Re: ATA and Softphone

Hello,

You can but it is not recommended because when a call is incoming it will go to the last known device.

Re: free VOIP service with Fax?

Hello,

It is possible however we do not guarentee it will work. The problem is we don't always control the termination path so basically if it is compressed at any point it will not work.

So if it's failed, will the system send an alert to fax machine then we can know it's failed? or we just don't know if the fax is sent successfully or failed?

You would not know for an incoming Fax. I want to be clear that we do not officially support fax. Please use at your own risk.

Re: free VOIP service with Fax?

The free Voip was a promo that we were running here at DSLreports. We are currently running a few other promos through Google. Just type Voip on the Google search engine and a few of our promos should show up.

I would put a link here, but I don't want to violate any term here.

It will work with the PAP2, but not officially support by Acanac. I am sure a few clients are using this unit so please just ask around. Our service will work with most SIP compatible devices. I personally never tested those specific brands, but your feedback would be welcomed.

Free VOIP!!! - what's the catch??

I have been looking for a VOIP provider and I am glad I can get the chance to try one for free.

But, where is the catch??.. Only termination in Toronto, means I can only do local calls from Toronto. How much if I want to add unlimited Canada??

Although I have heard good things about Acanac's DSL service, can anyone comment whether they shape (prioritize) their network traffic?

I currently subscribe to Bell Sympatico and they are shaping in the evenings. I have a free trial account from Acanac and from what I can tell they do not. The speeds have been consistent at 500kb/s.

Is Acanac able to sustain this non-shaping indefinitely or are they at Bell's mercy on this one?

Re: Traffic Shaping?

Even thought we do use Bell network to provide our DSL service the bandwidth it's self is controlled by us. I personally don't see Bell changing the rules because it would require CRTC approval.

Re: Hardware Recommendations: Best DSL Modem

Any hardware works. THey are all standard so pick whatever you want. There is no real specifications because modems and ata's work in the industry standards which is what Acanac uses.

Quality of Service?

I was once of the early adopters of VOIP 3 years ago. However, I noticed that whenever I downloaded files at high bandwidths, the voip service would deteriorate significantly. I know technology has advanced now, how is the quality now?

Re: Quality of Service?

Hello,
There has been some changes in technology but it should work. We have clients using ATA's we had over 3 years ago and they are still working without a problem.

In the end you still need to have enough bandwidth for your Voip call. Some of the newer units can shape your bandwidth and would prevent downloads from affecting your calls.

Great campaign

I have always been interested in VOIP, but in the past I could never trust the quality. This free VOIP service is a great way to allow customers to try before they commit. Looking forward to sign up to the program.

!!! D-link vta-cv voip adapter always disconnected!!!

I have two unlocked d-link vta-cv voip adapters.
One is 1.00.7 firmware and one is 1.00.8 firmware, both are unlocked.

I setup the same voip number (647********) and related settings in the two adapters, all are working fine, all can receive calls and can call out.

But after a few hours connecting, both of them will disconnect.
the power light and internet lights are solid green, line 1 and line 2 will be black(no signal at all), i have to power on again then everything is ok again.

Maybe the xml configuration file is a little wrong, how can i make it working all the time?
If i remove the acanac voip settings from the d-link adapter, everything is fine and other voip phone will be connected for all days and nites.
I do think something is wrong wiht the xml file of acanac voip phone.

Can someone help me to solve that? I tried several nites to figure it out but failed.

Need help!

Re: Help!!!

Hello,

Thank you for using our services. Unfortunately this sounds like there is iether something wrong with your ATA or you are behind a firewall that is acting up. If so try and put your ata in front of the firewall. If you do not have one you may need to use another ata.

Equipment needed for VOIP from Acanac?

What is needed to use this service? Would a simple headphones and mic be enough? Can it work with a VOIP router later on?

Re: Equipment needed for VOIP from Acanac?

You can start just with headphones and mic. You will also need to install your free soft phone. At any time you can buy an ATA and use it with a regular Analog phone.

Yeah, the software is pretty good. After a while you might get annoyed with having to make a call from your computer but you could then either use a bluetooth setup (dongle/headset) or use an ATA (a little device that plugs into the internet on one side and plugs into your normal telephone on the other).

Some of these adapters allow you to use them on any PC software (i.e. MSN messenger voice chats, yahoo chats, etc). If that is the case then it should work through the VOIP software you can install on your phone. However, I recommend just getting an ATA adapter (like the Linksys PAP2) as they aren't much more and a lot easier to use (since you don't need your computer on)
