The newly released build resolves an issue which made Skype to use excess amount of system resources on the Windows 8 Release Preview, build 8400.

I doubt this will block the crappy new audio ads, but I can't be sure until I run into them.
For US users, Skype currently pulls ads from these servers over port 80.

One way to block by IP in windows, is to use IPSec.
It's tougher to learn than blocking by host file, but it can be more effective.
Here's a guide to IP Blocking, using IPSec in WinXP/2003. Vista/7 is similar.

I use the list in pfSense as an alias. I'd guess it could be used w/ Smoothwall, MonoWall, IPFire, etc.
It should work with IPTables (*nix/BSD) and IPSec (Windows).
The CIDR format can be converted to IP ranges for PeerGuardian / PeerBlock apps.
Drop me a note if you want help figuring that out - or if you want hosts file entries instead.

To build this list, I wrote a couple of bash shell scripts.
One continually builds a list of MS ad server IPs.
The other compiles a list of MS Web Service (ie Hotmail) IPs, so they don't get blocked by mistake.

Hotfix for multiple Skype clients
We are rolling out a hotfix over the next few days for multiple Skype clients to address a couple of known issues.
We recommend downloading the updated versions of Skype once they are available.
The affected Skype clients are:
Skype 5.10 for Windows
Skype 5.8 for Mac
Skype 4.0 for Linux
Skype 1.2 for Windows Phone
The hotfix addresses an issue that occurs only when a user's Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user. Although we cannot determine precisely how many users may have been affected by this error, we believe the number is small given the very specific circumstances under which the error occurs.
During further investigation, we confirmed that not all Skype products were affected by this error as originally reported. We can assure that users of Skype 5.9 for Windows, Skype 2.8 for Android and Skype 4.0 for IOS have not been affected.
In addition, we have fixed File Sending on the desktop versions of Skype where it was not possible to save files for users who have a hard disk drive in FAT32 format.

Skype usage up 50% under Microsoft
While the majority of the tech media seem intent this week to report Microsoft's first ever loss since joining the stock market in 1986, there's one particular piece of good news that came from the company's recent quarterly earnings report. Skype's global usage jumped by 50% in the last quarter, equalling to 115 billion minutes worth of calls on the service.
The growth in Skype alone has perhaps been accountable for most of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division's 20% increase in revenue over the last quarter. The news certainly isn't bad for Redmond, who is looking for good news that their purchase of Skype last year was the right decision. As a result, the division's revenue grew by $292 million in the last quarter of April to June.
It's certainly good news for the service, along with the announcement earlier this week that Microsoft intends to fully integrate Skype into its next array of Office 2013 products, set to be released later this year. The 'presense' feature which will be seen primarily in Outlook, allows the user to start a call with either one or many co-workers simultaneously. In other words, Skype looks set to be commonplace in almost every office environement worldwide, if Microsoft has its way.
For a while now, critics have been unsure of which direction Microsoft wanted to take the VOIP service. The news of Skype's growth and integration into other Microsoft products will certainly help to keep the doubters quiet.

If one of the group is on an Ipad - the group call didn't work for us even though we were running a PC. They refuse to make a refund even though we requested it within 1 day of ordering. Today we have released an update for the Skype for Windows Phone 8 Preview, version 2.4
