Terrible speeds in Oklahoma, again.

Same thread, new month. Speeds start at 380kBps in the morning and fall to about 10kBps in the evenings.

Welcome myself back.

Well, I went ahead and got SL internet service back...

I don't know what's going on now, but testing at external speed test sites, even on those not using flash, are showing some really surprising results.

running 10s outbound test (client-to-server [C2S]) . . . . . 737.0kb/s
running 10s inbound test (server-to-client [S2C]) . . . . . . 15.30Mb/s

I've seen it hit 20+ in netmeter while the tests are running.

Maybe my modem pulled the wrong config file, ha ha.

IP Changed, ping has tripled

My local DHCP server died last week. They replaced it and got everything running however my original IP used to start in the 200's. Now it is starting with 75.

The problem is as follows. I am located in Kingwood Texas (30 min from Houston)

A) Speedtest.net said I was in Houston before hand. Now it says I'm in West Virginia.

B) Trace routes are bringing up hops that I have never seen before in my life.

C) I am 3 hours from Dallas. My ping to Dallas servers used to be 16-30ms. Now they are 40-78.

D) Tech support said it shouldn't affect anything, (which it is) and that its my routers fault. When it clearly isn't seeing this issue happened after the outage.

It seems everything is being routed through Tyler Texas which has horrible latency for me where as before it seemed to be using AT&T backbones.

Is it just bad luck that these latency issues happened at the same time? I have a feeling this IP change is making my packets take detours as the routers think I am in a different location.

Any advice? I'm stuck with Suddenlink as they have a monopoly in my area.

Or possibly I had the wrong IP the whole time and was using a different network that actually functioned?

Suddenlink Experiment/test.

Let me introduce myself, I work as a JR network engineer at work, I like to work at home on occasion. I have had Suddenlink about 4 years ago and disconnected it for finical reasons. I then switched to DSL as it was cheaper but i have found that my 3/768 DSL didn't have enough bandwidth to for my needs.

I have re-subscribed back to Suddenlink and got a 6/256 Mb connection, I needed the download to be able to pull data off my servers faster at work.

At work we have an OC-48 connection pushing data all over the world. With my DSL I would get what I subscribe speeds of 3/728 (real world speed was about 2.9/530) to my server.

With Suddenlink if I go to speedtest.net and speed test Washington DC I get.

Which is beyond my expectations (and subscribed speed of 6/256) but when I go to another server say Columbus OH I get.

Now I know what you’re thinking, there must be something wrong with that particular server.
I can prove Suddenlink wrong over and over again that there is something wrong on their side.

Here are the same two servers on my DSL (Verizon BTW).
Washington DC

Columbus OH

Now this through put is not my real issue. My issue is the connection throttling.
I go to my steam account and install a game on DSL for example and the game will download at the full speed however long it takes to download.

Now same thing on my Cable modem, downloading a game full speed on steam the download will run full speed for a little while then the connection will throttle down to sub dial up speeds (were talking 20 or so Kb down) for about 5 minutes then start slowly speeding back up.
Now this behavior may be related to my CM100 Linksys Cable Modem I got from New Egg about two weeks ago (certified refurbished). If that is it then I will RMA it in a heartbeat (while I still can).
This also happens when I remote in to computers in my company, or when I have to download almost 500GB from a server to my home system. (You think why not use a portable hard drive, security protocol does not permit it and I was lucky enough to be allowed to use my home computer.)
I would like to know if this is normal behavior or is there something wrong with my connection, I know there is nothing wrong with the router because I took it to a friend that has Comcast and was getting 20/3 on his cable modem.
The router is also running DD-WRT and is a WRT600N over clocked to 330Mhz.

My home computer is as fallows.
EVGA x58 Classified 759 Motherboard
Intel 920 CPU
Xigmatek 1200 watt Power Supply
12 GB DDR3 Corsair
2x GTX 295's in SLi
Silver Stone TJ10 case
2x Seagate 640GB in RAID 0
1x Seagate 1TB
LG BluRay/HDDVD (BD-RW drive)

(Yes I copied that from my EVGA forum signature)

Also I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with XP mode running for our classic apps.
All connection problems can be reproduced on my test servers in my home, one is Server 2003 R2 Enterprise, The other is Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. My entire home network is Gigabyte.

West Virginia - Fibernet running fiber outside my home

I know its the wrong forum, but I can't find a Fibernet thread anywhere, so my apologies.

For the past two days, I've noticed that Fibernet is running fiber (my area has poles not underground). Last night, they left the spool attached to the line and I snapped a picture of it. http://twitpic.com/ocye7

I've heard that Fibernet is upgrading their network, that they offer Fiber to the Business and yes, I do live in a business district.

However, we live in a row house courtyard with 21 homes...none of which is business... they've run the fiber up and down the back alleys of the courtyard which makes me wonder if this is fiber to the home?

Wishful thinking I know especially since Verizon FIOS wont happen ever now that Frontier is buying them out.

Any thoughts?

What are SL's current speeds?

Just curious...is the below correct?

1/384
8/512
12/768 (select areas)
20/1 (DOCSIS 3)

Or is the 12 Mbps tier 1 Mbps on the upload side?

Also, I've been seeing speed tests that seem to suggest that on the highest-end plans the nodes are wide open on download speed? I'm assuming 12 Mbps gets this treatment in non-D3 markets? Does 20 Mbps have this in DOCSIS 3 areas?

Sudden Link and P2P

Yes, i've read some stuff about this but i'm really bad with computers. Anyways, this game I play (Dungeon Fighter Online) Uses P2P, which really blows either way, but apparently this is where Sudden Link sucks more than anywhere else. A month ago it was fine, but now I can't connect with anyone and there is constant disconnects. Is there a way to fix this without switching my Internet Service Provider? Appreciate any help I could get.

Massive lag spikes while playing World of Warcraft

I've got Suddenlink in Weatherford, OK and for the last 2 weeks whenever I play World of Warcraft I have massive lag spikes and disconnects. My internet browsing seems to be less affected but it still lags a bit too.

With WoW my pings will be in the 200-500 range for a few minutes, then shoot to ~1500 and higher, then eventually I disconnect. Rinse and repeat. I've unplugged and reset the modem and router, I've adjusted some settings with the Tweak Tool and DrTCP which didn't seem to help. I've done several tracerts and speed tests but I can't seem to pinpoint where the problem lies.

I am also experience lag issues when connecting to our guild's Ventrilo server as well. These spikes/disconnects occur at the same time as in WoW.

Line quality test:
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2593991

Dunno what it means, but I noticed I also have a totally different ip number. Went from 24.xx.xx.xx to 72.xx.xx.xxx
