Fox News

Anyone hear chatter that MC may drop Fox News ?

I don't want to start any rumors, because I have no knowledge about MC intentions.

I would hate to have to switch providers. It's a pain in the butt to change emails and sell my DVR.

Re: Fox News

I'm not a Metrocast sub, but I still find this rumor that you heard very interesting. Just for the heck of it, I did a google on this subject, and aside from this posting found nothing. So I would say that it's just a rumor. Dropping Fox News would be a pretty stupid move on Metrocast's part, especially with Satellite & now U-Verse really turning up the heat on them.

buying my own hd/dvr converter

I have a dch 6416 that I'm, renting from metrocast,
I'd like to buy my own, and have seen a couple of dch3416's on ebay but need to know what the difference is?? I've read that the 3416 only has a digital tuner. Since all signals are supposed to be digital now, what's the diff??, I get digital cable from my company so shouldn't that be enough??

Re: buying my own hd/dvr converter

Buy a Tivo. Then all you'll have to rent from MC is a cable card.

Nesn+

I have TiVo series 4 (Premiere) with cable cards, in NH. None of my systems are doing NESNPlus (channel 727). It says the channel is not authorized.

I have called Metrocast twice and they say they have sent a refresh. but no luck. No other channels have this problem.

Now thanks to my "service assurance plan" someone will come out and check it out ...on Wednesday. Although this has been like this since April 4.

I'm beginning to think I may want to go DirecTV...

Anyone else having this problem with S4 Tivos and Nesn Plus HD? The standard def channel (77) is fine.

Re: Nesn+

Update:
Had a truck roll today. Which turned into 4 truck rolls.

I have a very clean coax now, but still no 727. Not sure what else to do now. Maybe DirecTV? Not sure

Re: Nesn+

We switched to direct tv a few years ago, unless they really ticked me off we wouldn't volunteer to go back. At that time it was comparing apples to sauteed tuna and a smooth Merlot.

Re: Nesn+

Although they did fix the channel after 24 days, I gave up and switched to DirecTV.

My internet was off for four days as well.

I dropped off the cable cards, they wanted to know why and I explained that it should not have taken that long to resolve it and no other solutions were given -- no "we can give you a box to get buy until we get it fixed" or "here's a credit for your inconvenience" ...I was pretty disappointed

So, hopefully the internet will stay on when they put the filter on the pole to formally shut off video...

Sorry to hear about your problems!

I am not minding the DirecTV either. Go figure though, right after I get it, they come out with the Genie, which would cost me an arm and half a leg to upgrade.

Re: Nesn+

The genie is nice. although it's odd to have networked DVRs. I think they use some sort of Coax networking because they plugged in something into my router which has coax going into it. It's not MoCA..maybe DECA? Not sure.

Yea, both my boxes are on the network too.

I do like the whole home DVR, but sometimes, just two tuners isn't enough!

Anyone else having Internet issues?

I'm in Rochester NH and for the last two nights my internet has dropped and my cable modem lights are crazy. It will lock and then resync. Then it will lock. Then I'll lose my IP address on the modem. Then it will cycle through.

I used Metrocast chat on my cellular ipad (yay!) and they told me there was some "noise in the lines" in Rochester and techs were working on it.

What does that mean? I assume it's affecting others and that it's not just *my* line that has "noise" in it...

Just curious, but what lights are blinking? Anything in modem logs?

Re: Anyone else having Internet issues?

No. it acts like I just unplugged it - all liights go out besides power...then receive blinks, then send blinks...then online...then send and receive go blue. It worked..and then reset.

Metrocast techs said it was because there was "noise" in the system - it was not just me, neighbors had it also.

Noise on the line refers to SNR (signal-to-noise-ratio). Basically something on the lines outside the home and in the general area cause a lot of noise and disrupting the internet. The way you describe the lights are very common for what the tech told you. All you can do in this situation is wait for the tech to go out and find the source of the noise and get rid of it.

Leviton Panel
Greetings, I have a Leviton distribution panel in my home. I want all my telephone jacks to be active with the OOMA Telo. I think if I just disconnect the telephone lines entering the panel marked "demarcation it will do the trick? My thinking is that all the telephone jacks are inter-connected in the Leviton? If so, plugging the OOMA into any house jack works to activate all of them? Thanks for your help!

Re: Ooma and leviton

Uh...wow...way over my head. I just bought Ooma HD phonesets that don't require a phone jack.

Or why not buy a cordless phone with 3-4 headsets?

Typically you would go to the POTS demarc box on the outside of the house and disconnect there, make a label stating VOIP in HOUSE wiring or something like that. You want to make sure there is no voltage through the line going into the house. Then you can use the house wiring.
Google VOIP home wiring, some good step by step instructions.
