anyone getting 3 meg service

I spoke to Iowa Telecom a few days ago and they said they do offer 3 meg service.
I forgot to ask the price. Do any of you get it and if so, how much is it?

Static or Dynamic IP

I just got DSL and have had the same IP since it was turned on. I've tried rebooting the Moden/router and rebooting computer.

Re: Static or Dynamic IP

Sorry forgot question. If it was static wouldn't they brage that it is. Could it be dynamic but there are so few users that when I renew my IP I just get my old one back. I've left it off over night.

My IP address has only changed once over the past year. I always get the same one also.
I had some slow upload speeds about a month ago. After they fixed them, I had a new IP

NAT Frustrations

I have a relatively new Iowa Telecom DSL connection through a Netopia 2240 series modem. My internet connection is then routed to several computers through a Linksys wireless router. I'm pretty sure that the Netopia is also doing NAT, as is my router. This is causing some havoc with internet games. I can't seem to login to my Netopia to see if I can add some port forwarding options. Is there a generic user/password combination for the modem configuration, or does Iowa Telecom lock that away from it's users?

Re: NAT Frustrations

did you get this resolved? The netopia does use a password and needs to be run in bridged mode so you don't get double dhcp.
IM me for the password

Also, you will have to go to a web site to get your machine access to the system. ie hardware registration

»69.66.0.19 here you will enter your user name and password they gave ya. Or you can just clone your mac address.

high latency

anyone else with iowa telecom have high latency. i know i live in small town iowa, but cmon jeez, we are way behind the times with 1.5mbps max. i have a friend in creston that gets in the high 10's low 20's off his first hop, and mine is always more than 70ms. ive tried calling them and everytime they dont know what im talking about or what to do. has anyone else tried to complain?

Re: high latency

Yup. Huge latency issues, here.

Tech support is clueless. It's actually gotten worse since I've got the line, so I know it's not just where I live. Online gaming is hopeless, and for some reason YouTube just won't wok, anymore.

It's either Iowa Telecom or satellite, though. I'm stuck.

i got to talk to a level 2 tech support, the guy was a moron, and he basically told me they dont care about people that play online games, just as long as you can surf the web and check your email. he told me those ping times were normal, what a joke.

Iowa telecom search hijacking

I have noticed lately that when doing searches from the main address bar the results would come back as "powered by Yahoo" even though yahoo was not my provider.

At the bottom right of the page is a link (about this page) explaining I misspelled etc something. "microsoft" and was sent to this provider.
results: »wwww15.sitefindservice.net/searc···&ri=V3ry

About the Search Results Page

The search results on the prior page were provided to you because you entered keywords or an improperly formatted, currently unavailable, or nonexistent domain name into the address bar. This service is designed to enhance your web surfing experience.

No software was installed on your computer for this service to work

You can opt out by following the link.
But if you delete your cookies, you will have to do the opt out again.

Personally, I don't think they should be allowed to hijack searches when the word is spelled correctly. Also, the opt out should be on the main page results.

No Plans for Fiber

I was listening to their conference call todayand their CEO mentioned that they have no plans for fiber in any of their markets!
yet, they serve towns with 5000 - 15,000 people in them and they can do it?
What a sorry company

Re: No Plans for Fiber

What I should have said was they CAN'T deploy to their Markets?

Maybe that will change with Mediacom's DOCSIS 3.0 offerings.

Re: Iowa Telecom Sold to Windstream. Thoughts?

Part of me fells bad for the employees, people will be let go but on the other hand they needed this to remain competitive. Looking at there website the minimum speed I see is 3Mb all the way to 12 Mb with the upload at 768K (I think) I wonder though what happens to the 15 Mb people? As IWA had (has) 15 Mb profiles?

Netopia password.

I called and they gave me the username and password to use bridge mode.

user: admin
pass: zaqw1234

FWIW I got an HTC Touch Pro2 from US Cellular and using the Internet sharing on it via USB while connected through EVDO feels faster than the 1.5 DSL connection in Seymour.

Pulse Telecom - any reviews?

Hi. My name is Sorensen, I was recently relocated to the USA and I am looking for a long distance phone company to call my relatives and my friends from Norway and Sweden, Europe. Someone told me that Pulse Telecom could be an option. Any reviews for this provider?
Thanks.
