    They Blow

I ordered this service from a business stand point. I was going to orderthe 786 SDSL line to run the 50 plus people in my office. After saying it would take three weeks to install, this was the first of febuary, they didnt call till april. Saying they dont have service coverage in my area. The I say f**k you and have a nice day (i cancelled the order) and ordered a T-1 through at&t. The T-1 is great but costs about 1500 a month. but heck its better than bieng on DLS.Net's crappy back bone. the funny thing is that in late july a technincian cam out to install the service from DSL. What part of I DONT WANT YOUR DAMN SERVICE didnt they understand in April.

    Re: They Blow

Its funny that you mention this. You ordered a 768 SDSL line through DSL.net. Then after you were told they couldnt service your area, you ordered a T-1 from AT&T. Thats funny. T-1's and DSL circuits are two totaly different types of circuits. You might want to research exactly what the process of obtaining a DSL line requires.

Oh by the way your getting raped from your T-1 provider...hehe SUCKER

    Horrible Service, Horrible Support

To say that DSL.net is a miserable service is being too nice to them. After a fiasco of being promised service and not having it delivered for 4 months, service over a period of 1 year has been pretty shoddy. Our line will periodically go down for no apparent reason, and tech support will have no answers for us. In a period of 1 week I have spent nearly 8 hours talking to tech support or holding while they run line test after line test with no different results. I can now reconstruct the entire phone directory for the New Haven Office from first level tech support to upper management from the run around we have gotten.
The last straw was having tech support tell me our firewall was bad, close our ticket and hang up, all while i was connected outside our firewall and still couldn't ping past their gateway. Every time there is a problem they first tell us its a telephone related problem and we have to wait 24 hours for a SNET service ticket, when that comes back negative they tell us we have to wait 24 hours for their people to contact us for a service call, when they can't figure it out we have to wait indefinitely for SNET and DSL.net to coordinate a time when they can come out together and figure out what the problem is. A service outage of more than 4 days is not uncommon from them.
If they ever use the line "we'll call back in 10-15 minutes", make sure you have the extension of the person you are talking to because the odds are you will never hear from them again.
If you are using DSL.net, I can only wish you good luck.

    HUH?

um... why was the "dsl.net unethical" thread moved?

I wanted to see what was in it, as I am a DSL.net customer.

    unethical or incompetent?

I wouldn't call them unethical. I DO call them incompetent. Had a connection with them for less than 3 months, already have had over 30 days down. My preivous ISP (via Zyan which went under) had me up & running for 1.5 years without missing a ping from my network monitoring system.

    DSL.net is going bye-bye

Listen up. They just cut half their staff and have no more money to run their company. If you're using them - find another provider. They have no C/S or billing or tech help. You wait and wait for somebody to pick up and they never do.

DSL.net appears to have more money

    DSL.net company line:

October 16, 2001 - VantagePoint Venture Partners, a private investment firm with more than $2.5 billion under management, has agreed to invest $15 million in DSL.net convertible redeemable preferred stock, subject to certain conditions. The investment, which has been approved by the DSL.net board of directors, is expected to fund the company through cash flow positive, based on the company's current plans and projections.

VantagePoint will initially invest six million dollars in DSL.net, with an additional nine million dollars invested in two installments, contingent upon the achievement of certain business objectives by DSL.net. The transaction is contingent upon the execution of definitive documentation and any necessary stockholder and regulatory approvals.

"We are very pleased that VantagePoint has agreed to invest in DSL.net. VantagePoint has been a great partner to us, and this further investment underscores their confidence in our ability to execute on our business objectives," said David Struwas, chairman and chief executive officer. "With this financing, DSL.net can continue to focus its collective energies on maintaining growth and providing quality Internet solutions for small- and medium-sized businesses across the U.S."

"VantagePoint has been an investor in DSL.net from the beginning. We've watched this company execute to plan, quarter after quarter. Given DSL.net's track record, its seasoned management team, and its strong competitive position, we are very excited about its future prospects," said James Marver, managing partner at VantagePoint Venture Partners.

The company also indicated that it has implemented an expense reduction plan, which includes the elimination of 86 employee positions across four locations. The company expects that these actions will enable it to achieve its cost reduction goals, while continuing to allow it to support its existing customers and grow its new customer base.

"We are now ready to take the DSL market by storm," added Keith Markley, president and chief operating officer. "Business demand for high speed data services remains strong. With this funding, and as one of the few national providers in the DSL space, we are in a unique position to capitalize on that demand."

    Supposedly 1.5Mbits up and down

We ordered our T1 about a month and half ago and the install went over fairly well we got installed within a week of placing the order. Great! we got it at $579 /month too even better.

    here comes the kicker

Ping Times to East and west coast between 170 and 200 ms - way too high

Download Speed in the 1100kbps GREAT!
Upload Speed in the 400kbps SUCKS!

Guess I should have went with Sprint and pay the extra $600 to make it $1105 a month.

I hope they fix this problem soon they just opened a trouble ticket with their backbone provider after running me around saying its the Welchia Worm then that my machines are doing this and that. And by now I have lost three customers due to this networking issue clearly on THEIR part.

complete ripoff; they're as ethical as Paypal

It took three seperate attempts to cancel our account. The service was decent but far overpriced. For the same speed and better services with Covad we're paying half what were paying with DLS.net.

None of that matters because even after calling to cancel the account they demand a fax confirmation. No other utility has ever, EVER required this of me. They closed one of our accounts a year ago after repeated attempts, we lost a good $240 on that and the account is STILL listed in their system as being active.

In closing another account they denied ever recieving the fax (which I unfortunately didn't keep because I didn't think the problem would happen again) and thus we were charged an additional two months. I then faxed a new copy of the cancellation request and they continued to charge us for another 30 days because of some ripoff policy they have.

This, despite the fact that their system can easily show that we haven't used the service in over four months AND they've already recieved the equipment months ago. This is a very unethical company and I wouldn't recommend it to ANYONE.
