Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate smart phone

I have a question I am thinking about getting this phone.
Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate and from what I found out it is a gsm phone. It does have SIM card that it uses. The operating system is Android 4.0.4. The platform is Android 2.3, Gingerbread.
I would like to know if this phone be able to use apps from Google or any other places?
What would you recommend that around $175.00 if this phone will not work?

[Mobile] CDMA data connectivity question

Hi,

I wasn't sure how to word this in the subject.

Basically what I want to know is how come with CDMA on my new Sprint phone (a Samsung Galaxy S4 running Android 4.2.2) it won't automatically 'jump' to 3G when I'm in an area with 3G and I'm on 1X?

On GSM AT&T, my Galaxy Nexus would automatically switch network technologies (e.g. HSPA+, HSDPA) when a 'higher form' one was available in the area.

Don't get me wrong, I like having stable connectivity, but shouldn't Sprint be 'stepping up' to 3G when it's available - I mean, when 3G isn't available my phone automatically steps down to 1X.

Right now, the only way I can switch back to 3G connectivity in an area with 3G is if I toggle the cellular radio myself (e.g. Airplane Mode).

AT&T dropping Straight Talk due to phone unlocking law?

I was reading a thread XDA developers forum for Straight Talk and Nexus 4 issues ... when I came across this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120957

According to posters, AT&T will no longer permit Straight Talk to sell BYOD SIM cards to run phones on its network. Users are indicating AT&T is getting tougher about limiting network (Internet) access on Straight Talk sims.

The theory is some change in phone unlocking laws, that protects AT&T locked phones. Apparently AT&T locked phones can be run on Straight Talk AT&T sims without being unlocked. It may be AT&T will preserve revenue by using the law and preventing resellers like Straight Talk (Net 10 and others) from reselling service to locked phones. Keeping legally unlocked phones, like a Nexus 4 out may also be a factor.

Visiting the straighttalk website, it appears the only sim one can purchase is for T-Mobile. No other sim only BYOD option is available for GSM.

[AT&T] Help me decide

Looking at either the Nexus 4 (unless google surprise announces and upgrade this week) or an HTC One. I'm with att already for my wife and daughters iphones so I can't change carriers.

Nexus 4
+ Straigh Android
+ Quick updates
+ 300 out the door no contract
+ Quad core - very responsive according to reviews
+/-HSPA+ Only not a big deal here right now but we're supposed to light lte next month
+/- Glass screen, but I always use otterbox cases or similar
-1280 screen res

HTC One
+ Quad Core
+ LTE
+ 1920 screen
+ Radio built in with RDS (I work for a group of radio stations)
+ Upgraded sound
+/- Sense UI?
- 199 with 2yr contract
- Apparently runs hot

I had an HTC phone when they first hit the android street and was not happy with it. In fact I returned it. But I'm sure this is way better. I'm an IT guy who does a lot of email. I currently have a Motorola Droid from work on Verizon. The phone is killing me now, things crash and its slow as can be.

Any + or - I'm missing that will help sway me one way or the other? Thoughts?

Thanks

[T-Mobile] Switching rate plans with T-Mobile Prepaid?

I remember reading a thread I found online about a year on this subject, but couldn't find it now.
I am on the Pay As You Go plan and sometimes want to use the web when I leave my house. If I switch to another plan ($2 Daily UL Talk Text 2G Web) just for that day, can I go back to my Pay As You Go plan and still have the balance I had before (minus $2) and Gold Rewards?

[Need Info] Does a phone without a SIM contact towers?

I bought a cheap AT&T phone for my daughter to use as an entertainment device. We never activated the actual telephone service on the device and the SIM is not installed. She can still make emergency calls, though, (at least the phone's OS states that this is the case) and I wondered if this means that the phone is still contacting towers.

It's a crazy world and if the phone is contacting towers and being "tracked" ( I don't like using that word because I think it makes me seem paranoid) then in an emergency LE should be able to locate the phone, correct? If this is the case, is there anything I should record about the phone's identifiers? Should I write down the IMEI?

[AT&T] Looking at a Phablet

Looking at getting a Phablet to use as an internet device. A 7" tablet is a bit too big for me to carry, measuring more than 7" due to the bezel. Not very pockatble.

A 5.5-6.5" smartphone would be ideal. 720p or better IPS, amoled looks yellow to me so GN2 is out.

I like the BLU 5.7 Quattro HD$380

Found but don't like the price http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_g_pro-5254.php

[Need Info] Need a good MVNO

I was looking around and found this site. Read several (very useful) posts, and figured I'd see if anyone here can lend me a hand.

Got two Nexus 4s. First one ported from Verizon to StraightTalk just fine. Second did not. "Your number is restricted." "We cannot port your number to our service, our system will not allow it." Etc.

Called Verizon, they had no idea what nonsense all that was. Talked with StraightTalk again, and they hung up on us. Called again, asked for a manager, long story short, new number or no StraightTalk, for unknown reasons.

This spells disaster to me. StraightTalk's website looks pretty sketch to me (like it was designed in 2002), and if they can't transfer a number and I can't speak to someone outside of India who can explain the issue to me, I'm thinking I'll get more trouble from them down the road. Did I mention the manager helpfully suggested I drive from Idaho to Texas for help from Walmart employees? Because there certainly isn't a Walmart closer, and I bet the Walmart employees know all about porting phone numbers between carriers.

Looking for another MNVO. Checked out the list on Wikipedia, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with any of these companies; I don't want to get burned again. T-Mobile and AT&T both work in my area.

Looking for data only on your smartphone? This may work for you. Smartphones may qualify as long as you say you are using the device as a tablet or gaming device which is true since smartphones will not get a phone number with this plan.
