Packet 8....Nothing but trouble

Ive been with packet8 for about 6 months. Their customer service is terrible, they don't answer emails, you cant talk to anyone other than customer service level employees when you have a complaint.During phone calls often they are dropped. The black box they give always has to be reset, and you could be home and no-one can reach you. The only way I found out nobody could call in, was because my sister lives down stairs and family asked her to go to my house and tell me my phone isn't working..... I don't recommend them. Packet8 no audio on 75% of calls (inbound and outbound)

Having been a Packet 8 customer since 2006, we have started having issues. Over the past year, inbound or outbound have resulted on no audio on the packet8 number. In all cases, the remote party can hear the P8 party clearly. The call is active until either party disconnects. This issue started out a low number of calls but happens on about
75% of them.

This issue happens on both a FIOS and Comcast connection. The original P8 410 device has been switched out for with a new 510 device and the issue still occurs.

At the present time the issue is happening over a FIOS connection with the P8 router being directly connected to the ONT via ethernet.

The call statistics show that while X number of packets were send, 0 packets were received.

Ping tests to the P8 servers shows no packet loss and low fluctuation of response times.

Originally P8 said the issue was due to the FIOS ActionTek router and Firewall. Set the firewall security level to low and then disabled the firewall all together and issue still occurred.

Switched the FIOS connection from MO/CA to ethernet to be able to connect the P8 router directly to FIOS connection. Issue still occurs.

nightmare with tech support and customer service

About a month ago my voip ETA310 quit working, so I started to troubleshoot and relized I had and still have a bad unit I guess after time it gave up, been a customer of theirs for about 6 years now. I am a Maintenance Specialist for one of the largest telecommunication companies in the country, certified in a few things head of projects such as Voip and such. So I made the first call to packet 8 and tried to explain my problem, the fellow who was on the other side of the phone had no interest to hear my problem and blamed it on something I had done (you know one of those ignorant people who subscribes to their service that really dont know how it works and why it works) thanked me for calling packet 8 and wished me a good night. Called back, called into the wrong department, didnt realize I did so until I waited about 25 more mins on the phone with them, from there they sent me back to tech service, well this time my cell phone battery died. Before it did, I gave them a different number to call me so we could still solve my problem, never got a call back.
Started a ticket off their site, # ID535987 to their reply was "love to help you and replace your unit at no cost but we need to troubleshoot and told me how to do troubleshoot 101 on the unit and wished me a good day and to call back if I still had problems. I know am getting long-winded but it gets worse.
So next day I called and scheduled to have my account terminated, then went back to tech service and said am I serious about this I will leave if you dont fix my problem to Kim (am pretty sure this is her name, the tech supervisor on the floor that day) she assured me that billing would solve my problem if I explained my issues again, at this point no one again from the first guy really had cared to know what my problem is, simply the fact that I informed them that I called ten times by then was enough for everyone of them even the supervisor to know that they didnt want to deal with me and push me right along to the next person. So I went back to customer service and billing to be wished a good day again and they were not able to help me with anything, So at this point my question is, How do you keep customers if you cant troubleshoot?, oh wait I have to ask this first Are they interested in troubleshooting and actually finding the problems? Not even if the customer is willing to close an account where you have gotten your money ever month for the last six years? the company I work for will follow up with you if you called two times in the last month just to see if there is something else wrong, a supervisor will make contact with you if you have called 3 times in a week or less time. And yes we drop the ball from time to time like any other company but man, when a customer calls that many times and goes that far we make sure that he is happy by the time we are done fixing the problem.
To finish my complaining, I decided I wanted to end my business with Packet8, and port my number to a different company so I called packet 8 and asked to keep my account active until I could take my number that I ported on to them well they assured me they would and last week I get a notice saying that my account was terminated. So Please read this and let me assure you that this company will take your money for the service but when you need support they will not help you, and I am not so sure they have people in every shift who are qualified to help you, specially if you tell them you work on that field.
And if your local telecommunication company offers voip, it may be more expensive but they are worth it because they do have local techs who will work on the stuff if you need it.

Is Packet8 down (1/7/2009)?

Is anyone else experiencing service outages and completely unable to contact Packet8 today?

Plus our calls are supposed to be forwarded to an external number but that ain't happening.

Re: Is Packet8 down (1/7/2009)?

Other Packet 8 customers have been calling Gphone to say Packet8 is down and their customer service is not responding. You can switch your hosted pbx business to »www.gphone.com. We use fully redundant Broadsoft switches mirrired accross to geographical separated colocation factilities and have not had any downtime in over two years.

Re: Is Packet8 down (1/22/2009)?

The last few days the service has been going down every night around midnight Eastern Time. Now ... busy signal and the modem shows no service. The web page appears to be re-registered with register.com

Who knows ... bad service to do something like this. We are without phones altogether.

I'm in Colorado my service is down as well.

Here is whats happening here:

People calling in go straight to my Voice Mail service -- so, their back-end phone and Voice Mail systems are working.

I pick up the phone and get a fast busy (this is probably generated by my local phone rather than their service), so hard to tell whats going on here.

The website www.packet8.net goes to a register.com domain sniping site.

My guess is they lost their domain somehow and the phone uses DNS to contact them...

No phone service

@cableone.net
Yep. I'll be calling in the morning to switch to a different phone service. Packet 8 doesn't have it together right now- terrible website, no customer service. I'm done.

Packet8 is down in Lexington KY. Their customer service phone number works but it says all lines are busy and to call back later. The customer service number is 866-879-8647

I can't call customer service since I can't break through the fast busy signal that I get instead of a dial tone. Any suggestions? Our service is through Time Warner Cable. The router still seems to be working since I can still connect to the internet and the computer connects through the packet8 uniden phone.

So glad to find this post. I thought that there was something wrong with my desk phone and was buying a new one here on the West coast of Florida. Same there here in recent days. Straight to voice mail, now today fast busy and place holder for the website. This doesn't look good. I am a home based business. NOT very happy.

I am in the same boat. It appears that their website has been taken down as well. Luckily it is forwarding to my cell phone. But I am wondering if the economy has claimed a victim.
