How's everyone's speeds been lately?

I chose to go with knology about a month ago (att dsl and comcast are also available in my area- Augusta, GA).

When I first got knology there was a problem with "my tap" it barely worked, if at all. After that was corrected, the download speeds seemed to be all over the map varying anywhere between 2.5Mbps to 5.5Mbps.

A week or so after going with Knology I discovered usenet and all its glory. (Hopefully knology doesnt discontinue this service like almost all other ISPs already have).

Over the past week I've noticed my downloads have been very stable at a constant 799KB/s ~ 6.5Mbps.

How's everyone's speeds been lately?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Knology's connection for the past few months, has been studdering about every 3 mins for about 2-5 seconds.

I'll give an example. Downloading from usenet, you can see the connection dip down almost all the way on the bandwidth meter.

This the same for playing online games on Xbox 360. Downloading large enough files from websites, ftp, etc. Does it anywhere and is fairly consistent.

Using a trace route/ping program such as PingPlotter and can also see the drop outs about every 3 mins.

Here's what a normal trace to usenetserver.com looks like for me:
Tracing route to usenetserver.com [74.209.130.172]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 1 ms 1 ms 2 ms MN-700 [192.168.2.1]
  2 203 ms 201 ms 112 ms 24.214.33.1
  3 105 ms 103 ms 103 ms dynamic-75-76-40-181.knology.net [75.76.40.181]

  4 139 ms 78 ms 40 ms user-24-96-198-125.knology.net [24.96.198.125]
  5 94 ms 85 ms 92 ms user-24-96-198-241.knology.net [24.96.198.241]
  6 * 16 ms 18 ms colm-hubb-down1.knology.net [24.214.0.206]
  7 55 ms 50 ms 51 ms rtr-1-1ge.atlantaix.usa.eweka.nl [198.32.132.39]

  8 201 ms 100 ms 76 ms 2-1.r2.dc.hwng.net [69.16.191.125]
  9 107 ms 34 ms 33 ms ve1006.ar2.dc.hwng.net [69.16.190.126]
10 85 ms 58 ms 194 ms 69.16.186.122
11 86 ms * 108 ms unknown.hwng.net [74.209.130.172]

The Hop that I made BOLD, is the one the one that starts to halt the connection about every 3 mins. That Hop and everything after it, will drop packets on PingPlotter at that time.

I just want to know if anyone else is noticing the same issues elsewhere on Knology.

Need help getting Knology to fix internet.

As you guys know Knology has been sucking as of late. I'm in the Montgomery AL area and it's slow as hell. I don't understand why there isn't more people complaining to Knology, so they can fix this already. They're probably still running on docsis 1.0 in my area I believe, some are running on docsis 1.1.

Somebody from Knology needs to read this.

Trouble Shooting Slow Performance In Cable Modem Network
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk86/tk89/technologies_tech_note09186a00800b123c.shtml

See I don't want them to send tech after tech to my house. It's really annoying, and the problem isn't on my end. If I was a network technician, I would go down to Knology and fix this my damn self, but I'm not. Obviously they have technicians that don't know a damn thing or it would've been fixed by now.

What I want to know is... what can I do to help Knology fix this internet issue. Can I do some test here at my place? Send them the link to the line quality test here at dslreports.com? Maybe that tracert result? I really don't want to go back to Charter. I really don't mind the slow bandwidth either, its the slow page load and packet lost that I'm getting. It's ridiculous.... Which corporate cock do I have to suck to get something fixed!

Here's my line test result.
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2567635

What is this hop thing? Are those nodes or hub? It seems to me that hop number 16 and 17 is what they need to fix. Can someone clarify this?

Anybody that can help me, help Knology, please do so, and we can all be happy :D

Thanks for reading.
