RDU Airport with a few lunchtime hours to kill

I'm going to be stuck flying through
Raleigh Durham NC between 10am-2pm Monday,
and wondered if anyone has some suggestions.

I'm thinking of jumping on a triangle transit bus
and going to the Brier Creek Commons shops nearby.
kinda lame, I know, but I'm clueless about this town.

- is there any regional food specialty worth eating
while here? if so, where is the best place to get me some.

- there's a bus that takes you along Hillsboro St.
through the middle of town. is there anything worth
sight seeing to/from the bus besides office buildings?

- I like arts and handy craft type shops and a village
like atmosphere of small cafés and such. is there
anything nearby I should be checking out?

I'm short on cash, so it's gotta be anywhere bus'able;
http://triangletransit.org/uploads/bus_pdfs/bus-system-map.pdf

I just found a local area weekly, so I'll figure something out;

[Serious] Goggle Opens Data Center in South Carolina!

From THE STATE newspaper

Google celebrates SC data center

The Associated Press

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. --
Google is having a party to mark the completion of its new data center near Moncks Corner.

The ribbon cutting is set for Tuesday with state and local leaders to attend.

Google announced last year that it was building a server farm at a 520-acre industrial site - part of a $600 million investment that's creating 200 jobs.

The data center will have dozens of computers that will be part of the company's worldwide network to handle Internet traffic.

The company says the ribbon-cutting ceremonies will also feature live music, food and activities for children.

[Travel] Charleston or Myrtle Beach??

Sorry for the intrusion, but looking for some thoughts/insight...

MrFixitCT is headed to Columbia SC for business for 2 weeks tomorrow...and I had a Frequent Flyer ticket I needed to use before the end of the year, so I fly out on Friday to meet him there for Columbus Day weekend...arrive Friday, fly back on Tuesday, and he returns the following Friday...

We're looking at either heading down to Charleston for the weekend or to Myrtle Beach...

Which would be better for a getaway?

Thanks in advance!
:)

Key West summer sprinkle... not

Doesn't always take a hurricane or TS... just bad timing

Not even particularly torential or high wind either... but very hard for over an hour, and near equinox high tides, an New MOON... much wose than full moon were sun and moon OPPSES vs additive.... I have noticed still quite high the past week since. Street is above knee high water, I quickly realized after getting in the AC with very damp shorts, even holding them up some, but still splashed. (AC extra cold to with all the doors shut to keep the idiot passing big vehicle wakes out.... thoiugh Karma did work for an idiot wake making car they got flooded, and stalled a half block away, probably water inside too once they opend the door..

Kept the bar busy though... a few intrepid (like me, fans of the great musician playing) waded in but very few left for hours until at least side walk was above water. ;)

One of those things hard steady rain (though not torential or wind driven) for 1 hour+ coinciding with a very high (just post equinox and new moon were sun and moon pull together, instead of against like a full moon) tide.

Oh and for and coming to visit its Island Dogs (friendly) Bar... who's motto is come as you are... an interesting dichotomy to their other very up scale Blue Martini Bars, elsewhere in FL and Las Vegas... couldn't pull that off here (others have tried) This is their recreation see what else works bar ;)

Just checking in from Beaumont, TX

Well, traveled on Sunday, 9/14, to Beaumont, TX for hurricane response. Flew into Jackson, MS and then drove down. Took almost 10 hours to get here. Seems that need a response for all the response vehicles that were getting involved in accidents.

Anyway, we are setting up our command post Here at the Ford Center. It is a joint operation for logistical needs in the area between FEMA, TX Forest Service and US Forest Service. Will be here for at least two weeks as it looks now. Will update with some pics as I can later on.
