mobile data in Caribbean

I have an unlocked Android mobile phone that I want to use
in St Lucia (Caribbean)

I have seen a lot of info on calling but very little on
data and SMS while there.

Would really like to find an un-limited data deal.

I expect to use a lot of MB while there and am hoping
to get service under $20 per day.

Any thoughts?

[Verizon] looking for new verizon phone

I am currently using the original Motorola Droid. I am happy with it since I have it rooted and set up how I want it. My wife wants me to upgrade to a newer phone. I am considering it now. However, I want a phone that's as easy to root as my original droid and can be overclocked as well as use the free wireless tethering apps. Also, I am on the old unlimited 3g data plan and want to keep the plan. If I get a new 4g lte phone could I keep my old data plan? Any phone recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

[Sprint]Signal Coverage Issue w/Sprint/T-Mo Reisterstown, MD

A little background...area code 21136 has always been spotty for data coverage for anything but Verizon. Sprint and Verizon have a tower within 1/4 mile of each other. Sprint tower is on a one story office building, Verizon tower is basically in my front yard and is its own building and tower. Wifi in the area also sucks horribly. So I have a feeling the Verizon tower is at fault. I am trying to get Sprint to send this issue to their field techs but I just keep getting the same nonsensical ticket support calls that go nowhere.

4G basically dies as soon as I turn onto the street in front of my neighborhood. I have 4G for a second or two in the house in certain places, but it dies again if I move. 3G is about 300kbit or slower with a 500ms ping time to a speedtest.net server 10 miles away.

How do I address this to fix the area wide issue that no one seems to understand? I am happy to answer any questions to help clarify.

[AT&T] Pantech message ringtone too low

I just got a Pantech Link II (P5000) phone from AT&T. I mostly like the phone. It lacks a few goodies that my previous Motorola phone had but adds a few of its own so the balance is mostly positive. The only issue I have found is that for some reason he text message sound is too low, barely audible if the phone is in my pocket and not audible at all if I am not near it of course. I know it is not a problem with the ringtone sound itself because it is the same I was using in the previous phone and also it sounds loud when used as incoming call ringtone. Any ringtone used for messages will sound at very low volume. When you set the volume in the setup screen it sounds very low even with the volume set to maximum.

Does anyone know of a solution to this?

Any recommendations on screen protectors for HTC (not Zagg)

Anyone have any opinions on screen protectors. This is for an HTC Inspire 4G. I bought a Zagg and it looks terrible IMO, with much grain. Now, I stuck with a $25 sheet of plastic. :(

[Other] MetroPCS Update Capabilities/ Phone

...a friend has it and drops calls all the time :p

I was thinking there might be something similar to Verizon's *228 for updating roaming capabilities, or updating the phone without having to go into one of their locations.

Is there that anyone knows? Google got me mixed answers, from the same *228 to *865# to it "auto does it"

This is just a plain text plan/ no data/ flip phone of some kind (unsure of model)

Thanks in advance

[Sprint] Ever moved? Check those surcharges for state specific f

I just looked at my Sprint bill in detail.
Apparently, when I lived in Kansas I had to pay a $2.99 fee for Kansas State University. I haven't lived in Sprint's home state of KS since Jan 2008 and continue to pay Sprint $2.99. Even though my billing address is listed as Missouri and the site clearly states that my billing address is by default my "use" location for assessing taxes, I am paying KS specific taxes.

I emailed sprint about this and they said someone would get back to me in 7 days time. I let them know that my address was listed correctly, but apparently there is a secret "Sprint eyes only" listing that has our "use" address as the former address.

If you have moved since you initially signed up with Sprint you might want to make sure your secret "use" address is correct or you could be paying state specific taxes. Of course, if it's cheaper in your old state, maybe you don't want to fix this.

[Verizon] Which femtocell to get?

Switched to Verizon Wireless from AT&T Wireless and at home my signal is pure crap. So I was looking at Verizon's femtocell (Network Extender) And they want $250 for it..yea right.

So I looked on eBay and found a 3G compatible one (I guess the newest version of the network extender) and a older model, the question I had was why would I need my carriers 3G when I'm using my wifi connection? Since I would have my home broadband connection to use since well..it would be powering the network extender.

Couldn't I just buy the older model and save a bit more money? Was there any other updates to the 3G compatible model that would make it a better purchase?

I do believe the amount of concurrent callers was increased by a little, but I'm the only one in the household who has Verizon Wireless..so that feature would be useless.

Here's the 3G model

And what I believe is the older model

[Need Info] Question about providing backhaul

Just a question I have after looking at the different carriers coverage maps and what they provide for data speed in my area.

T Mobile has upgraded some towers in my area to support their 42mbps data speed I know this because I saw some news stories about the announcement doing a Google search here's another news story about it: http://thecellphonejunkie.com/2012/01/11/t-mobile-expands-hspa-networks-with-additional-21mbps-and-42mbps-markets/ These same towers I know AT&T runs off of. My question is why don't the other carriers use that backhaul already in place to support LTE? Like Verizon could use it or AT&T, instead it seems like T Mobile is the only one in my area to offer those kind of speeds.

Also looking at T Mobiles coverage map and TMobileTowers.com oddly it seems like they have mostly just upgraded their own towers with the 42mbps backhaul? I assume T Mobile owns these towers being TMobileTowers.com seems like an official page..
