Service Electric Cablevision - Breaking News

My buddy just moved and transfered his service with SECV in Birdsboro, PA.

Now he already had his Motorola 6412 Phase 3 DVR with him, but while the guy was there installing in his new townhouse he upgraded his bedroom to a HD box, which happens to be a PACE box. So far he loves the Pace box.

The Cable guy said by the end of May this year, they plan to be all digital and launch 40 new high definition channels! That's right, 40 HD channels on top of the 30 they already have! If this cable guy is right (hopefully he is, that will put Service Electric up to 70 HD channels! Eat that Comcrap! Never underestimate the little cable operators!

You know the other thing that makes me want to believe the tech was that an article in our local Reading Eagle newspaper stated that Service Electric will be migrating to an ALL DIGITAL service, where every TV will require a set top box. You know how much bandwidth this frees??? Well they have about 77 Analog channels now, and they are a 750 MHz network pushing stuff past that to Ch 120. Talk about the little operator that could!

How can I watch 2 TVs/channels with one cable box at once?

I have Comcast cable, and one cable box. I would like to use it with other TV's to watch different channels simultaneously. Is it possible? I can think of many ways of splitting the signal to different TVs, but from what I can think so far, it'd be the same channel on all TVs.

And... How come you NEED a cable box? What happened to just plugging the coaxial directly into the TV?

Edit: And please do not remind / recommend that I get an additional box from Comcast for 5$ a month. I AM AWARE that Comcast leases additional boxes, but I wouldn't be posting this thread if I planned to lease another one...

Thanks! :)

[Rant] Forced Install?

I must admit that I think it is absurd, Midcontinent Communication forces Cable Modem installation.
Is there really a need? all they have to do on their end is to register the Mac address of the modem correct? must they send a tech out to my house and charge a $35 fee? all I get from them is that it is protocol but the service techs. call it old school and don't understand the reasoning behind it.

Honestly though... is this standard protocol with all Cable Internet Providers? I have my own modem

cable company goofs up

called the cable company, told them I wanted to keep the existing high speed internet, told them to discontinue the cable tv service. They send out a tech to pick up the box. He says he shut off the cable service.

After he leaves I discover that the service is still on and works not through converter, but through the cable ready tvs still.

2 hours after I call the tech, I call customer service. I tell them that the service is still on for cable. They say it shouldn't be because I am no longer being billed for it and the tech says he downgraded the cable tv off. I tell them cable still on. They tell me to call back tomorrow. That maybe over the weekend it will shut off.

Next day. I call them again. Its still on. They say they will send tech department notification of such and the need for another tech to come by and turn it off.

At present, no calls for any techs at the cable company. They aren't acting on it.

I have done my part. I am not going to chase them. I am not getting billed for it. But the question is if I let the cable stay hooked up at this point and watch it, can I get in legal trouble for letting it still filter through the tvs. Even if they indefintely don't turn it off or act on this. Remember. I went out of my way to tell them to shut it off correctly. What are the legalities here. Hard to determine because it goes a little beyond passive cable theft. pjr

20mbps line connecting between 1-4mpbs

For about 3 weeks now my cable modem has been connecting at random (usually very slow) speeds. Usually its anywhere between 2-6 mbps. Sometimes I can reset it and get 19, but its getting more and more rare. Im running Windows Vista Home Premium and not currently behind a router. I thought my router may have been the problem, but its still doing the same thing.

Here is a picture of the diagnostics of my RCA modem - http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9599/diagnosticsk.jpg

Here is my current speed test - http://i.dslr.net/imc/0/1/7/1/73404310.png

Tweak Test - http://www.dslreports.com/tweakr/block:529d8a7?service=cable&speed=20000&os=Vista&via=normal

line quality test was 0% loss and 40.7ms

What to do about this internet service monopoly

I started as IT at a business in October. The internet is controlled by the local ISP.

TO put it bluntly; they suck. The speeds are SLOW and the prices are OUTRAGEOUS. Customer service is awful as well.

We just put an order in for 2Mbps connection (their max) for $99 a month. Thats ridiculous. Furthermore, their monopoly runs about 10 or so square miles.

Upon further investigation, the company is grandfathered in as the ONLY provider allowed in this area.

I have already wrote to my congressman and other ISP's, etc. What more can I do? Antitrust lawsuit?

Southern California mediacom terrible service

On sunday my cable dropped out so I called in Monday morning. I had to call 4 times and the techs on the line could do nothing. tuesday I had a tech come to the house. He replaced splitters and made the service even WORSE than it was when he came. He told me well I dont know what to say, I have to send a line tech. when I asked when that repairman would be here he didnt know. After 3 more calls including one hang up by the "help" line, I traced the "repair" job and found he installed the in cable to an out in the new splitter. after another complaint and not even an "I'm sorry" I switched to DTV. Does mediacom have no idea how terrible their customer service is?
