[Verizon] ESN is blacklisted - what can one do?

a friend bought a Verizon LG phone on raiglsist

When he tried to connect it to Verizon they said the ESN (MEID HEX) is on a blacklist [reported lost or stolen...] and can not be connected

Is there anything that can be done with the device?

idea - maybe it can be used on another CDMA network - like Sprint? but it's branded with Verizon logo and I think Verizon doses something else to them...

Thank you...

T-Mobile One-Way Audio Problem

I've had a problem since yesterday with one way audio. When a caller calls me, they hear me but I can't hear them. It's not the cellphone with the problem, because the same happens if I totally shut off the phone and call right into my voicemail. The caller can't be heard. I've tried dialing in myself, and pressing "*" multiple times to try to get into the voicemail system does no good. No voicemail messages are recorded because of the one-way audio, but my announcement is heard.

But there are exceptions to this:

Calling out from my cellphone is OK.
From my POTS line to my cell is one way audio (an 818-349-xxxx number).
From my AT&T cellphone it's two-way. Everything is OK.
I went through some various VOIP options to call in, and it's all one way except for when I dial from my VoicePulse VOIP line, then it's two-way.
I called T-Mobile customer service. They called me back and I could hear them, so that works.

I'm thinking there may be some sort of problem with how certain calls get routed to me. Below is how my number appears in the TNID.org database. It's a number I ported over a year ago from AT&T Callvantage.

Any ideas what is going on?

911 service on cell phones (Verizon/AT&T)

We've been looking at various methods of cutting our expenses and one thing that sprung to mind was ditching our landline and going cell-only. My wife and I each have cell phones (and we have Google Talk) so we could easily do without the home phone line.

The only question in my mind is 911 service. Unfortunately, we've had to call 911 a few times over the past few years when our children had febrile seizures and stopped breathing. I wouldn't want to save $400 a year only to put my children's lives at risk due to poor 911 service.

Does anyone know how good 911 is on Verizon Wireless or AT&T Wireless versus Time Warner Cable's Digital Phone (our current land line)?

Preparing to sell AT&T BB 8310's

I'm going to sell our Blackberry Curve 8310s. I've wiped the devices using the menu under Options->Security Settings...etc. I've pulled the MicroSD cards that were in there.

Questions

1) When I sell this, do I need to notify AT&T? We've already changed our phones a couple of months ago so these BBs haven't been used in 2 months.

2) Are the SIM cards tied to me or the device?

3) Should I sell the devices with the SIM cards in them or should those stay with me?

Thanks!

Blackberry Storm Pros/Cons/Tips & Tricks - Discussion

Hello,

I would like to have an ongoing discussion of the Storm between Storm owners , and those "interested" in the Storm. I would prefer not to have this thread turn into an iPhone vs. Storm, please understand.

Anyone would like to share tips & tricks? By the way, crackberry.com is a MUST bookmark, especially the Storm Forum with 10,000+ messages.... Just about every question has been asked & answered (how to, issues, etc) - excellent resource. And yes, there is a leaked 0.83 OS out.... yes. I'm not touching any OS that is not "official" from Blackberry, but that is my choice.

Let's start our own resource here? ;) :p :D

Storm owners should know this already, but here are few things noobs may not realize:

1. Keyboard/hide/show -- just swipe down to make it disappear (no need to go into the menu to do this), and swipe up (to make it appear)..

2. Icons can be moved around, and even into folders if you feel you have too many taking up icon slots..

3. If you upgrade your OS and any applications or icons disappear, you can get them back immediately by going into options, advanced options, host routing table, hit bb menu button, then register.... re-registering fixes promptly.

4. To get a status bar while playing media or music, just lightly "tap" the screen (I did notice this can be picky sometimes)....heh :p

5. You can change the default browser from the blackberry browser to Internet Explorer or Firefox ; This gives you FULL browser pages, and not Mobile versions if you prefer this. This is done while in the browser, hitting the BB menu button, options, then browser configuration...

6. You can delete several messages at once, easily, just tap the first message, then tap the last message, all messages in between will also be highlighted ......

7. Hopefully everyone knows how to change the wallpaper ... just go into media, pictures, select the one you want, use the BB menu button and choose to use that picture as home screen..

8. As a note, there are TONS of apps out for the Storm (some more games as well, even a couple that use the accelerometer), in an ongoing thread at crackberry.com in the Storm forum..

9. Please go into Options , Screen/Keyboard, and change your hover, tap, sensitivity settings to 100, 100, 6 (high), or whatever your prefer. Too many complaining about lag/delay without even attempting to adjust the standard (default settings) to something more inline with "their" speed/use......Its like PC users leaving the mouse/tap settings at default, instead of adjusting for your individual preference/skill/speed, heh :p

[T-Mobile] unlimited wifi calling now not available?

I'm looking at the Blackberry 9700 on T-Mobile that was released today. It has 3g and wifi, but I'm more interested in the wifi capability. I'm trying to move to cut the home phone cord, so having unlimited calling from my home wifi connection is a huge plus. It will also allow me to get a 750 min plan vs a 1500 minute plan.

My question: is unlimited wifi calling still available with the release of the new plans? The store said "no" but the T-mo website lists unlimited wifi calling on the 9700 specs.

Thanks for any info.

[Verizon] Straight Talk (Trac Phone + Verizon)

I recently switched my cell service from T-Mobile to Straight Talk. In short, because I will be saving about $30 monthly once I pay off the new phone I purchased (three months' time). My activation involved porting a T-Mobile Cell phone number to Straight Talk. Straight Talk is, essentially, Trac Phone, specifically selling time on Verizon's Prepaid network coverage area. ($30/month for 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 30 MB data OR $45/month for Unlimited Voice/Texts + 30 MB data).

I ordered a Motorazr 3 from Wal Mart's site for $99, and had it shipped directly to the store. No glitch.

That evening, I initially activated the phone via the Straight Talk site using the code provided with the cell phone.

The next day around noon, my T-mobile cell phone indicated "Unregistered". I had hoped this meant that I'd soon be able to use my Straight Talk phone (as was suggested would be the case when would occur), but the "*228" code did nothing until late morning the following day after that.

Once the "*228" code indicated success on the phone, its gave me a message to call "*22898". This is apparently Verizon's # to dial for activating Prepaid services. Unfortunately, this number kept telling me it was unable to complete my transaction, for about two hours. At that point, I dialed the Straight Talk customer service line and I got manually walked through the phone registration in about a 10-minute phone call. After that the phone worked fine. The customer service rep indicated that some difficulties were being encountered with the auto-registration process, so they walk through manually anyone who calls with a problem.

As it was, I was without cell service 24-26 hours total.

Afterward, I was able to program the phone/service to work with my "YouMail" service that I had been using with T-Mobile, also. The phone took the voice mail programming update quite easily (as per YouMail's website directions).

The Straight Talk "user account" section of their website is apparently still under construction, but you can check your account balance there.

I believe the coverage being provided is what Verizon indicates is their coverage for all the prepaid plans on their website.
