Any Realconnect user in Ashburn/Broadlands?

I just filled out the application form on RealConnect's website for DSL service. I'm located in Ashburn (Broadlands) and we're really limited down here, since our CO is currently only capable of very slow DSL speeds from Network Access Solutions.

I was just wondering if anyone else in Ashburn is currently up and running with Realconnect? What was your experience with the installation? What speeds are you getting? How has support from Realconnect been so far?

Thanks!

Well, Did you order/ receive it? Was it or is it worth the trouble?

Please let me know!

Thanks,

Re: Any Realconnect user in Ashburn/Broadlands?

Still in the middle of my order. The people at Realconnect are being very friendly and are keeping me informed at every step of the way.

I'm currently waiting on an FOC date, which is basically the date that Verizon says they will have their wiring done. This is the worst part of the whole process, since Verizon simply doesn't care and doesn't put a high priority on the order, since it's a competitor getting the business...

I think it's definately worth the time/trouble, if the 3-4 fold increase in speed from a regular modem is good enough for you. In my case, it's worth it, since I run servers, etc.

Take a look at my online diary for a good idea of what I'm going through with my install: »/dsl_diary/other/117288

Re: Any Realconnect user in Ashburn/Broadlands?

I like many others have been waiting for DSL to come to this area for a long time. I originally signed up with Priz.net for 128k SDSL at 59.99/month back in early October. The last I heard from Priz.net is that my line would be installed around Dec. 28th. After that period had passed, I was shuffled to Realconnect. The first time I talked with Realconnect I was told Verizon had scheduled the installation of the local loop for Monday, 1/8. I never heard anything for a while after that. I called again and that date was rescheduled. I still have no clue if they did install the local loop. I find myself calling Realconnect more frequently in hopes something has turned up. The latest news from Realconnect is that there is a problem with the “facilities”. I have no idea what this means, and they are unsure themselves. I am growing tired of the ISP games, canceling is not an option for me because I would end up spending twice that monthly to resign with another ISP which would probably yield the same results. It just gets frustrating after a while. I’ll post when I find more information.

Re: Any Realconnect user in Ashburn/Broadlands?

Just keep in mind that you are in the part of the process which involves VERIZON. Realconnect is at the mercy of Verizon during this phase. They place an order with Verizon for them to go down to your house and install the line. Now, since Realconnect is 'theoretically' a competitor to Verizon (even though Verizon doesn't offer service in our area, we can assume they will some day...), it's not in Verizon's best interest to place a high priority on this. Simply put, if you were to order a phoneline from Verizon as a 2nd regular line to your house, they would be there and complete the job in less than 3 days. Now, since this an install in which most of the profits will go elsewhere, Verizon just sits on the order, comes up with excuses, etc...

Eventually, Verizon will concede and install the line or claim that they can't for some incredibly moronic made-up reason. Just hang in there. And remember, Realconnect is probably just as frustrated as you are. It's in their best interest to get you up and online so that they can start charging you. Everyday that you are not 'up' is money out of their pockets. Once Verizon gets off their butts, you will notice things get a lot quicker.

In my case, Verizon was actually pretty quick in getting my line in. Of course, they failed to inform me or Realconnect that they completed the order. My wife saw the guy working outside one afternoon and I checked the box over the weekend and saw the new line with the circuit number, etc. I called Realconnect and let them know. So now I just have to wait for the line to be tested and then I schedule an NAS guy to come down and install the router!

So, hang in there. Keep communicating with Realconnect and stay on top of the situation. Just understand that at this point, Verizon has the ball and they don't like to play with competitors...

Verizon is evil.

Re: Any Realconnect user in Ashburn/Broadlands?

I just received a call back from Realconnect. It seems that my order will be resubmitted. If I am lucky this time around the facilities will be available. The only downside is more waiting. The people from Realconnect sound very sincere and seem to be working hard to get this straightened away. Does anybody know who I could contact at Verizon about the installation process?

Re: Any Realconnect user in Ashburn/Broadlands?

Personally, I wouldn't even bother... You'll spend hours on hold, being moved from one person to another, finally you will be told that you never placed an order. You will try to explain that the order was placed by Realconnect, which will confuse them even more. Then they will put you on hold and transfer you around again... In the end, they may even cancel any order you currently have, thinking there's a screw-up...

If I were you, just let the process happen... Realconnect has the order numbers, etc... You're paying them to do this, so let them handle it...

Verizon is evil.

Just got RealConnect to hook up my sdsl 256/256 last week. RealConnect was great. They have almost instant Tech support. Had a couple of questions about the router they installed and an entry for there DNS server and they took care of it within minutes.I'm close enough in Ashburn Farms to get up tpo 2mips. Hope this helps...

Yikes! Price Increase!!!

WOW! Can you believe those prices!??!? That's almost a 20% increase! I guess the trend in the DSL industry is true; the days of affordable DSL access are on their way out...

Thanks for bending us over, Verizon! You did everything to drive everyone else out of business, and now you've succeeded... Now ISP's like Realconnect have no choice but to raise prices in order to stay afloat...

I'm up with IDSL 128/128 from RealConnect

My install was completed on Friday, Feb. 16th. The whole process went VERY smoothly and I am getting exactly the speeds I was expecting to get. My ping times are much better than I thought; they easily beat 3 friends of mine on DSL...

Overall, I highly recommend RealConnect. Feel free to check out my online diary for details as to how the process went. Just click on my name on the left.
