Buckeye Tiers Upgraded!Well looks like the packages got a little update,I'm not sure how much the other ones got but the 2Meg package is now 3 megs.
Upload speed did not get touched.
Now just waiting for the announcement of really low usage caps.
|
Darkjeste |
Another Upgrade or Mistake?Well they just upgraded the 2 lowest tiers like 2 months ago,now the other night my cable went down for about 45mins around 3am and I just noticed last night that the used to be 3meg/200kbs upload package is now screaming at 4.2meg/1meg upload.
Last Result: Download Speed: 4205 kbps (525.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 1039 kbps (129.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 8 ms Friday, October 15, 2010 10:41:28 AM
Accident or real upgrade? I would be shocked if this is not a mistake especially with the high upload speed.
|
| |
Re: Another Upgrade or Mistake?I'm on the 8.0 package and speeds are faster than normal now, albeit a little erratic. Speed test showing 10.5 down/1meg up. The engineers are working on something that's for sure.

This is just ridiculous. So I just got a brand new ASUS RT-N16 router because of its impressively sized NAT table and custom firmware capabilities for under $100. I was hoping that this would finally put to rest the ongoing issues I've been having with p2p and lobby-based game browsers/scanners such as the ones used by Steam, Xbox Live and the PSN to find game servers and/or create ones on the fly via matchmaking. I was pretty pissed off to discover that there was absolutely no change in the performance of these apps after replacing my 6-month old Netgear WNR2000v2 with the new RT-N16. It means that no matter how powerful a router I buy, Buckeye is still going to limit the x number of connections I can have per y magic timeout window, regardless of actual throughput. It drives me nuts and I don't know why I put up with it.
|
|
Looks like another speed upgrade.Well within the last day or 2 been getting a little over 5mbit on the 4meg package.
Guess an extra 100k/sec don't hurt for free, keep it up buckeye.
Any other packages get a upgrade?

My 20 has been increased to 25. But lately I've been having issues where it drops to like 2-3Mbps. I've had three technicians look at it and they can't tell me what is wrong. What is odd is that the exact same thing is happening at my work, which also uses Buckeye. Upload speeds are fine, but download speeds are severely limited. Every now and again we get full speeds lasting for a few moments, but then it drops back down for like the next hour.
Even more odd is that the modem is showing pulling down 8Mbps of data constantly, even when it is completely disconnected from any systems/routers. I even replaced the modem with a new one from buckeye and it is doing the exact same thing.
I am hoping this is just a side effect of them doing their upgrades to the hardware in the Maumee/Perrysburg hub, and it will be over soon. Not having reliable internet at home AND at work is killing me, and my productivity as a web developer.

... and now we have caps.Got a notice with the latest cable bill, Buckeye now has caps based on your speed tier. While I don't like caps, at least they tiered it so if you have the 110Mbps tier you have a 1TB cap instead of something silly like 200GB. However, now I won't feel (too) guilty if I run it right up to my limit each month. If they cap me, I'm going to get what I pay for. Cheers.

Re: ... and now we have caps.Always had them. They were just never enforced. Their TOS/AUP always stated they could limit your usage. They decided to enforce it due to those consuming more data than the others and costing more money in upgrading etc.

Re: ... and now we have caps. One rep a week ago told me ONLY Streaming Video would be counted, and E-Mail/Web surfing would not. She obviously didn't know what she was talking about.
I have been a 10 year customer, I called and they gave me the 26/1.5 with 350GB on new customer pricing. Lowered my bill by $15 and added 10mbps. But my monthly average is 500-1000GB. Still not enough GB.
I am looking at getting multiple 6mbps DSL lines, but as it seems, all Toledo DSL is just sourced to buckeye or ATT and both have even lower caps on DSL.
Is there any unlimited internet in Toledo? Should I just save up $10K and have cogent run me a dedicated line?

What are the business caps, if any? I can't believe they are going to cap businesses. Perhaps I'll inquire to see if any of my customers have received anything with their bill.
If this is true, some of my (business) customers are going to positively sh** bricks, and we'll probably have to start banning Internet radio, youtube, set up central patch servers, etc.
Cheers.
PS: Now would be the time for Google or someone else with no caps and more speed to come into the area of NW Ohio, and eat Buckeye's (and all of the other incumbent capped carriers) lunch ....

Re: ... and now we have caps. They don't have caps. You would not pay the same and have SLAs if they capped you.
Their site also does NOT state caps and reps will tell you they are cap free.
How can you charge someone $300+ a month for a service and cap it? It would be cheaper for said company to go purchase a leased FULLY dedicated line from an actual telco and be cap free.
and Bex_Caps they are free to. Nothing is stopping them- and NEVER has. Also if you didn't get the Memo- Google has all but basically given up on their FTTH project. and FYI- Overbuilding is pointless and the overbuilder always loses.

Also no carrier is going to come to TOL and build a wired network. It costs too much and there is NO ROI on it.
And Google is finding out how expensive it is. They've done but all given up on their FTTH dreams already.
Also you would find out more than 90% of the people will NOT give up their current provider. That is a HUGE reason VZ's FiOS network is NOT expanding and NEVER will at this point. And also that is why at&t is NOT building out new U-Verse areas. They can't get customers to switch.

I would have to find out what the price is for business cable since I have the 60Mbps package. I did find info on their business tiers here: » www.buckeye-telesystem.c ··· ess.htmlIt seems to be capped as well. On the FIOS note, if they moved here, I would get them in a heartbeat. FTTP is about as good as it gets.

Re: ... and now we have caps.FiOS is NOT moving here. You do realize the product is dead right? VZ is NOT selling it any more- and they do NOT do business in Ohio. It's FRONTIER.
When talking to BEX in Business they claim it is NOT capped. But it could be of making businesses order leased lines. Right now i'm the process of deploying my own network in Toledo. Fully wireless. Wanna know more- PM me.

Re: ... and now we have caps.I'm thinking a nice public works project to light up all that dark fiber and run fiber all over the place, right to my house. Let ISP's compete on price, and the network maintenance (physical plant) is shared between them all. That'll put all these unemployed people to work for years!
Slightly tongue in cheek, slightly serious.
There really is no competition - you've got ATT (or whatever ILEC), Buckeye, and perhaps a WISP (but they usually cannot compete on price) and of course satellite (yuck). Some areas has even worse choices ....
Cheers. | |

Re: ... and now we have caps.@ NW Ohio Verizon FiOS has been defiantly stopped expanding a while back. But Bedford area has reports of FiOS signs coming sometime soon. Maybe its just frontier run? idk. It won't make it to Toledo so whats it matter; I don't think FTTP is dead though. It's just a bit before its needed time.
Unless you us posting here of-course.
WISP seem to never work out for some reason or another. Fiber and real connections have much more products to sell as well. But I'm sure Buckeye or AT&T (more recently) has bought up all the fiber in Toledo.
Zayo has a nice fiber ring and is expanding right now. If you are on-net. But I couldn't find any other dark fiber around here.
Of-course we are talking possibly $200+ monthly fee for a dedicated line; if not more. But I don't think anyone here has a problem "Paying Their Fair Share", just the fact the caps & prices from Buckeye are BS.

Re: ... and now we have caps.Bedford will NOT get FiOS. you do realize that Frontier is NOT expanding their footprint either right? ATT is NOT either- and ATT does NOT have FiOS. They have U-Verse.
WISPs work only when the network is built correctly. But they're rural focused. NOT City focused. Unless you know how to do it. Which I used to own a WISP in Fremont, and have very extensive knowledge on how to make them operate.
Zayo used to be KMC Telco. And they're NOT the only provider of dark fiber in Toledo. L3 is here. So is Cogent. Buckeye and ATT has enough fiber they do not need to buy anyone else. ATT is always putting in more and Buckeye uses their fiber internally only.
Zayo also will just not splice and run a line to you. You actually have to be near them and they cater mostly to cell phone companies and UT. Fiber is starts at $1,000 PER foot NOT counting the internet loop cost.
But why only take this out on Buckeye? ATT has caps as well. The fact is some people do use more than others. It's been proven to that fact and those that don't will pay more by the capping system. Buckeye should have just started moving those higher usage customers over to business class. But they in turn even ruined that.
Register on here and PM me its free and we can discuss this more that way.

Also with Bedford it could be Frontier putting in FTTN (basically U-Verse) as they are trying this as well.
|
| | | | | | | | 25139889 |

Will never happen. That dark fiber is NOT available for public use in your neighborhood. You'd have to go into where it is spliced at. And it's NOT in a neighborhood. And you do realize how much that would cost right?
NOBODY would be willing to foot that bill. To hook 1 customer up it would cost $3,000+ not including building out a NOC.
Also Springfield/Holland is TWC land.

Re: ... and now we have caps.Like I said, if you are on-net you probably could get a dedicated line for a reasonable price. Instillation price is the worst, yes. But if you don't plan to move for quite a while 10k investment in installation is not bad all things considered....
I not sure what you mean dark fiber is not for public use. Obviously its not free or public, but anyone could buy/lease/contract enough fiber to start a ISP. It's not just financially viable or a very good investment.
What do you mean Springfield/Holland is TWC land? Do you mean Buckeye-Express land?
Buckeye has been the only service available to my house. U-Verse started maybe 2 years ago? They only knocked on my door a tried to sell it to me it over 15 times.
Did I miss something? Is Time Warner owners of Block Communications? IDK all I want is unlimited internet. I don't really care the speed. Every DSL company in Toledo is really Buckeye or AT&T DSL outsourced.

Re: ... and now we have caps.the caps are far better than ATT as well. T stops at 150gigs on ALL tiers. They're product is also sub-par with Buckeye- meaning the more TVs are turned on- the slower the Internet gets- use the phone- the internet slows down. It's also not Fiber Optic like they claim either.
Better caps, better company.

Caps are so lame. I just wasted my time complaining to Buckeye about the caps (I will have a 500 GB cap). Some months, I will get close to the cap or I may even go over, but since it will be $10 per 50 GB block on the overages, I guess I will have to deal with it.
At least is it generous compared to other ISP's like ATT and Comcrap, but it still sucks!! I would rather pay an extra $20 or whatever and not worry about any caps at all.

You know it sure would be nice if that Consumption graph actually reset at the start of the month. Why is it keeping track of half of may and now the start of june and combining them?
Or are they gonna do it like their billing cycle where around the 15th starts a new month?

Re: ... and now we have caps.and actually yes- it would have to be done by billing cycle. That way you can be billed at the time you hit an overage. It only makes sense to do it by billing cycles.

Two hour tv interactionSwitched back to buckeye from AT&T, Buckeye re-wired the entire house for their new system at no cost to me, and everything works well, tv, www and phone. However, if I am watching a tv program that lasts longer than two hours, I get this annoying pop-up on the tv that requires me to press OK on the remote, or the tv goes into a Buckeye screen saver. Customer service says it is their method for conserving bandwidth and can't do anything about it. Any comments or work-a rounds?
Thanks, Mike | |

HDHomerun or Ceton Infinitv?Has anyone successfully used a Ceton Infinitv or HDHomerun with a cablecard on Buckeye? I'm thinking of upgrading my mythtv box and grabbing a Ceton card (along with a cablecard from the local buckeye office). One account two locations - Buckeye
I live in Toledo and have most of the packages buckeye offers, I own a business and pay for basic cable in the waiting room for my customers in Rossford. In my office I have a flat panel and would like to get HD.
Can I take a box from home and connect it at work to get all the channels from home?
Anyone try this?

Meter not working correctlyAnyone sign on to the customer portal and notice the usage/consumption meter is "empty"/shows no usage? Also, » usage.bex.net is WAY out of wack and seems to be off by a factor of 8X. They showed "overages" for me last month (which my equipment disagrees with by an order of magnitude) but nothing appeared on the bill. Call center folks had no clue. In addition, with January 2018's "letter" my bill has no crossed that magic $200/month threshold where I'm going to be looking somewhere to save/shave stuff ....

Re: IF I change the password on wifi then can someone actually reverse it back?well the wifi password will be changed in the router settings page which has it's own default username and password that are on the bottom of the modem it's self. So yes if those are left default then all she needs to do is go in there and change it right back but you will know since all the wifi in the house will have to change to the new password each time it is changed or those that haven't will not be able to access the internet through the home wifi.
What i suggest doing is calling buckeye and having them take you step by step in changing the username and password to the modem it's self so she cannot do what she said she would do lol.
