| | Anon | Response from Big Net re: Intro Price Only We're very clear both on our price listing here on DSLReports.com and on our Web page at www.bignet.net that our $29.95 residential introductory price and our $79.95 business introductory price last for three months and go up to $49.95 and $99.95 respectively in the fourth month. If you've seen some place that this is not made clear, I would appreciate knowing about it so we can have it fixed.

| Lack of service
Their service is very unreliable and customer service poor and the people extremely unresponsive with very little knowledge.
When I got the service (768/384) I was told I would get a static address, but when it got installed, it changed to DHCP.
Half the time their DHCP server is down, and I have repeatedly complained that there's something wrong with my service. Their stock reply is turn off the modem and then turn it back on after 2-3 minutes. They kept saying that it was my computer and finally after weeks of insistence, they got Covad involved and found that the line was bad and got it replaced. Now again after a few days of working reasonably well, it has gone really bad. Their reply as usual is turn off the bridge and turn it back on after a few minutes.
Since I committed the mistake of signing a year long contract, I am stuck with them, otherwise I would have cancelled my service in a heartbeat.
Now they changed all 768 to 1.5 Mbps, but I am stuck with a bridge that can only go as fast as 1.1 Mbps, though that's the least of my problems. I only want my connection to work reliably and not having to turn off and on the bridge every few hours.

| Not that thrilled with BigNet
Found COVAD offered IDSL service for a work at home staff person so I ordered from BigNet (no particular reason) since comments appeared to be just as good/bad as most of the other ISP's out there.
Service was installed within promised time frame for one of the people. However not happy with the performance, traceroute shows approx 240ms to 270ms between last hop in their network and my user when nothing is happening on the line. I also see periors of 45 to 60 seconds where we loose connectivity (aka pings time out). Tried to get BigNet to look into this since latency used to be in the 140ms to 160ms range when it was first installed but they refuse to take a problem ticket on it.
Had another person that was told they qualified but then LEC claimed facilities problem and they couldn't install. Now he's been waiting 3 weeks for his credit card to be refunded the up front $300 charge, they keep promising to refund but haven't seen it yet.
Based on experience so far no more business from me for BigNet

| Anon | What's up with their QOS?
Kind of funny how we see there are problems and when talking to support, they say there is a problem, but yet those problems never make it to the service announcement page.
The service has been down at least 30m to an hour every couple of days on days that there are not scheduled down times. I don't understand this. I have waited for an hour on hold to talk to a support person, but noone ever answered. I have finally given up fighting with their incompetence and have started going direct to Covad. Maybe after enough calls, Covad will get BigNets service levels a bit higher since Covad has somewhat high standards of its own that it does meet.

| Anon | just signed up
Well, I just signed up with Big net based on a referal by a Covad installer. I was made clear on the pricing by a phone sales women. She also promised to keep my contract by her desk to make sure that we got our installation as soon as possible. Now maybe she has done that or maybe she hasn't. I will give her the benifit of believing her. My only concern is the service that some of you have complained of. Has any of your problems been solved? Or does anybody have any good coments? I have read through alot of companies complaints and Big net seems to be one of the better ones. I was worried about signing up so soon to DSL service in general, because there is alot of bugs to be worked out of all aspects of the DSL trade. So here's to crossing my fingers and toes, that I have made the right decission! LOL! I will post at each phase of the process in hopes of providing everyone with the good, the bad and the ugly of Big net DSL.

| Re: just signed up
I hope you have better luck than me. I've been waiting almost two full months now (order 6/2) to get my IDSL installed. I finally gave up on getting any info from BigNet: they don't return emails or phone calls. I go direct to Covad now. They at least answer the phone, but they still can't tell me when my loop is going to be installed, much less when (if?) I'll ever actually get service.
|
| | | Anon | Re: just signed up I just got my IDSL switched on by Covad - I'm not sure what local telco you're under, but USWest was painfully slow in installing the loop. They cancelled their install date three times! Fortunately, after the telco was done, Covad was on the spot in 5 days, and I'm a happy surfer! So, your loop delivery problems are most likely due to your local telco - when I called Bignet regarding the slow delivery, the customer service tech immediately said, "Ameritech. Nope? Pac Bell. Nope? Where you from?" "UsWest." "Yep, it's your local telco." I ordered DSl on 6/2 also, btw got switched on on Aug 1. | |
|
| | Anon | Well here is my next up-date. It is 8/17 today. I have recieved several updates from Bignet keeping me informed on the local telephone co. delivery dates. First date was Sept. 3. Then a couple of days later they sent another email and had move the date foward (gasp!!)to Aug. 21.Today, when I came home from lunch, Ameritech was ouside on the pole setting up their part.( I almost fainted!) They said tomorrow they had to go underground by my house and do something and then they would be finished. My friend down the street is in shock. He went with another co. and just finially got up and running 6 months after his first payment. Now I know I have a ways to go yet, but so far so good......stay tuned. | |
|
| | Anon | Well I am the one that has been trying to give a good account of how my service is going from calling in the order to actual use. After being so excited with Ameritech comming out ahead of the date I was given, we have hit a problem... We called BigNet to see when the next step of the installation would take place. BigNet gave us COVADS phone # to call. Called COVADS they tell us that Ameritech was having a problems with the line. The man we talked to didn't have the info on what the problem was, so he was forwarding a inquiry to another dept. to contact us with the details. So we'll see...rogermel69@aol.com | |

| Anon | BigNet got $695, I've got nothing!
On 5-18-00 BigNet was paid $695 for 12 months of 144 IDSL service. It is now 8-2-00, and I have not received one minute of any kind of service. The return on my "investment" is not very good!!!

| Anon | GOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooODDODODODODO
These guys were nice. I called once to find out if service was available in my state. Both this website and they told me that it was. I live in OHIO. So add Ohio to the list. The service rep. knew what she was talking about, I didnt get her name because that is not really relevant. She explained everything I needed to know, and now I am signing up.

| BigNet = BigSuck
I order my bignet 1.5/384 around august 15th, they arranged the line install twice, my line has failed both times and now refuse to return my phone calls. They also have my $800 I paid for a years worth of service. They have a nice sales pitch but have horrible fallow up. Dont go with BIGnet. Big Net is horrible bottom line. Find another provider before you go with bignet.

ok, I been on the Bignet Bandwagon for over a year now. And i must say when it's up and running it is great. My install went as planned with ameritech(local phone co) be the only delay. I am sooo displeased with their service, it's up 70% of the time (at best) and this is on my 384/384 sdsl. It's back up (as of yesterday after being down for only a month. after 16 phone calls, and only one call back (when i went above EVERYONE's head and asked for THE manager's manager) turns out my trouble ticket was closed, without being worked on, the covad trouble ticket was never entered, blah blah blah.... the funny thing, is when i call their tech support, a few of em know me by name, and have gotten comfortable enough to inform me that they use cable modem, and i should too. go figure.

| ISDL is better than dialup
BigNet has been the biggest thing to get into my house since a tv. BigNet worked hard for me in getting my connection going and hooking it up fast with covad. My only down fall, ameriwreck (ameritech). If they werent in the picture I think a BigNet tech would have hand delivered fiber to my house. AWESOME JOB AWESOME Company on getting me hooked up!
