MDM - Speed in MD area

Here in MD at 21061 I'm getting about 620kbps at the time I'm writing this; 3:20pm. The average for me is around upper 400's to current.

Clarification

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience in our Mid-Atlantic Region but the advertisement, pricing and this forum is specific to the Northwest Region which covers parts of Washington and Oregon.

Millennium selling contracts to Comcast

I just wanted to make people aware of the fact that Millennium Digital Media (MDM) seems to be in the process of selling of some of their cable provider contracts to Comcast over the next several months. The apartments I currently live in are serviced exclusively by MDM, but they have been unable to upgrade their service here to include broadband cable Internet access, so they are offering their exclusive right to the apartment complex I live in (along with others, according to people at MDM I spoke with on the phone around a month ago). My apartment managers at first had no idea of this change, but now they're saying it's going to happen for us in the next month or two. Apparently I am completely surrounded by Comcast coverage areas, so I'm hoping that I will be able to finally get broadband when the change happens. In the case that anyone else is in the same predicament as me, I just wanted to give you some hope!

Response to Millennium selling contracts toComcast

Hi,

I live in Seattle, WA and was wondering if this meant that Comcast was going to eventually or is in the process of buying out Millennium Digital Media?

Is it possible to get rid of a cable company?

I recently moved from a Comcast area to an area serviced by MDM. The cable TV service is poor (old cable boxes, poor signal quality, no HD premium channels just local, no on-demand service, no hope of PVR, etc.) and the broadband services is less than half the speed I could get from Comcast. Somehow I doubt if MDM will be upgrading the service here any time soon.

So basically I'm wondering if anyone knows how you would go about changing a cable service provider? Assuming it can be done at all I assume I would have to get everyone in the area to agree to switch? Can this be done or do they basically have to violate their contract somehow? How would I even find out what that contract is? Help!

This company is really bad...

For the last 4 weeks I've had severe packet loss spikes causing me to lose response to the internet every 5-15 minutes, everything stops responding for a period of 1-2 minutes, impedeing my ability to work, causing corruption of downloads, and of course making any type of online gaming impossible.

I've called their tech support perhaps 15 times, had the technician out twice, replaced my modem, replaced the cable in the building and the issue has yet to be resolved. I ran the program PingPlotter as suggested by someone on these forums and showed the issue to the technician and pointed out that the packet loss/loss of connectivity always happens from the second journey hop onward. The issue is %100 something to do with their network yet it remains unfixed!

I have a relative one county over with Comcast and he had an issue with connectivity loss, called Comcast up, had a technician go over his lines and resolved the problem in the same day. He's also paying less than I am for 6mbs download while MDM is still only 1.5mbs! I hate to say it but I wish a company would come in that knows what they're doing. It's truly unfair that we're stuck with MDM as our only cable option.

I've lived all over the US, from Geogia, the rural midwest, LA, San Francisco, even the UK in Europe! Millennium Digital Media offers the worst internet service I've ever experienced. I had a more reliable connection using a 9600 baud modem over Compuserve in 1994.

Do I have any options such as going to the bbb or fcc and reporting this company? The issue is with out a doubt a problem in their network, I believe even the technician said so. Wouldn't that qualify as some breach of contract if their network is faulty and they won't repair it (most likely from losing money because their service is so poor)?

Cannot be pinged? HELP =[

I noticed my cable has been lagging me out of games online, suddenly and without warning these last couple days. I decided to do the Line Quality Testing. It says I am not pingable. It doesn't exactly say what to do. So then I went to Doctor ping, and ran it. It says 'Sorry, 26 pings gave errors or timeouts. 101 from 107 IPs were reachable. - no record will be made.'

What the heck is going on? Thanks..

Anyone from the Port Ludlow area have MDM?

Looking for input - scheduled to have them installed soon as the only other alternative is satellite and that is not saying much.

Millennium Digital Media...

Millennium Digital Media is now BroadStripe. We are on a mission to make our service better and a more competitive product. If you are experiencing any problems, I would suggest that you go ahead and contact customer service (which is no longer local) and ask to speak with the local manager to resolve your issues and have the SENIOR techs look at your problem. Broadstripe is upgraded to High Definition and High Speed Data in most areas and is in the process of upgrading in areas such as Snohomish, WA, Granite Falls, WA and Whidbey Island. Feel free to call us at any time 1-800-829-2225. I am very sorry for the inconvenience and am a field tech the works very hard to make things right.

This is a horrible company. For one if you have a problem on the weekend, tough shit, they arent open sunday...

they put a cap on my connection without telling me and i barely download stuff. IF im able to download over 80kb its max is like 300, thats with the 5mb connection...

someone fucking sue this company and put them out of business...

Download suffers when uploading!

I was uploading a file to work today, rather large. It was maxing out my upload speed, but I still expected to be able to browse the internet, download things, etc..

However I ran a speed test on speedtest.net and was at 717 ms ping, and 600kbit down!!! I was using ZERO download bandwidth.

Broadstripe customer service

Has anyone figured out how to get them to do anything more than send a service guy? Each time they come out, they declare things good on our end and refer the issue to 'maintenance'. It seems that nothing happens after that, because nothing changes.

I got the same problem here in South Lyon, MI. Shoddy internet service and at times my dial up modem can run faster then the 3 meg service I am paying for. Something has to be done to fix this problem. It seems at night for me anyways, that my node is overloaded with modem users. I get shoddy HD reception for my local channels from them. They use an HD antenna mounted at their headend to receive the broadcast.

Re: Broadstripe customer service

We did end up having someone stop by after I had an email dialog with them. Without even knocking on the door, a Broadstripe employee climbed the poll and did something. We don't know what. After that a different employee stopped by, came in the house and ran some tests from his laptop. Speed was way, way up. After that we ran solid, 100 percent available for more than a week. So what ever he did, had some effect. I was about to post this news when we lost internet for about seven hours. OK since then, but I continue to watch.

TERRIBLE !!

Looking at the trace you provided, it doesn't look like the problem is on the cablespeed/broadstripe network. if you look, your speeds on their network are decent, but as soon as your on the sprint link.net is where the slowness is happening. and unfortunately for you and me, when it's off thier network, it's out of thier hands.

Get DSL rather

I'm in central district, Seattle. Have now been testing internet speeds for almost a year. The BroadStripe commercial says, "up to 6mbps".

In reality, you get no more than 1-2mbps. On busy nights like monday, it dips down to below 512K. I got better internet in africa, at half the price. Commercial says: blow your competition away ? In reality you can't get less than 200 ping on any game server, not even as close as Everett. Go figure.

Watching internet tv or hulu is almost impossible, you get constant buffering. I pay a 100 bucks a month, and will be cancelling soon. This service sucks, look for alternatives, and don't bother asking for engineers to come out. They just put lipstick on the pig. So now who are they paying to keep their monopoly in this part of the city ? I thought america was all about competition ? I think Qwest offers dsl, my friend just jumped over and its decent. At least you get what you pay for.

Stay away from Broadstripe / Millenium folks !!!
