Microsoft's Xbox 360 failure rate was 68%

This isn't to start a console war here. And I'm not bashing the system or any of it's followers. It's just an interesting read about MS's problem with the RRD.
http://gamer.blorge.com/2008/09/06/in-depth-expos-reveals-microsofts-xbox-360-failure-rate-was-68/

A little from the link:
".....The dreaded high failure rate issue with the Xbox 360, otherwise known as the Red Ring of Death, has received some in-depth coverage. We are talking about some serious coverage here with insider interviews with the original engineers that worked on the Xbox 360 all the way up to the high ranks of Microsoft.

Geoff Keighley of Gametrailers and host of GT TV, said in an interview with Jace Hall that there is a definite lack of investigative journalism especially with the high failure rate of the Xbox 360. Keighley also says that the Red Ring of Death with the Xbox 360 was never properly reported.

N’Gai Croal of Newsweek in the same interview added if the exact same issue happened to the iPod and there was a 30% failure rate then everyone would already know in detail why that happened. Jace Hall retorts we (the game industry) are just good at covering things up, which isn’t too far from the truth."

Some interesting reading in the pdf file too.

PS3 and XBox 360 on lan

My question, I am about to purchase a PS3. Some of my friends have an XBox 360. Since you can play some games cross platform via internet can the same also take place on a lan?

For example; Call of Duty 4.
I have PS3, my friends have XBox 360. We want to play the game between the two systems via lan. Is this possible?

[360] My second RROD on my Elite.....

Back in April I had thhe RROD on my 4 month old Xbox 360 Elite. It took forever to get it fixed, but MS sent another.

Just turned it on, almost exactly 4 months later and what do you know, another RROD. F*cking ridiculous. I am going to try the towel trick and then call.

F*cking annoying as hell.

[ps3] PS3 Wireless problems?

I've connected my PS3 to the net by wireless. When connected by wireless, my downloads are pathetically slow. 1.5Mbits or less and nowhere near by 8.88 plus Powerboost that my connection is capable. But when I put a Cat 5 cable into it, I get full speeds.

How do I setup the wireless on the PS3 to get the full speed my connection is capable of?

Help for Westell 6100 + Dlink dir 655 + PS3

Iam having alot of trouble setting up Westell 6100 + Dlink dir 655 + PS3. I was given ports to open up and was informed that I needed to open them on both the router as well as through my ISP.

I called Dlink and they walked me through port forwarding.

Verizon on the other hand was the total opposite. They told me that I could only do this via my router and the modem had no such options. I told the "tech person" that i was staring at the screen which I stated something to the affect of port forewarding and the "tech person" said there are no such optionson the modem and did everything but hang up on me.

I know there is asite that helps with port forewarding but I don beleive there is any info for the PS3.

I just started reading about port triggering. Would that be a better route to go? It seems like the same thing.

Lastly, I noticed that port forewarding involves a specefic IP address. I also notice that whenever i log into my PS3 that it gives a random address. So even if I port port foreward that means it will only work when the IP addresses match-up?

My overall goal is to get the best expierence possible to play online with PS3 and properly and securely set up my router.

[360] What resolution for xbox 360?

Hi I recently bought at xbox 360 and had connected to a new 32" Sony Bravia 720p hdtv. I'm using vga instead of components, since it looks a bit nicer. My tv's instruction manual says the resolution of the tv is 1366 x 768. On the 360, I have a lot of choices, including:

1280 x 720
1360 x 768
1920 x 1080

I figured 1280 x 720 is 720p, but when i choose this, i get 4 black borders, so it doesn't look so nice. 1360 x 768 doesn't even work, I just get a black screen, which is surprising because it is very close to my tv's native resolution, and it works fine if I connect it to a 22" widescreen computer monitor (1680 x 1050 native). Now 1920 x 1080 works perfectly on the hdtv. The picture fills up the entire screen and there's no borders. DVD movies look great and games look great as well. But it makes no sense because my tv is not capable of 1080p and vga can't transmit interlaced signals. So what resolution should I use and would I be hurting my tv by using 1920 x 1080? Thanks.

[xbox] Xbox 360 Ethernet cable

Hello all,

I'm sure this is a simple question:

I will be running CAT5E from my WRT54G to my son's Xbox 360 so he can play live. I'm assuming that I do not need a crossover cable. Is that correct?

Thanks!
