Random Intermittent Loss Of Internet Led On Modem

I have been having trouble almost every since the initial installation with random drops of the internet light on the modem. Normally the DSL light stays on but we do loose connectivity. The downstream noise will read -4Db while upstream may read from 11-13 Db. Normally the modem can't pull an IP address from the network during this. This is the second modem we are on currently and we do have a splitter installed since Saturday with integral filter. The tech that cam I know well and trust and his testing shows sync at 3500 which is excellent for our 3,0 meg plan. He did cut out a couple of bridge taps and kill out one heck of a big wasp nest in the terminal on the pole :)
I rewired the house completely less than 2 weeks ago prior to the DSL activation. It's wired with standard 4 conductor station cable but I can wire the DSL drop with CAT5 if it would help..but I doubt it would. We can un plug the modem and it will normally sync back up and be fine for another 8-10 hrs. The resets are not a problem if some one is here and catches the problem but if we're not that leaves a bunch of weather data to resend when its back up. The tech looked at the cable pair from the DSLAM and it was fine. I am at a loss as to where to look next.. I am leaning toward a flaky port in the DSLAM that we are fed from but can't really prove this as a fault...yet

Thanks!

Pls help DSL question.

I currently have 512 DSL with Embarq. I have been asking for over a year to get a faster connection. Each time I call a rep, I get a different reason why I can not get a faster speed. One reason which has popped up a few times is they say I am on a loop and that no spots are available for faster. Now I thought a loop is only for fiber optic and I DO NOT have fiber optic. Now also, when my phone lines were down I had a tech out to repair. He was not a DSL guy, but he did run the test from my home to see how far I am from the main office. I am 10.7K away. Now my understanding is you need to be 18k or less away. I am quite a bit closer than 18K. So does that mean that at the main office no one can order or upgrede DSL? At least 8 times I have called over the past year asking for them to send a DSL tech out here to see if my lines will support a faster speed. Supposedly they put in an esculation ticket and say someone will contact me. I never get a call. The kicker is that each time I call a different person answers and says they do not see where it was requested and put in a request again. Also on embarq.com, where you type in the your phone number to see if you are able to recieve DSL, my number always says that the service is temporaily down. Now if I type in someone elses number, it will tell me if they are able to recieve DSL and the speeds or if it is not avaialbe in there area, but my phone number comes up with temporality down and to try back again later. Well I have been trying for a year now, same internet response. I have a school in front of me. I can see it from my back yard right off the main road. They have the fast DSL connection. Please help me understand the reason why I can not get a faster DSL speed if my specs are: I am 10.k feet away, I am Not on fiber optice, I already have DSL at 512. I do not beleive their response to I am on a loop is the correct reason. I think maybe it is a matter of someone upgrading the system with my phone number. Plus, why can't I get a DSL tech out to my home to see if my lines can recieve a faster DSL. Pls help, I am trying to understand. I beleive that my specs show that I really should get a faster DSL sped. I really need faster than my current 512 for business purposes. Plus my sons lags when he is playing on line games. Not to mention it is aggrivating on line to wait so lone for pages to open and for file down loads. Thanks and looking forward to anyones help.

Embarq DSL service going downhill???

I have been having problems more and more lately with my Embarq DSL. For the most part is seems to have gone downhill ever since they dropped Earthlink. I am not saying I never had a problem before that, but the problems seems to have intensified exponentially as of late, gradually from about 6 months ago to more recently.

I am in Sussex County, NW New Jersey.

To give some idea:

Constant (random) slowdowns. Modem restarts (by itself?), sometimes every couple of minutes, or I can go a day or two before I see a problem... in fact, my connection dropped four seperate times while I was trying to create this topic just to post in this forum. Sometimes I manually restart the modem to try to correct the connection problem and I still have no luck. I have gotten a new modem from Embarq (the EQ-660R ASDL) and I am still having these problems.

Now, I must add, these problems are not just limited to my household. I have noticed this more and more at my place of business where I work as well, and several employees who work out of there have come to me lately also mentioning problems they are having with their DSL at home (since I was the one who recommended Sprint/Earthlink before they became Embarq) These are all in the Sussex County area of NJ.

What I am asking at this point, is this a trend? Are things going downhill with Embarq's DSL in this area? Is this happening to other people as well? I remember when Embarq was dropping Earthlink, I could get a live person on the phone in approximately 5 minutes. Now to actually speak to someone, it is at least 30 minutes and the person I get seems to know even less than me, and since the problems are always intermittent, they tell me things are fine and to call back when the line isn't working (which would be the case if I wasn't ON HOLD for so darn long :uhh: )

Well, thanks for listening, and if others are having problems in my area as well, it would be nice to know.

Some light at the end of the tunnel...I hope!

Well after 10+ years of ISDN service at about $100@month. And being promised DSL since 1998 from the then SPRINT DSL gurus, and after a scheduled installation a couple years ago, which was supposedly trashed due to the SPRINT/NEXTEL/EMBARQ merger/split. Followed by a long process of gathering signatures for a Bona-Fide Request petition, which was submitted last July. MAYBE, just MAYBE, I'm being told the equipment is now installed and awaiting "BROADBAND TESTING" and that takes perhaps two or three weeks. After all that I might be able to get 1.5 or 3.0mb DSL service. :D

Ironically enough I get a call from my ISDN ISP that says my local access number which apparently is provided to my ISP (DEJAZZD) by QUEST, is being terminated. When exactly they do not know, but soon. DEJAZZD claims many dial-up numbers are being pulled by the large providers. Who knows??? I just hope it stays active till the DSL service is turned on.

So all that being said, I was hoping that the resident EMBARQ DSL gurus might be able to help me make certain my activation and switch over is optimum. I have a home network set up with a few computers on it, a WAP and an XBOX. I'm assuming I can just plug the Ethernet from the DSL router into my network switch and away we go???

Any suggestions on the activation, pricing, do and don't etc would be greatly appreciated. :D

Need Help Getting FastPath Re-Enabled!!

As many here know a few months back an Embarq Tech (Mike.M@Embarq I Believe) finally got FastPath enabled on my DSL Line. The Graphs I posted showed that FastPath cut my Latency in Half.

Well, we had some Thunderstorms two nights ago and our DSLAM went down. Embarq Customer Support said they were going to have to reset everyones line in the DSLAM. Well, they did and just like Mike.M@Embarq had told me, if my line was reset that it would disable FastPath.

Now I need to get FastPath Re-Enabled, yet Mike no longer works this Forum as an Embarq Tech and I need a contact who will Re-Enable FastPath as the online Embarq Chat is useless.

Can an Embarq Tech that works these forums post their contact information and help me....

Thank You,

Is Embarq Expanding In PA?

:)I live in rural PA, Bedford County, and of late (past month) I have noticed that there is work going on the Power/Telephone lines. They are running these rather large heavy cables along the Telephone lines. From all I can tell is many contractors seem to be working on it on a 7 day week schedule. I have tried finding out more info on whose behind the construction but I haven't found any info. I had heard Comcast is expanding to cover all of PA and I got a letter from Embarq saying that we'd have (our area) dsl service by Feb. 28th 2010. (yes I am holding my breath) lol.
Anyone have any info on this expansion?
Thanks

Need to purchase DSL modems, would like recommendations

We run a business on several separate Embarq DSL circuits. They gave us these Motorola 660 modems, but apparently our working environment is too harsh and these things fail pretty regularly. Embarq will not ship overnight replacements and we cannot afford the downtime.

They will not sell us spares and I am having minimal luck finding them online, other than ebay.

Any help with possible 3rd party devices would be greatly appreciated.
