I would really appreciate some help on this. I have the 50/10 package and the new modem. I have had 3 techs here and they all get 60+ down. I have 3 desktops and 1 laptop. The desktops all have windows xp and the laptop had windows 7. I have AVG on 2 and Avast on 2. I have roboform on all of them. The tech plugs his laptop using the same cat5e to my modem and gets 60+ and then we plug into my laptop 1 get just 15+-. No special programs really. I can take my laptop to work and get 82 down. We have tried in safe mode with networking and same speed. My nic cards are all updated and are all on default. I have tried shaperprobe twice and here is what i got. Please , any ideas?????

[Wi-Fi] Putting an Arris TG862 into Wireless N Mode

Hello Everyone:
I am installing a Netgear WNDA3100 wireless N usb Adapter on my notebook. The adpter is reporting back that the TG862 is in Wireless G Mode. I cannot find anything in the wireless setup on the gateway that even addresses changing the wireless mode on the gateway. Is it something that Comcast Tech Support has to do? I called their Tech Support and I was told that I have to pay to get that info. Anyone know how to put the gateway into wireless n mode. Is it behind the password of the day protected advanced settings?

Thanks,

Marc

[IPv6] What is the wan addr I would plug-in to get Comcast IPV6

I have a Trendnet AC1750 that supports IPV6. But there are no DHCP options for IPV6. It wants an IPV6 addr to be entered for the Wan interface.

Here is what that looks like:
[att=1]
What is the wan addr I would plug-in there to get Comcast IPV6?

I used this because of something I saw in a dslreports thread on Comcast IPV6:
2001:558:6016:19::/128

And it looks like it worked as shown here, but no IPV6 is working.
[att=2]

P.S.>> I asked this in Comcast Direct, but was totally ignored for 5 days.

IN case anyone is interested...while I was going through a bunch of troubleshooting for my cable modem, a local guy mentioned that they were testing the 305 in our area right now.

The guy didn't know enough to say whether this was going to be a fiber setup like the other areas of the country or now.

Outage in Morton Grove, IL

About 1:00 PM CDT I get a email that my cable modem is down (I run a monitor on it). Still down with the modem being a SB6120 and an undocumented LED sequence:
Green
Flashing Blue
Off
Off
Mostly solid Blue but does flash occasionally.
The last message in the log is something like "Modem Reboot due to T4 Timeout" or something similar.
I tried the reboot, reset defaults and no joy.
The 1-800-COMCAST says there is a problem in my area and my account on www.comcast.com says it affects TV and HSI.
I am curious if this is limited to Morton Grove or are others in the Chicagoland area suffering a HSI and TV outage today.
Tnx,
J

[Speed] Littleton, CO - Slow after upgrade

Looks like I had a better situation before the change. Had a tech out yesterday who said that everything on my end is great and that I should only expect 18Mbps and that my 21Mbps was great. Page loads are slow at best and I have 3 pages of eMail retrieval errors late this afternoon. I'll be checking to see if anyone was dinking with my service during that period.

My speed tests are 18-22Mbps where I had up to 36Mbps. So I guess I have the Performance/Preferred (my tier) for my area which is 18Mbps and whatever I get over that is cotton candy. My neighbors say they have the lowest level service and it's 30Mbps. They're on the pole right in front of me. So . . .

All I want is a clean stable line that will outweigh speed. Still confused . . .

Weird speed issues to work VPN

I've been having this issue for several months now and I'm starting to lose hope. Here's the setup:

I have the Extreme 105 package. My work has an Ookla based line quality testing tool behind the firewall. During the day/early afternoon, my download speed to work is in the 50's (mbps). As the day progresses, mostly starting around 6-7pm, my speed gradually decreases to less than 6mbps. During this time, speedtest.net shows download speed of 40-50mbps, whereas speedtest.comcast.net hitting the Pittsburgh server shows 110mbps.

So this makes it sound like an issue at work. BUT, when I have my coworkers do a speedtest to our work (when I'm getting 6mbps), they are _ALL_ getting speeds in the 40's. Some of them are 400 miles away from our work server, whereas I'm about 10.

Any thoughts?

Channel bonding goes on then off?

Over the past couple of days I've seen channel bonding working and then not working. Below are two caps from the last 24 hrs, note that the first one shows 3 channels and the second one shows just one. The lights on the modem also indicate the changing conditions.

Zoom 5341J with 50/10 Blast service.

[att=1]

[att=2]

Is this on then off then on behavior related to a hardware or signal condition at my end, or is it simply Comcast adjusting and re-adjusting things at their end?

I haven't noticed any sort of performance related issues with the HSI service so I'm not that concerned about it but it would be nice to know why it is doing what it is doing.

Self-install: porting without disconnection, multiple jacks?

I've been finding conflicting information about two aspects of a triple-play self-install, and I'd love to get something definitive.

1) Let's say you told Comcast that you wanted your local telco number ported; that happened; the self-install kit arrived. At that point, Comcast says you're good to go, you can proceed with the self-install.

A couple posts here and there though say that it's not good enough, that the telephone line has to be physically unplugged on the pole or at the telco box at the house or apartment. I've talked to both the telco and Comcast, and they don't seem to know what I'm talking about.

2) Regarding wanting to use a handful of existing telephone wall jacks in the home, many say that it's easy: simply plug the EMTA into one of them and they all become live. At least the one person at Comcast that I spoke with agrees.

Some posts, however, indicate that's not true. In fact, you need to have Comcast come out and do something (I'm not sure what) to "activate" all the jacks, pretty much defeating the purpose of a self-install.

Downstream power level drops as temp increases

Just moved into this apartment a couple of months ago. I've been periodically checking my modem power levels and they are usually pretty darn good. My downstream power levels on all channels have usually all been around -2 to +2db's. all within one or two dbs of each other. Usually in temps around 60 or lower. Well it's finaly started warming up around here where I'm at after a unusually cool spring. It hit 75 here today and the picture shows my downstream power levels this afternoon. HUGE swing in attenuation with some channels getting awfully close to that suboptimal -8db. I'm pretty sure i know why. This apartment I'm in is old as hell. So old it's on the historic registry which mean very little can be done as far as modifying. So due to that they have coax cable strung all over outside of the building going to the individual apartments. So yeah, 50 feet of black coax cable nailed to the side of a brick building is going to get a little warm. This really concerns me because its going to get quite a bit warmer here than 75 degrees soon. In fact I think it's going to be close to 90 here tomorrow. How concerned should I be with this? Has anybody ever had problems with this and how do they actually deal with a situation like this? Obviosuly the ISP cant do anything about the heat or the cabling. If it became a problem whats the fix? Thanks!
