I see from the speed tests that many people are getting extremely high speeds, however, I am getting around 6999 (which is more than I expected) when tested on Mountain Cable's speed test, around the 3000 tested elsewhere.

We have the Arris Touchstone Telephony Modem TM402P/NA1. When I first used your link ( »192.168.100.1/ ) it worked fine and I could see all the interface information. After then and up to 2 minutes ago I couldn't get it working no matter how many times I tried, however, it seems I can now access it! Weird!
A question - what are your WAN/LAN settings and in particular, you tcp/ip settings? Does this modem use tcp/ip settings? I have no idea and it did not come with any paperwork. (very annoying!)
Managed to sort out the e-mail problem by having MC reset the password. Thanks for that advice!

If you've got the phone service, then definitely make them aware of the missing battery.
Glad the email issue is all sorted out.
For TCP/IP settings, just set them all to default. It's not like DSL. Your IP is assigned by DHCP, not PPPoE - nothing to setup really. Here are my settings..

Reason it didn't come with any paperwork or manual is because theres nothing really to tweak per say. All you have to do is hook up your modem to your computer. The rest is on the computer. Run the New connection wizard, select connect to the internet, setup manually, and select my connection is always on. Thats it. No setting up username or pw to connect on XP or setting up PPPoE in the modem.
If you want, the spec sheet is available here: »www.arrisi.com/product_catalog/_···402P.pdf
Just make sure you've deleted all of the Sympatico stuff. Run the tweak test to make sure everything checks out ok. Post it here if you have any questions. Tweak test is here: »/tweaks -- Success is measured by effort

Lastly, does anyone know if you can get a 2nd phone line (not through the dsl modem)and what the cost is like? (My mother-in-law is moving in and we are thinking about getting her a separate line).

| | Bittorrent problems Hello, I have been having some problems recently with bittorrent on mountaincable. I've been using bittorrent for many years and never had the problems I'm getting now. I'm going to explain whats happening:
Whenever I start a new torrent download, I recieve the following error in Azureus almost instantly: "Connection Error (SocketException:Connection reset)" This happens instantly when I start a torrent and it has entirely crippled me for the past week.
I am not using any firewalls or virus scanners. I am using a router, but I unplugged and went straight to the source of the modem and the problem persists. Windows firewall is off. I have reformatted and went from Windows XP that the problem started on, to Windows Vista. I have tried downloading from my laptop but encounter the same problem. But I have noticed something strange. In Azureus you can change your port and test it first before you change to make sure that the connection will work. I can enter in a random port from the standard bittorent ones, to completely random numbers. And it will at first tell me that the connection was "OK!", however when I apply it still fails, and if I go to check that port again, it will tell me that it was reset by peer.
Another interesting fact, is that I can use my laptop to connect to another wireless network thats set up somewhere in my neighbourhood, and I determined that they are also running MountainCable. However I don't have any problems downloading any torrents using the hijacked internet. But then I'll switch back to my own and the same torrents that were working will go back to the socket error.
I tried calling the tech support but the guy I talked to wasn't able to determine the problem. Whats curious though is he got me to download an episode of UFC from torrentspy which he was also downloading to test to see if the problem would persist, but just because I needed it not to work like all the other torrents, it of course worked fine. I don't know whats going on, he wouldn't believe me at that point and just told me that I must have pissed off the trackers I use and that I'm set on some kind of blacklist or something. Trouble is I've gone through trackers I've never used before and the problem still persists so I know thats not the case.
I was wondering if anyone knows of what could be causing this if they've gone through it themselves, or if theres any way that I can get this fixed.
One other thing of note, is this problem originally reared its ugly head about 2 weeks ago. It lasted about 12 hours and then went away for a week and now its back and been there solid for a week.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. | |

siouxieI've got the Steel City Blues join:2005-08-18 Ontario 1 edit | Phone problem
Has anyone else been experiencing any problems with the Digital Phone service from MCV?
Tonight nobody could contact me by phone as when they called the phone rang once and went directly into voicemail. As you are aware, MCV has call waiting so even had I been on the phone (which I wasn't) it should have continued to ring before going into voicemail and I would have heard a "beep" indicating that there was a call waiting.
My husband had tried calling me several times since 8pm until I called him at 10pm to find out why he hadn't called as usual. Needless to say he was a) concerned that I was ok and b) annoyed as he thought I had been talking on the phone for hours!
The last time this happened (about 5-6 weeks ago) the phone was like this for several hours to the extent that my husband was so worried that I was not answering the phone that he was about to leave work and come home to check if I was ok. Luckily I called him before he did so.
When I called MCV to enquire why this happened last time, I was told that the modem received an firmware upgrade and some modems didn't "take" properly, which meant that it took several hours for the phone to become operational again. However, this seems a little odd as I was accessing the internet without any problems.
If anyone has any ideas why the phone stopped working properly I would be very grateful to know. My husband is beginning to think that we should go back to Bell as he is concerned that MCV's phone system is unreliable.
Thanks in advance for any assistance. -- I have bad habits...
