When are they dropping channels 700-1000 hd channels?

I thought the main point of of moving the channels to 1000+ they were going to drop the one on 700 and up.

The dup channels really bug me. Why do we need 2 of the same HD channels? They said once the hardware software have been updated they would be dropped and for me to get use to the 4 digital channels.

Surely they have updated everyone by now?

[TV] Brighthouse-Tampa TV problems?

Over the past week I've had some strange TV problems and I think it relates to Brighthouse doing work on their lines in the area I'm at in Tampa. I'll be watching a channel and I'll notice the screen start to go fuzzy (like snow), then I'll switch channels and the one adjacent to it looks worse and eventually anywhere from 2 channels to 5 channels in a row are all bad from 2 minutes to almost 30 minutes just out of the blue.

When they go bad it's snowy and horizontal lines flickering with strange shapes in a line but still in a horizontal pattern. Tonight it was channels 27 through 31 from around 5:15pm to 5:25 pm and then it was channels 12 and 13 only from around 9:20pm to 10pm (possibly beyond). It did it again on channel 12 only around 11:30pm. All the other channels are fine, that's why I do not think it's my TV. Any ideas on WTF might be going on?

EDIT: tech was by today and still same problem. I called up the tech tonight and they said it may be a problem with the filter not the lines. They're sanding someone Thursday morning.............the Superbowl clock is ticking.:(

Lightning 40/5 only 40 Mbps on speedtest.tampabay.rr.com

So I ordered and Brighthouse installed the 40/5 lightning service last week. I'm using an SMCD3GN modem in the Bradenton area. When I run the speedtest at speedtest.tampabay.rr.com, I get 39.5 Mbps down and about 4.9 Mbps up... every day, any time of day. While that sounds great, I've tried just about every other speed test available on the internet and I never get above maybe 12 Mbps to 18 Mbps on any other test. Typically they are around 12 Mbps. For example:

speedtest.net: typically around 17 Mbps, all FL servers
speakeasy.net/speedtest (Atlanta): 13.85 Mbps
bandwidthplace.com: 11.8 Mbps
Upload speeds are always in the 4.5 Mbps range so no worries there

In contrast, my friend who has FIOS just a few miles from here gets consistent 19.5 Mbps on every one of the above tests! In general, he's getting better internet speeds on FIOS' 20/5 service than I am on BHN Lightning 40/5.

Why would this be? Does FIOS just have a better network? Better routing? It looks like the 40 Mbps can never be achieved past the local tampabay BHN servers. Sure, I get 40/5 every time from speedtest.tampabay.rr.com but as soon as you go off BHN's local network, you (at least I) never get even 20 Mbps.

Before I got the 40/5, I had "virtual office" business class running 20/2 and when I go to the "real" internet (beyond BHN local Tampa servers), I don't seem to be getting any better speeds than I did with 20/2 on the download side. Looks like 40/5 might be a "ruse". Are we really getting what we are paying for?

Others? What is your experience?

P.S. The service is at least consistent and I'm getting a good solid signal (as demonstrated by my consistent 40/5 tests to the local BHN Tampa speed test). As another aside, it did take me a good three days to finally get that junky SMC modem (router) to work with all my local LAN and wifi equipment. The local stuff was fine but the 802.11 stuff in that modem is junk!

Cisco Scientific Atlanta 8640HDC vs. Samsung SMT-3090

I've been going back and forth with customer service in regards to getting the new Samsung HD-DVR. I recently swapped my box (they told me they had Samsungs at the local office when they didnt) and they gave me the new Cisco 8640HDC box. It seems to be much faster than my old box but I still want the Samsung.

Any thoughts on this? Should I leave well enough alone and keep the box I have or ask for the Samsung?

[Internet] Slow Internet at night

Live in Tampabay area serviced by Brighthouse\RR. I have the 20MB Internet speed. I can get between 19 and 20MB during the day but starting at around 6:30PM my DL speed goes "Down". From 6:30 until about 11PM I see slow speed surfing and checking speeds I see my DL well under 20MB....at times I have seen 6MB. The trend is what concerns me....it is consistent....every weekday night starting at 6:30P....my DL speed goes down. Has anyone else experienced an issue like this? Anyone else gotten a resolution? BH has been monitoring the Node I connect with and its highest capacity has never exceeded 55% ...so they say its not from too many users logged in.

CFL- Where can I put a 1.5 Tb external drive?

Go ahead and think it, but don't say it. Heaven knows, I'm about ready for ANY suggestions tho.

Back when I bought my Black Friday HDTV, I got an external drive to attach to the DVR I was going to get. BHN said that they supported the e-sata port, so I bought the first drive I saw with an e-sata port. Probably not enough research there....

So far, I've had the 8300 HDC and the 8300 HD DVR and the drive just sits there. It's connected to my computer right now, via USB so I know IT works.

BHN freaks out at any mention of an e-sata port, and Western Digital hasn't replied to me. I've been downloading PDFs of the Samsung and Cisco DVRs and am not getting much info on supported external drives. One says to contact "your provider" for a list of supported drives, but BHL doesn't want to hear anything about them.

From my reading, I've gathered that drives larger than 500Gb or 1Tb might not work, maybe an e-sata II cable will do the trick, maybe just abandon the idea and get a DVR with a bigger internal HDD.

Anyone?
