Hello!

Well, this is my first post, but it seemed like a good place to get help...

I was just curious, anyone else in Northern Indiana have abysmal download speeds? I get a consistant 160-180 kbs here, much less than cable offers...

Thanks for any help!

This is our offical outcry for more speeds and better prices

We the undersigned, hereby make this official statement to the owners, managers, and everyone else working for CenturyLink and the stockholders.

We demand faster internet services, and at lower prices.
We further demand lower prices on all residential services you offer.

We further define "faster internet services" to be no less than 15mbit downstream, and 2mbit upstream.

As for the definition of lower prices, we also leave this to your discretion. Lower means lower, after all.

We would prefer you to beat our explications, with an eye towards the future. Don't disappoint us.

Thank you for your attention to these matters. We look forward to your reply.

Century link outage in NC? Have to order part???????

I live in central NC. I have been plagued with SLOW and INTERMITTENT DSL! I have made 4 phone calls.
1st..sounded like one the operators from "Dell" foreign accent.. Had to repeat myself EVERYTIME. didn't get anywhere..hung up.
2nd. got a normal person. Said would/should be on by 3:30AM 11-21-09
3rd..(at 2:20PM) said should be back on at 3:00PM 11-21-09
4th call...6:00PM 11-21-09.. Was told they had to order a part. Have no idea what?? Would be 3:00 11-23-09 BEFORE repaired.
What kind of part would they have to "order" It looks to me they would have spare parts somewhere.
Why would they keep telling me different times? The last person said they didn't understand why I was told AM and PM this weekend?? I guess this is part RANT..but I hope someone from Century Link could shed a light on the part and outage concerns.

"Welcome to CenturyLink"

So, now that I have gotten my announcement in the mail, about Embarq becoming CenturyLink, I have a few questions.

When is my connection going to get "stronger"? Right now I am stuck with 5/768, and not at all happy about it.

When is my connection going to get cheaper? They talk about it right in my flyer...

Lets see, their words were...".. we work hard to make your connections more accessible, more affordable and less complicated.."

So when can I expect to see the prices of my phone service, and my internet connection fall? Soon maybe?

I seem to remember, recently, the price of my static IP went UP... Maybe they will lower the price? It's always been kind of expensive in the first place.

Thanks for reading.

mod note: please don't move this to rant, I am trying hard for it not to be a rant, and for it to be honest questions, and I am surely looking for honest answers. Thanks

Packet loss to the west coast, ping spikes to the east

Hey, I just recently got Embarq, and I must say it is a vast improvement in stability over Charter here.

Unfortunately, lately it seems I've been having some bad packet loss to anywhere out of the Eastern US (I live in Johnson City, TN). This is most notable during gaming sessions. Here are a couple of recent line quality tests:

Remove all firewall functions from an Embarq 660R ADSL modem

I've encountered lots of disconnects from the modem recently and believe there is a conflict between it and the router. What settings would need to be disabled/changed on this modem so that ALL traffic, including DHCP, is passed to and handled by the router?

XyXEL 660M61 configuration

A friend sent me a ZyXEL 660M61 ADSL 2+ ADSL modem. One can't find any docmentation on how to set this up. Is this by any chance from Embarq-Century, since I have noticed it mentioned on a couple of threads?

The modem lights up, and recognises a DSL signal, but one can not communicate with it via 192.168.1.1, which I understand as the standard web address for ZyXEL networking equipment. How can one configure this 660M61? Thank you in advance for any input.

Question/Advice on something........?

I have CenturyLink 5/768 high speed internet which is connected to my router which is a NetGear RP614 v4. My PC is also connected to the router along with my Xbox 360. I play on xbox LIVE every single day 99.9% of the time whereas I use and am on my PC everyday but only for a few minutes of searching the internet and checking my e-mail, which is like 1%. Anyways, my question/advice is, that when playing on xbox LIVE, I sometimes have trouble connecting to my friends private room when he sends me an invite, so I was wondering if there is any advice you can give me to where if there is any settings I can change in my router, and if I should bridge my modem any. I already changed to MTU on my router from what it was which was at 1500 to now 1400. So I'm wondering if I should Port Forward/Trigger Forward my router settings or what your advice you can give me is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Sincerely,

Odd routing on level3

I saw a topic about this, on the Suddenlink forums, and I have noticed it myself now.

A route, bound for Texas, is going from Raleigh, NC to Washington DC, then to Atlanta GA, then to Texas. Seems like a long trip.

Why wouldn't the route just go from Raleigh, to Atlanta, then Texas?
