Pinellas county? Just one channel?

So, I've been on FIOS for a little while and just came back to Brighthouse because of the expense. I connected my HVR-1600 to the cable and got the analog channels, but I can only find ONE unencrypted QAM channel. The rest are all encrypted...

Just one??? Really? I thought cable providers were required to mirror channels that were available OTA as a clear QAM channel. Did Brighthouse get a waiver from the FCC?

[TV] Samsung and the guide and new shows

Anyone experiencing issues with the Brighthouse guide using the Samsung DVR not recording shows? I have missed a few shows this past week because the guide does not set them as new shows. I called brighthouse support and the service helper said she has the same problem. She just changed her series manager to record all. I do not thing this is an acceptable solution to a very annoying problem. Any ideas?

To clarify: I know the show is new but the guide shows it as a repeat. This has happened to serveral shows (SNL and Idiot abroad:bucket list) this week alone

[Internet] Best Routers for Bridged Networks

There has been a few pages in the http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24683436-Get-The-Most-Out-Of-Your-Wideband-Connection~start=180 thread about which routers are best for those bridging there BHN cable modems.

@ispgeek and myself have recently purchased the ASUS RT-N56U (available from Amazon for $130, www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049YQVHE ). So far this router, which runs 802.11n in the 2.4 & 5GHz ranges simultaneously, is nothing short of incredible (for a router, that is).

@ispgeek ran some tests, here is the info quoted from the other thread:

So far so good. I maxed out my Netflix connections at 6 and only stopped there because I ran out of accounts to use (had to borrow from everyone in the family as I'm limited to only two streams at once) and it didn't even phase that bugger especially with everything else going on with that connection. I imagine the guys at DD-WRT are working hard to port a version for it as well but honestly the UI isn't all that bad and it's packed with features already. Pretty much anything you can think of is already covered in the stock UI.

Here are my last speed test (off my site) results with it...it just doesn't get much better than this folks...

If you could add a product, feature or make a change...

I've been pondering this thread for some time so here goes...

If you could be CEO for a day and add a product, feature or make a change to the way BHN does things what would it be? Think long and hard about your answer. Be specific and be prepared to defend your decision (in all the right ways of course) because someone might disagree with you.

There are some ground rules though. This thread is not for rants, complaints or lower my bill stuff as there are other threads and forum sections for such things. Everyone is expected to remain civil and respectful and on topic at all times. Any deviation from the above and I will request that the moderator remove your post.

The purpose of this thread is to openly discuss what you feel would be a great addition to BHN products, services or an improvement in some way and also to put you in the position of CEO making those big decisions for just one day. :)

You just never know who's watching and you might have a great idea that makes everyones life just a little bit easier or more enjoyable.

[Internet] Clearwater FL Intermittent service with Netgear Modem

I have the combo modem/router and it seems to be working intermittently. I have called bright house and been escalated once where the tech changed the channel on my router, but I am still having the issue. Brighthouse also says everything is fine on their end.

I have exchanged the router thinking the old one was the cause, but I am still having the issues with the new router. Once I open a browser I am able to browse the Internet just fine. After about 5 minutes or if I open a new tab everything slows to a crawl. I can sit in front of the modem/router and watch the activity light blink while it is working correctly and after 5 minute the light will stop almost as if it resisting itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This thread pretty much describes the same issue I am currently having.

intemittant poor signal quality (Macroblocking)

Hi all, i have a cableCard w/ tuning adapter from brighthouse tampa. For some reasons a specific channel (NickHD 1102) has very bad macroblocking intermittently.

When i look into the diagnostics for my cable card tuner those channels have very low "Signal quality" when the macroblocking is taking place.

Here is the measurement when the channel is working fine:

Modulation Lock	qam256
PCR Lock	locked
Signal Strength	88% (-7.1 dBmV)
Signal Quality	81% (32.4 dB)
Symbol Quality	100%
Streaming Rate	8.844 Mbps

When there is bad macroblocking the "Signal quality" drops down to around 68%. All other readings seem to stay the same.

30 mins ago it was macroblocking very bad, but now the channel is running fine.

Any idea why this is happening.

Thanks.

Porting Phone Number

Called local office today and was told that I cannot port my number from Vonage because it's in an Orlando rate center, and I'm in a Winter Park rate center.

I'm familiar with telephony, rate centers, and the FCC and numbers not being able to be ported across a rate center, but I've always known it to be limited to traditional landline carriers (the LECs).

Are BHN and other cable/DSL carriers classified by the FCC as LECs and landline providers, as opposed to VoIP providers?

[Internet] Brighthouse Turbo Slower then my old DSL in Novi, MI

I am located in Novi, MI. I just switched out to brighthouse and my download speeds are terrible. I have a 20Meg circuit and only get about 500K download. I had DSL Elite service from AT&T and always got 600K. When I run the brighthouse speed internal test that is shows 20Meg.

If I can't fix this I'm going to cancel the service. Also there was an outage on my Node yesterday and I have to fight with someone to get that fixed last night. Not happy at all...

[TV] Non-DVR HD Box - No Guide

Another thread diverted into a discussion on this, but since it was OT I think it got lost in the noise so I'll make a new topic for it.

I recently added ESPN3D service to my account and picked up a new non-DVR HD box since that channel isn't available through the
cablecard on my Tivo. The box is a new Cisco 4742HDC.

ESPN3D works fine (usually), the other 3D channel on 1771 works sometimes, but my primary issue is that the box has no guide data. I've tried several cable outlets with no more success than the first.

Any ideas? I've had the box about a month now and want to get this fixed.

Thanks!
