1 edit | Faster ADSL options coming soon We will be adding 3 faster ADSL packages to our existing line up within the next month. Although we have not set a launch date yet, and are still working out the cost, it is safe to announce this May we will begin offering ADSL options with 768k upload.
We will be adding:
1.5/768 3.0/768 6.0/768
All include a Static IP address, with an option for 8 IP's available for $10 more/month.
Once we launch this products, we will have 7 ADSL options, along with our other IDSL, SDSL, and Fractional and Full T1 options.
As soon as we have determined the pricing for the new packages, I will let you all know.
Please visit »What would you like ADSL prices to be? Part 2 and voice your suggestions
***EXISTING ADSL USERS***
In May, your Line will be upgraded to the fastest available speed your line can handle for free. You will receive the faster speed for the month of May, at which time you can choose to stay on a faster package, or revert back to your current speed, with NO extensions of your contract.
Look forward to an exciting summer with Lightning Bolt DSL.

Did some more checking on my end, swapped the modem and firewall out and it looks like it was a bad NIC on my end.. I guess when someone gives you a free NIC there's a reason for it being free.;) Needless to say it's in the trash now..
Replaced with a know good NIC and now the line tests fine..
The one thing I really like about LBDSL is the support.. Would STILL be waiting for the other vendors to read the e-mails/message posts..

1 edit | ADSL option without Voice Lightning Bolt is introducing dedicated loop ADSL. Known in the industry as "dry loop" or "naked" DSL, Lightning Bolt's dedicated loop ADSL services are designed to help us expand our customer base by meeting the needs of end users who may not fit into the standard, line-shared ADSL market.
Dedicated loop ADSL is a suite of services that will be rolled out by Lightning Bolt in several different phases. During the first phase, we will make a dedicated loop 1.5/384 ADSL service available for ordering within one week. Additional dedicated loop SOHO services are expected to be launched in the July and August .
If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

| Re: ADSL option without Voice Interesting. Are the prices for higher speeds likely to be roughly the same difference in price compared to the shared DSL price ? In looking at the current offering it states that a new modem is required, what kind is the new modem ? Also is the monthly price the total monthly price or are there additional taxes, fees, charges ? Thanks ! | |

| Re: ADSL option without Voice We have not even priced the higher speeds yet, this will be something we will do closer to the launch of those speeds. However, it will be safe to assume they will be around $5 more per month then their line share partner.
We do NOT add any additional fees, or taxes to the price you see on the web. What you see is what you get. No surprises.
We have 2 options for the modem on the dry ADSL. We have a BroadXent 8120, which has a built in router, or our new option of a Netopia, that acts as a router AND a wireless access point. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies

| PPPoE = why?
My company is very enthusiastic about all the good press and reviews that we're seeing on Lightning Bolt DSL, and we're setting up an account for your service presently.
Things were going alright until it became clear that we were going to have to use PPPoE to authenticate to the DSL network. I'm not entirely sure I understand the purpose behind PPPoE on this network; you know our IP (it's static) and you know our circuit number. Why do we need to authenticate again? I know that this protocol has solidified somewhat over the last several years (after being notoriously flaky in the past), but for users like me that have an interest in running a server that people use for access on a continuous basis, this really adds another level of possible error that can occur.
On another note, seeing as you require authentication to sign into the WAN, can I have multiple account logins? If not, how can I access my other static IPs?
|

1 edit | Re: PPPoE = why? PPPoE, is done in the background, to allow you access to our network, In fact this is a requirement of the PoP's we use.
This helps keep cost, and maintenance down, verses a truly bridged system. Which in turns keeps your rates down.
As for your multiple IP's. Your gateway (DSL Router), handles all the PPPoE info, and once set up, you NEVER have to touch it again, or mess with it. It does NOT disconnect after so many hours, it will stay up, as long as the line is up.
After that is done, you just set up the 5 IP's we give you, on any devices you wish. Your gateway IP, is the IP of the Device doing the PPPoE (DSL Router).
Brent
You will have a Gateway IP, and 5 usable IP's. The Gateway, is the ONLY thing doing PPPoE.
MANY of our users run servers on their connections, and have zero problems. We do not use PPPoE as many other ISP's do, where each computer has software that runs, to handle this. it is all hardware based, and basically once set up, is invisible. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies

| Re: dry line?? line share?? Good afternoon,
The difference between line share and dry, is how the line is delivered:
Line share - Piggy backs on your current ILEC voice line (This is NOT an option if the line has Fiber, or load coils on it)
dry ADSL - a new pair of copper is delivered and has NO connection with your voice line.
Because the dry ADSL requires a new line to be installed, the install cost is higher.
ANY of our packages can be install at ANY location that supports that speed. the 6.0/768 can be installed at an apartment, as could a T1, or even higher. We call them "SOHO" (Small Home office) packages because we include a static IP.
And Yes, Our Support staff is Based just outside Detroit, MI, and we are staffed 24/7/365 -- Lightning Bolt Technologies

| The Cost of Dry Line DSL Why does naked dsl carry a higher monthly fee than line share service of the same speed? You have your own copper and there is no sharing profits with the ILEC, so why wouldn't it be cheaper? Especially now with covad soon being able to offer their own voice services from their DSLAM's, it makes no sense to gouge potential voice customers especially ones that won't need a new install!
The only justification I can see for the higher cost is a way to take more from the customer because of lost revenues on the installation. However, that is what contracts are for.
I am very interested in the service, but I just can't justify throwing out another $10 a month because I got rid of the phone line that cost me $10 a month.
It makes no sense to me. -- Bonnaroo 2004 : June 11-13 Manchester, TN

| Re: The Cost of Dry Line DSL It comes down to the ILEC. On a line share product, we lease part (half) of the copper for DSL, and you the end user are paying for the other half via your voice bill.
One a dry line, the ILEC is getting no money from you, the end user, so they in turn charge us more per month for the full copper line.
If you are only paying $10/month for a dial tone, consider yourself very lucky, as most area's are $20+/month for a bare bones dial tone, so the $5-10/month difference between our line share and dry line, are very reasonable.

Thanks for the prompt reply Brent.
So why all this buzz about Covad being able to offer telephone service with the Nokia DSLAM card? If they still have to rent the copper from the ILEC it is a no win situation for them. They will always have to use the existing copper. They won't be able to compete on the voice front and they are essentially still line sharing. This just makes no sense. The BELL's didn't pay to lay the original copper, we as taxpayers did way back when. So they don't own it, the government does. The only part they actually own are the physical CO's. I can see how having to share their voice line with another ISP for DSL would be annoying if not costly, but with the new Nokia card or a dry copper line they are not reliant on the ILEC at all.
Essentially what your saying is that with line share the fees to the ILEC are cheaper, but if we run a separate pair to your house Independent of the ILEC you get hit with more of a charge? I am not buying this in the least bit. It doesn't make sense from an economic standpoint. -- Bonnaroo 2004 : June 11-13 Manchester, TN

The $324 install on a dry SOHO line covers a basic Install. If anything over a basic install is needed, then yes there would be extra charges. (I have seen one (1) install need extra extensive installation, out of all the installs we have done in the last 5 years) Typically the basic install is more then enough.
