VPN not working on Clear

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem, or has had the problem and knows of a resolution.

I've just been upgraded to Clear from Clearwire here in Seattle. On Clearwire, I had no problems whatsoever connecting to my VPN (basic PPTP, no other users are having issues connecting). However, once I switched to the new Clear modem, I'm no longer able to connect.

I was connected to VPN through the Clearwire modem, the FedEx guy dropped off the new Clear modem, I made the switch, and I was no longer able to connect to VPN. Getting the following error;

Error 806: a connection between your computer and the VPN server has been established but the VPN connection cannot be completed. The most common cause for this is that there is at least one internet device between your computer and the VPN server is not configured to allow GRE protocol packets Verify that protocol 47 GRE is allowed on all personal firewall devices or routers. if the problem persists, contact your administrator.

Not that it matters, but I have great coverage...5 bars, and consistent 8-9Mb. Going through a Linksys WRT54g router. I've tried both wireless, and connected directly to the modem, both unsuccessfully.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Cascaded routing

I posted this already but maybe I need to reword it.

First, I have the CPEi25150 then I have a Vonage adapter (V-Portal) with my router WRT54GL connected to that. The V-Portal has port forwarding and I can turn off DHCP too.

Everything works fine (wireless WPA2) but I have a "Net cam" (It's a security cam) that connects to my router (wired or wifi WEP) and uses a Dynamic DNS service (viewnetcam.com)

Obviously I have to use the Ethernet connection for the cam but it doesn't work like it used to with Comcast.

It was mentioned that I had too many NATs, so can I just turn off DHCP in the Vonage device along with DHCP in the router?

Also I'd like to flash the router with DD-WRT firmware to have the virtual net option to use the WEP and WPA2 together.

I'm not an expert and my last attempt left my modem kind of useless.
Looking for some knowledge here. Thanks!

Heads up: Cheap Intel WiMAX modem minicard on eBay

Wanted to give everyone a heads up who has a minicard slot on their laptops. They have the Intel Pro Wireless 5350 on eBay for US $28.99 with free shipping that I thought was an incredible deal if you wanted to buy your own mobile WiMAX modem. Intel supports their hardware with superior drivers and software, and this particular card is their top-of-the-line WiFi card that supports Wireless N at 450Mbps and is generally one of the best performers on the market. There are different versions for Dell/HP/IBM, if you have an existing minicard for example Intel 3945ABG or 4965AGN you can upgrade it easily to the 5350. This WiMAX modem should get better reception than the USB dongles because of the 2-3 high performance atennas most laptops have built-in. The drivers and software support Windows 7 flawlessly, unlike the USB dongle from Clear.

[General] Signal Strength/Range: Clear vs Clearwire

I originally posted this as a review... but it might have been better to post it here. Sorry for the repeat posting.

I have been using clearwire for almost exactly one year and have been very happy with the service. I live about five miles from the nearest tower (located in Sedro Woolley, WA) and with the modem on my roof I can reliably get between 1 and 3 bars of signal strength. The DL speeds will vary from 300-2000 kbps while the UL speed is almost always 256 kbps. I have the 1.5 mbit service so I am pretty happy with the results especially since I have no other options for high speed access. The connection is negatively impacted by heavy rain and snow... but for the most part, like 95% of the time, I have a good connection.

So... along comes the wimax upgrade offer from clear. More speed at the same price seems like a good deal to me. So get the new modem, install it in the same position as the existing modem and get zero signal. I wander all over my roof with the modem looking for any sign of a signal and get nothing. Bummer.

Does anyone know how the source signal strength of the wimax compares to that of their existing service?

I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with clear customer service last night. While they were polite and easy to understand they seemed to be quite inexperienced in dealing with connection issues. We kept on going back to changing the location of the modem... to which I responded I have already tried that. The call ended with the tech telling me there wasn't anything he could do for me.

What have other people's experiences been like with this upgrade process?

Soo... I'm still running clearwire with a pretty solid connection although lately the quality seems to be dropping. Perhaps this is their way to force people into making the upgrade.

[Update]
I just got done looking at the clear website and according to their coverage maps they don't even have clear service in my area. Which makes me wonder... why did they offer to send me an upgrade?

[Update 2]
I just talked to the guy at the local clearwire shop and he said that the service was turned on but not officially announced. He also said that the clear wimax had less range than the normal clearwire service... 6.9 miles vs 10 miles. I assume that these ranges are over estimates but that the roughly 30% reduction in range is accurate. From the sounds of it he had been many calls about this issue.
