Xtra happy?

Happy with the broadband service Telecom/Xtra provide?

I'm not. The quality has degraded severely over the last six months, with increasing packet-loss and erratic pings, to the point where on-line games are unplayable. Complaining to the help-desk has proven futile.

Their explanation is that the problem is allegedly due to an extremely high number of new customers signing up. So, they get all these new customers, don't scale up the network, contention ratios go through the roof, existing customers experience deteriorating service, but profits increase so that's fine?

My only hope is appears to be that LLU and Naked DSL will eventually be available in my area. How many months or years away is yet to be seen. After being told "You are welcome to move to another ISP" I look forward to doing so, when that will give me access to a network other than Telecom's. If I were to do that today I would just be adding a middle-man between myself and Xtra.

Anyone else out there noticed similar problems?

I see a couple of other Xtra subscribers doing regular line-quality tests which highlighted lossy routers early on. It seems strange that external line-quality test results seem to be getting better but tracerts from my side show the problem is as bad as ever. Call me paranoid but could they have adjusted the routers to respond better to upstream pings from test sites while still dropping up to 85% of subscriber's packets?
