| | Worst I've ever had. Bottom Line. It just sucks.
Slow speeds, and stupid tech support.
adelphia is much better/
| | memphi join:2002-06-13 Shawnee, KS | Re: Worst I've ever had. Wow..... just wow. few questions to ask:
1. Slow speeds, lets resolve that right now. The everest network is designed at 200 houses per node. Ok... thats what, 300 houes less per node than time warner, ok, so theres more bandwidth for you to the datacenter. Then the 0C192 we have to downtown kansas city, which then goes out of the various providers, is already faster than road runners. So there, our total connection is faster and built better than roadrunner.
2. on SBC, well sbc uses a single ds5 for all of the kansas city customers. A ds5 isn't enough bandwidht for a county. SO, SBC blows.
3. Aldephia isn't even avaliable in most of the everset coverage areas.
4. Tech support.... our techs are trained monthly, and have to pass a competency test ever 3 months.
Ill sum this up, if u have any questions, call me directly at 322-9695

| | Dial Back-up?
Had a client that signed up for a business account that includes 3 ported voice lines, 384/384 Internet service, and Trail Notes. I called the corporate help-desk and when I asked about a local dial back-up that the customer could use at home to retrieve webmail, I was told to purchase an AOL Dial-up account for web access and then the client could get Everest Webmail online. WTF??? Are you kidding me?
| | | Everest in Overland Park Our neighborhood is now having the Everest lines installed. While progress and competition are important in today's economy, customer service and integrity are the utmost of importance. Everest's Customer Service and Integrity are questionable at best.
Since Everest was installing their main lines throughout the neighborhood, I did the right thing per the literature that I received hanging on my door. I informed them that I had a number of items that they should be aware of that go well beyond landscaping ... Sprinkler System, Invisible Dog Fence and a Dog. The Everest representative contacted me and stated that they would repair any and all damage caused by their network installation in the neighborhood.
Given the fact that I had no "Call before you dig" paint marks in the yard the week prior as they had done in the rest of the neighborhood, I was relatively comfortable that they were not going to dig in my yard. Then the Monday that they were to start the Network Installation in the neighborhood notice that the Utilities had come in that day and painted the "Call before you dig" lines in my yard. Again, I contact the Everest Representative, and she got back with me personally on that Tuesday to tell me that they would not be digging in my yard.
Upon my return from work on Tuesday, I found that Everest was indeed digging in my yard. My invisible dog fence had been broken, and the Everest Network Construction crew was using my entire 1/2 acre (approximately) as a staging ground. Given the fact that they are only allowed to use the utility right away and their WORD was not kept, I was severally upset.
I tried contacting the Everest Representative, her supervisor and their supervisor with no return phone call. The Construction Supervisor in the field told me "We don't care." (That is an exact quote). When the Construction Supervisor was asked about the Utility Right Away use and the use of the center of my yard, he asked "Do you want us driving our trucks down the right away." (That is another exact quote)
While I have read may positive reports about Everest in our area, I am surprised with this kind customer service. It is as though there is an attitude that if there is a problem we will not address it with the customer. My problem with Everest is that they did not live up to their Word, which in my eyes is an oral contract with potential customers. In addition, the Everest Construction Staff have no sense of customer service with statements like "We don't care."
Based upon this experience, I would encourage everyone to seek service from a different provider or providers. In today's world not everything is price!
| | | Everest in South KC Just got Everest's "Ultimate Family Pack" for 99 bucks a month, with NO CONTRACT...EVER...well until they make it a new rule. Young guy came over and looked at the previous setup (Time Warner). I have the entire house wired back to one point in the basement with a single coax splitter. Have a network of computers, wired and wireless. Kid was kinda' impressed with the cable installs and the network setup.
Swapping out the old modem with the new one took a bit, because the kid had to call the "Center" twice to get them to activate the thing, but finally did. New cable box with all regular HBO included in package (no HD stuff). One cool feature about Everest, and I know you can but 3rd party devices, is that the Cable box and the phone service are integrated in that caller ID shows up on the screen, I like to call this "the ultra lazy add-on" for those too damn lazy to grab the phone to see who's calling. I digress...
Did a few connection speed tests. Some from dslreports.com and some random ones. One particular site I like is www.speedtest.net, they have a flashy interface, but nice none the less. Did some tests and found that my 5 Mbps is actually more like 7 Mbps. That's right my speed is FASTER than advertised!! Guess its not capped on the top end as of yet, that or their just aren't a lot of people signed up yet and I have a great run of the node.
So to all the ney sayers, Everest is a good service and up and coming. I think they will just get stronger with there prices (meaning more competitive) and services in the time to come. Good wiring is the base for all communication be it copper for DSL and the such to fiber. Good wires mean good service. So if you think the speeds aren't all that great have them drop the line from the pole and put in a new one. Start from their and you will see results.
| | | Anyone still using Everest in OP, KS?
Any change in the level of service since they were bought by SureWest Communications in Feb. 2008? Thinking about signing up for their 10 MBit service, hoping they're still the same sold company that the comments would indicate.

| | drgonzoPremium join:2002-10-28 Shawnee, KS | I have had them in Shawnee for quite some time now, and have had minimal issues with them. I recently upgraded to their 10m service and will run random speed tests at random times during the day and on average see between 8.5-9.5m down and always 1m up.
My only real complaint is that they will seldomly have downtime but when they do, its generally been in the evenings on weekends and the answer every single time has been 'you will have to wait until tomorrow to hear back from an engineer'. While that is not in an of itself a huge deal, every time it has been a problem affecting more than myself - if there is a larger wide-spread problem, I would hope they would not wait to work on it until the next day. Its a pretty trivial complaint, but it is what it is.
All in all, I would strongly encourage anyone wanting fast and reliable service to give them a try. -- "Discharge of a nuclear weapon shall be deemed a warlike act, even if accidental." -- My homeowners insurance policy
| | | | I've had Everest (...Now a SureWest Company) now for over 2 years in the Waldo area. As with ANY internet/cable TV, and phone provider their is always growing pains, outages (planned or not) from upgrades, to weather. But I have the middle of the road package internet speeds anywhere from 5-7mb down and always 512k up. Internet service is one of the best I have ever had (better than Charter, SBC, ATT, and Time Warner). The cable TV side of the business is OK, I have noticed since SureWest took over they have been testing out the Edge router type video delivery, so when changing channels especially full digital channels it can take a few seconds and on certain channels their can be some video lag or skips. But all in all the cable tv side is OK and now they do offer a cable box and or DVR with HDMI outputs instead of the DVI crap. The phone service is good old POTS/analog service with on screen caller ID through the TV (which works 98% of the time) is a cool feature only for cable box hooked up TVs. I only mention it being analog, because unless you have good battery backups with VOIP you're SOL when the power goes out and a tree falls on your car in the front of the house [yes that happened!]. The no contract aspect is good too, but can leave you in the breeze when they decide to raise prices (which have risen 20 bucks over the last 2 years). But calling for support/service, is spot on, no BS just get in get the info. or change you want made to a service and BOOM its done. All said if I were to move and Everest/Surewest wasn't in the area, I might think twice, but I like the Waldo area and plan on staying a while. | |
