YAY! Finally someone has a forum for Atlantic Broadband, whee!

Now, there are two Atlantic Broadbands... are we speaking of the one at www.atlanticbb.net or atlanticbroadband.com?

Hopefully the former.

To my knowledge, you can't make it a "site favorite", if that's what you mean. But you can make it a browser favorite, put a shortcut to it on your desktop, or make it a browser home page.

Okay, so I live in Middletown, DE which has been plauged with little (or no) broadband solutions forever. Charter communcations got kicked out and Atlantic BB took over. I signed up for service and everything was installed and working. Then I started a new job working from home and now everything (my computers, routers, IP phone) are completely RELIANT on solid, stable connectivity. I continually get knocked off of my cable connection for 5 - 10 minutes at a time, multiple times a day. I check the Motorola 5120 surfboard logs and they register T3 timeouts at the exact same time my continous ping test starts dropping packets. I have replaced EVERYTHING including modem, power supply, connected cable, router, directly connected a PC for a while, etc...
I've placed at least 10 calls to support, tried to escalate to the field service manager in my area (no avail) had 3 service techs come out and still NO FIX!!!!
WTF am I supposed to do. One time the tech came out and actually replaced the modem and saw this drop happen with his own eyes. He said it was definitely an upstream issue, but could not find the problem.
Everytime I call support they say my levels are fine (they are OK, not great) but they will often see "flapping" of the line from there tests to my cable modem.
Who do I need to talk to for help?
Can anyone at Atlantic BB read cable modem logs?
I've even contacted Motorola and they said it's definitely ISP related. Where do I go from here... FIOS is installed in my front yard but per Verizon is still MONTHS away... Middletown, DE SUCKS for Broadband.
Oh yeah, my cable modem reboots itself as well (via the logs)

Atlantic Broadband thottles BitTorrent!

Just like Rogers cable in Canada, ABB completely throttles BitTorrent and speeds can not be acheived.

I'm truly upset as this is the only broadband internet connection available to me in my area.

I'm stuck using IRC, Newsgroups, and DC++.

I want my BitTorrent!

Does anybody know any ways around?

Re: Atlantic Broadband thottles BitTorrent!

I see you're in Middletown. Are you sure you're not lit up for Fios? The only other option is Netgazers but that's pricy and not nearly as fast as ABB or Fios...

Middletownguy

@de.atlanticbb.ne
Use a SOCKS proxy; with some tweaking you'll get semi-decent speeds. Nothing like NO throttle, but do-able.

SmithfieldShadow

@207.255.x.x
I call ABB every day now and complain how it is not right for them to limit my speed when we bought 5MB unlimited. Downloading and uploading Torrent files is a nightmare now! I went from 640KBs a sec to next to nothing now and upset isn't the word. Today i was told by them that P2P sharing is mostly illegal downloads so they are policing the net and not allowing it. I can't even host a chat room on Ares. Not one person can make it inside and the room motd took me so long to make so nice. I said i just want to do like other people in the world. So the guy said soon all ISPs are going to block p2p programs. That's a nasty thought.

I have no other ISP choice here. As for doing Bit Torrents I found by rebooting my PC and modem every few hours it makes the torrents start moving again a little better. I know torrent sites don't like you shutting down but its the only way to get any activity. All in all it sucks but i hate giving up something I love to do cause ABB says so. I feel my freedom has been taken away and I can't do what i want to with the service I pay for!

No problems here with BitTorrent. Download speed always is between 280kb/s and 320 kb/s which is correct according to the package i pay for.
On the other hand, I don't use BitTorrent 24/7 and i don't use any questionable P2P networks

Fios will start construction soon in my area. Can't wait, I've had just enough of this p2p throttling crap.
With a 15/2 connection from fios, I can get a max of 3888 gb / 518 gb transferred per month. Insane. And just this sunday, circuit city was selling Seagate 200gb hdds for 29.99. Time to add on some additional hdds

They don't throttle my connection at all, and I use Bit Torrent alot. Then again, I also use it for Linux distros, and yes, ISPs CAN tell what you are downloading, as BT traffic is flagged and wide open that way. All the techs have to do is watch the server logs and see everything you do online, heh.

I am making a wild guess here but in theory it could be possible that your computer has a bug and with the Cable Company everything is fine......

Slow Usenet download speeds

I have an AtlanticBB 5 Mbps down account.

Since moving from from Texas (where I had Comcast) to Maryland, my Usenet provider (Giganews) download speed has dropped dramatically. At first, I thought it was Giganews, but I signed up for a month with Supernews and Newshosting and I get the same slow speed.:(

My second guess was my Linksys router, but the slow speed remains even when I plug the cable modem directly to my pc.

I tried another port in Agent, but it's still slow.

Regular web downloads are at full speed.

Is AtlanticBB slowing traffic on typical newsreader ports?

Yesterday i received a Flyer from ABB with information about there new VoIP phone service for $29.95/month. Does anybody have more information about this? I can not find anything on ABB's website. I'm interested in rates for phone calls to Europe and how they handle 911 calls.

T3 time-out

Since several month my Modem (Motorola 5120, same before with Motorola 4100) is loosing connection at least 4 or 5 times a day. Below i have posted some of the Modems logs. The Modem then starts re-booting a lot and it takes up to 10 minutes until it is working again. However, if i unplug the power from the Modem and the coaxial cable, then plug everything back in it will work again right away. Any suggestions or ideas?

If this was still charter, I would say after FIOS was generally available, and they were loosing customers to it. Hard to say, I live in grasonville behind the emissions center, and I only get an average of 320k download. Figure I will end up moving out of the area before we ever get it over here tho.

Internet Speed and TV Complaints and other support by email

I finally was able to find out the email for Atlantic Broadband's support. It is

emailsupport@atlanticbb.com

make sure you put in .com because it's not .net like the rest.

If you wish to complain about your speed, email them with your complaints A.S.A.P. I am already complaining about having 320kbs/320kbs for Starter for like two years now while Preferred and Max have been upgraded a couple of times, at least way more then starter.

Also, I complained about basic cable being just that, extremely basic. It's almost nothing but local channels, it's really not even with $20.

Just a heads up to any Middletown area people who weren't aware, Fios TV is now available. Picture quality, channel lineups and inclusion of Video On Demand make it an attractive option for ABB, Dish and DirecTV customers. I was hooked up last week. Just an FYI... we finally have some options here south of the canal!

Mac + AtlanticBB = Frustration

Howdy!

I just climbed onto the Atlantic Broadband wagon a week or so ago. I live in a very rural area and was SO thankful when Atlantic Broadband came. However, I'm having troubles....

The tech guys installed the equipment and got my older mac (OS 9.2) to work. They explained nothing, they said it's working, and they left... and it is working.... quite well. But, I have a newer Mac laptop with OS X (10.4) and have no idea how to connect it. Can anyone help? I'd like to use it online instead of the older machine.

I've set the network settings to DHCP, just like on the older Mac, but I cannot connect to the Internet with the newer OS. It's almost like the cable modem was configured to talk to an older system, but ignores the newer one.

Sorry to ramble.... I just need answers, and their tech support isn't supplying them.

Peace,
Egghead

Since I'm not able to ad any replies to my old posting, here is an update about what has happen in the mean time. Yes, the error messages are still there:

I contacted tech support from atlanticbb and then talked to one lady, then was transfered to another lady. I asked her about the error messages and she said that she didn't know what it means. She told me to contact the modem manufakturer and ask there. I asked her to check my connection from her side which she did. She told me that everything from her side is looking normal and is with in normal range. We then did setup an appointment for an technician to come to my house. The technician came 4 days later, checked and tested my cable several times, changed some connectors on the outside box. he told me that he was not able to find anything unusual and that all measures are in normal range.
Well, now I'm back to square one......

I've been frustrated with only getting 20KBPS from Atlantic Broadband on my torrents for about 2 weeks now, and finally decided to other BellSouth, keeping ABB until the DSL was verified as working, as to not leave myself stuck without internet. From Bell, I was hoping to get 6MB, insteasd I qualified for 3MB, and the router is unable to train up to even 2MB.

I figure I can make some support calls and maybe a technician can see what's causing the issue (I used to be a DSL installer years ago, so I know to test at the demarc & blah blah).

So, I plugged back in my Atlantic Broadband connection. Bittorrent is in the startup on that computer and automatically loads (noting: I do have encryption enabled but not required within Azureus, this still gave me slow speeds) - and got a shock.

I'm downloading at nearly 300KBPS!?!? Impressive, as I'm on their 3MB plan.

So, is this a fluke that I shouldn't expect to last? Is it just me? Or, has anyone else noticed a speed difference in this type of traffic from them?

Would be interested in hearing from the rest of you!

Regards,

- John

Re: Speeds

Just check out their website - you'll need a ZIP code to enter (mine, Miami Beach, is 33140) -

Available here is a slow speed (I forget the exact speed of it),the 3 megabit package, and the highest is a 5 megabit package.

DSL from SWBell is faster @ 6 megabit- they also do not throttle your File Sharing or (some) types of encrypted traffic as AB does, nor is there $125 of setup fees for phone, cable, and internet service, in fact $250 (total) of rebates for signing up.

Sorry if I sound jaded, I'm one of the many with a bad AB experience.

Atlantic Broadband in Miami nightmare

This company is easily the worst I have ever encountered. I am going to spend all my free time making them comply with FCC regulations or have the company's license to provide service revoked.

I flew to Miami specifically to set up my condo with HD TiVos that use CableCards. I needed 6 total (2 for each unit). I have been here 2 weeks and had a technician here 3 times. They have only provided me with 1 card. All other cards tried do not work. The cards are from Scientific Atlanta (Cisco). Scientific Atlanta will not help me. Atlantic Broadband says to me they have no more cards and they don't support TiVo, both illegal statements.

I called TiVo and a low-level CSR didn't seem to care and didn't want to engage the process whereby they complain to the FCC. A higher level CSR did seem to care and was immediately willing to begin the process of putting pressure on Atlantic Broadband to comply with the law. I am waiting to hear back.

Atlantic BB advice please

I'm in South Carolina, and bellsouth has yanked my chain for the last time.
i have Atlantic BB as my cable provider here, and they offer both a 6mb and a 8mb package.
BUT, I'm seeing some horror stories here about ABB throttling
bittorrent, etc.
can anyone in s.carolina tell me whether your having this kind of problem?
what about their newsgroups? are they any good, and do they get throttled?
although I've had it with BS dsl, i don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire, switching to ABB.

please give me advice on ABB.
