Hey guys...
This is the 1st post in the digizip forum! hehehehe
Anyways, since we discovered this ISP is a WC reseller, does anyone know if they are a full reseller, IE just provide the Worldcom DSL, both ATM and IP like cyberonic and britsys? Or do they just get the ATM product from Worldcom, and have thier own IP network POP's like Speakeasy.
Anyone know? I assume its the former.

| | | Did any former D TV DSL customer sign up with D-zip? I'm seriously considering it since my efforts to extract information from si-bear-on-ic has been met with either 1)a busy signal, 2)Frank --for hours (seriously, I heard that best-of disc wrap the other night!) 3)a frantic tech who mistakes me for the guy he was just talking to, calls me sir, and refers to my modem lights
(what's up with red-flagging of company names?)
|
| | | | Re: First Digizip forum post!!!! :-D I'm thinking about going with these guys for my two homes. However, the 1 year contract is really a detering factor. I know I'll keep DSL over a year, I had DTV DSL(Telocity) over 3 years, but if times get tough and I'm not making money I'd like to know that I can cancel anytime w/o a 300 fee. | |
|
| | kathan join:2002-12-27 Lake Zurich, IL | I signed up with digizip. I talked to Steve Krocker (steve@digizip.com). Very professional and he answers emails right away. | |

thanks | |
|
| | | | kathan join:2002-12-27 Lake Zurich, IL | Re: First Digizip forum post!!!! :-D No, I gladly took the one year contract. I figured that if I payed Cyberonic $99 and they shut down, I'm out $99. But if Digizip shuts down I lose no money.
Now, poor service is a whole other issue. I've already received that from Cyberonic so why should I pay for it?!:D
I'm giving Digizip the same chance that I gave Cyberonic. So far they have done quite well.
|
| | | | | | Digizip I also took the 1 year contract. Yes, indeed Cyberonic support is not good. I had been awaiting for them to call me since December. Digizip on the other hand took the order and processed it and activated less then 1 week. I seem to have some problem with my phone line. For some reason do not get the sync light.
But Worldcom has activated the service and I have received the DSL routher 5 IP address and once I figure out the line, it should be all running.
Keep you guys posted. | |
|
| | | I emailed these guys this morning to see if there still offering a deal for DirecTV DSL Refugees. I mentioned that I went to there site and didn't get alot of info on what is included in there residential DSL package and could they email me some info. So far all I have received back was a conformation that they do service my area (Brookfield/Lagrange). Nothing more was mentioned in the reply. Very Impersonal. Anyway this is all I know so far. Has anyone else ordered service here yet and/or have any info about what is included in there package? | |
|
| | | I emailed them today to ask about service, and got a response pretty much immediately. According to the email, the worldc0m service comes with a static IP so you can host a domain. It allows you to do mail delivery from your own Mail Transfer Agent (ie. send-mail) to theirs, and they have a news server that you can use that allows subscribers to post on it.
I like all this, the only problem is that I already signed with cy-bubonic, and don't know what I need to do to cancel that order and sign with these guys.
|
| | | Curiously, I received another response email from a different person at d-zip who said that you get 5 static IPs, use of their mail server as server to server, and "no news groups"
So, which one is it?
Anyone from D-zip on this forum?
|
| | | From what little I've read on dslreports, I'm cautiously optimistic about Digizip. I'd like to hear more from Digizip subscribers, especially DTV refugees. There are two recent reviews from new customers posted in January, 2003. There was only one review in all of 2002 and the one prior to that was October, 2001. Being a New York company, was Digizip affected by 9/11 and is now making a comeback?
In any case, per the last Digizip review,a month-to-month subscription is available @ $49/mo for up to 1500/768 speeds and a static IP. So, if Digizip is the new Cyberonic, maybe we DTV holdouts should switch to Digizip now before they're flooded as Cyberonic is now?
Comments? | |
|
| | | I have ordered my service from Digizip January 20th. I would have been up and running but due to my existing DSL on the line delayed a bit, but that was my fault anyway. So far everything is going very smoothly. I have received the router and just waiting for the activation.
They seem to offer the same service as Cyberonic. My experience with Cyberonic was not good specially some of there technical staffs really don't know what is going on. Cyberonic sales told me I cannot get dsl to my house because my line is on a fiber network, I know this was bull because I had existing dsl from another provider. Digizip on the other really knows about the dsl service and the requirements.
My order is still pending and once everything is up and running, I will post the updates on them.
I am able to get to the support team fairly quickly. So far they seem very positive.

| | | I contacted Digizip last week and signed up for their WorldCom ADSL 1500/768. They provide a Cisco 768 gateway/router free of charge. You can buy an Efficient Networks 5861 from them for $299.00 (tax included, no shipping cost), if you want to own it. Either way, they supply the admin password for the router so that you can configure it yourself.
Here are the features as per my order (YMMV):
$49.00/month, no activation fee, month to month, can cancel anytime, no cancellation fee.
5 Static IPs
5 e-mail boxes, 20MB/mailbox, 10MB maximum attachment size
Servers OK, NO BLOCKED PORTS.
They answer their phone. I spoke with a sales rep and a tech support specialist who both were businesslike, knowledgeable, and helpful. They offer full range of Internet/communications services.
Gave me an order tracking number at sign-up. I called WorldCom and verified my modem has been shipped.
|
| | | | Re: Signed-up myself
Did you call the office in New York? Who did you talk too. I'm considering this service too. Sounds like a great deal. I had heard before that there was a one year contract involved.
Out of curiosity. What would be the advantage to getting the 5861 modem over the 768? Just curious if there is a connection quality or speed diffrence.
|
| | | | ? Ross,
Sounds like you got a good deal. I talked to and emailed Steve at Digizip, and month-to-month service was available only if I purchased the router (which was a Cisco 678). I'm wondering, did you buy a router from Digizip?
Regards. | |
|
| | | kathan join:2002-12-27 Lake Zurich, IL | Re: ? I have seen Cisco 678 "Buy It Now" auctions on ebay for $99. | |
|
| | | | | The Cisco 768 modem/router is offered free of charge. If you want an Efficient Networks 5861 modem/router, it is $299.00, including tax and shipping. Suspiciously close to their $300.00 early cancellation fee on a one year contract. However, I was never told I had to sign a one year agreement to get the Cisco and $49.00 month to month. I was told that there was no activation, installation or cancellation fee. I was told that I would receive the admin passwords for whichever modem regardless.
The issue is clouded somewhat because I did buy the 5861. Both because I wanted to own it, and because it sells retail between $310-$378, plus tax and shipping. I was not forced to buy it, but I could only get the Cisco 768 otherwise. They give you the Cisco, yours to keep when you leave.
Hope this helps! | |

I am surprised that I got my DSL modem that quick. The best is their staff are really nice and know about DSL. On the other hand, I am still waiting for the DSL line hooked up by Worldcom since I am switiching from Cox to Pacbell and somehow they were confused about my new line with Pacbell, so I am waiting for the activation. I am hoping the 1536/768 connection rocks when it comes!!! In conclusion, good service but don't know if the connection is good. Recommended

| | | | | | | | Re: I break with thee... Kathan, Gaaa! Isn't that just par for the course... can't get a connection going to save their @ss, but have no problem taking your money for service not rendered!
I decided to wait and see what tomorrow brings (literally) because they said that the line tests will be done tomorrow, and if that doesn't happen, then I'll have to talk to them.
Cybermoronic does have a termination fee in their contract along with the spelling or grammar mistakes, but it seems to indicate that it would apply after the service is connected, but doesn't actually say that.
Maybe there should be some auto-termination language in these agreements. Something like, "If Service-provider fails to demonstrate that the agreed-upon network service has been delivered and is operational to at least half the stated bandwidth by 3 calendar weeks from the date of this document, this agreement shall automatically terminate at midnight of the following calendar day". Maybe we should all just start writing this in.

| Kathan, I talked to them (cyberonic) today, and they said that my line should be up... even without a modem from them. I found out that they were out of modems for a while. Hence the stall tactics, and the delay in getting my service up.
My X2 DTV modem doesn't get sync on the line, and they said it was because worldcom service hasn't been enabled on it. Do you know if this is BS or not? [text was edited by author 2003-02-14 01:17:18]

| | Digizip in Denver.... Anyone?
hey there:
considering digizip in central Denver as well as cyberonic and speakeasy. Wondered if there were any subscribers in my area, either Denver or colorado, who would share their story with a novice. Any advice, tips or suggestions would be welcomed.
At present, 4225 ft from CO with Qwest as telco. I subscribe to MSN Broadband powered by Qwest - DSL deluxe at $49/mo 640/256 w/dynamic IP- Actual rates tested with dsl reports tool avg 220/215 and cnet dsl speed tool 159.
Programs in consideration for 1500/768 kbps ADSL static IP with free router rates:
digizip: $49/ mo w/ 12 mo contract self install n/c cyberonic $49/ mo no contract add $99 one-time set-up fee
Spoke with Steve K. at digizip and quite impressed with initial customer service. Cyberonic also put together quote in an hour and John P. phoned to answer questions.
Speakeasy is higher priced at $89/ mo and $299 charge for router but offer a rebate. How long before the rebate check arrives is a guess at best.
so any input would help. thanks newbie

| | Signed up today Signed up today with digizip for a Wcom 1.5/768, 5 static IP circut. Had a brief phone conversation with Greg@digizip; very pleasant, very quick. He emailed down a signup package for me to fill out and fax back. Also clarified for me the current promotion (free router and no setup fees for self-install).
I had a Covad link on order, but given that they were suffering from facilities issues in my CO, they were asking $30/mo more for equivalent service (1.5/384, 5 static), and I had a less than promising interaction with Covad installation support, I decided to give these guys a shot.
My first impression was most favorable - I sent a query to 'info@digizip...' last Friday evening; Greg answered my initial questions quickly, accurately, and at 6:30am that Sunday morning. Here's hoping all interactions with them are as satisfying.

Day 1 (2/8): Found out about the deal Param's had with his group order, and decided to switch. Filled out the form Digizip provided, and faxed it to Greg@digizip. | | DirecTV to Verizon to Cyberonic to Digizip
I used to have an expensive high speed DSL company. 1.7 down and 128 up. I switched to DirecTV when they first offered it. Got 700+ down/100 up. As soon as I heard they were closing, I cancelled with them and ordered Verizon. Verizon install went ok... BUT, download speeds were 50k-200k. I called 15-20 times to tech support. They said they did not guarantee speeds. When I tested their network with install1 and install2 (Genuity GSP and Qwest) I got speeds of 700/128. When I went bacvk to my account it was back to 200/50. I gave them one last chance to fix, they failed. I wrote the President of Verizon Online and got my money back.
Read about Cyberonic her on dslreports. Ordered end of January. As of today, they are still trying to provision. Verizon told them my line is dirty and they have nobody to challenge Verizon as they are shorthanded. Worldcom said my line is clear. I called Cyberonic a few times. You get two kinds of people.. One kind is VERY friendly and knowledgebale, and the other does not even know what DSL stands for. I gave them a last chance too.. they wanted me to just wait and wait and wait with no end in site. I cancelled with them this morning. I then called and e-mailed Greg at DigiZip. I will let you all know how that goes. Stay tuned.. Ed

I find it hard to believe,as I have had DSL in excess of 3yrs thru Telocity/DTV,and they weren't using Remote Terminals back then. Can't get any info from Bellsouth
Any advice? -- I've been to the end of the internet!

Numerous calls and emails to Bellsouth support were required to get this information. Seems that for a communication company they do not communicate very well. As it took 10-11 days to find this out,I had to signup with my second choice. As this results in a higher cost to me,I am looking for any and all ways to effectively pursue complaint against Bellsouth. -- I've been to the end of the internet!

| | Can someone in/near Santa Cruz, CA help me out? I've got a friend in Santa Cruz who is considering going with Digizip.
I was curious if someone who lived there or near there and has Digizip service could ping an on-line game server and post the results?
The game server is located at www.thegamebox.net and is in Utah.
From Orange County I get:
26 packets transmitted, 26 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 43.1/46.5/52.4 ms I have Cyberonic.
Thanks for the help. | |

| | | Re: Can someone in/near Santa Cruz, CA help me out I have both Cyberonic and Digizip ADSL. This is a ping over Cyberonic. I am in Menlo Park, CA, just over the hill from Santa Cruz (45-50 miles by car, 30 miles as the crow flies). I will ping thegamebox.net from the Digizip line a little later and post it, also.
If your friend can get service over WorldCom, no matter which ISP s/he chooses, they should do it. The only other service I know of that is available in Santa Cruz County is SBC/YAHOO. Although, GTE/Verizon has some circuits in 408 & 831.

I don't use any CD's. I took the IP address info and put it into my wireless router. Plugged that into the Cisco Bridge (using the crossover cable) and was live.

| | Outages?
Had my first outage last night with Digizip/Worldcom. Looked at the digizip web site for support. They have you ping the router and or then call tech support (which had a full mailbox). About 1/2 hour later it was up and working again. But.. if it was not.. what would I have done? Waited till the next business day? Can I call Worldcom and open a trouble report? If so, whats the number, etc etc etc.
Thanks,

You definietly get what you pay for service-wise. If you need/want 24-hour support from your ISP, then you have to be willing to pay for it. For $50/month, you are not going to get the 24/7 kind of support you seem to expect. Go with Speakeasy or Megapath and pay the higher rates if you want that level of support for your line.
For me, I can deal with the 'next-day' outage-service in order to save $400-$600 bucks a year. I can also say this because I have never *needed* ISP support for outages. I have not had a problem outage that lasted more than a hour in the year I have had Worldcom DSL. I've had no need to contact my ISP for a outage, so why pay for enhanced service that I don't use, or need?
