phart79 join:2007-07-07 Kitchener, ON | New to Velcom and having Outlook send issue Hi, my problem is that as soon as I put in Velcom's SMTP server "mx1.velcom.ca" into my Microsoft Outlook settings, I start having problems sending email to certain addresses. When I try sending to hotmail, it either gets bounced back or it appears to send but never actually arrives. Hours of customer support have gotten me nowhere, they are blaming Hotmail but if I put my Sympatico SMTP server back in, everything works perfect again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Customer support has given up on me so I'll have to go to another ISP if I can't get this issue licked.
|
| 1 edit | Re: New to Velcom and having Outlook send issue That's strange. mx1.velcom.ca works fine for me.
You should probably post this in the Canadian Broadband forum where more people will see it. As you can tell few people know about the Velcom forum.
|
| | | Hello Phart79,
Sorry for catching this post now usually there isn't much activity on this forum as our customers and a lot of people are not aware of it.
I believe the issue for your email has been fixed as it was a filtering issue from hotmail.

1 edit | DSL is offline Hi Velcom. I have been experiencing some DSL connection problems. What happens is the DLS light on my modem suddenly turns off and I cant get an IP address anymore for a while (24 hours or so). Restarting the modem does not help and the wiring is proper as well, since I've tried it in several locations in my apartment. This happens almost sporadically for the last two weeks. I have opened a ticket, however I'm not sure if it would help. I live in Bathurst & Sheppard area. Now I'm wondering maybe it could have been some hardware upgrades in my area that would explain this problem. Another question is I have a modem leftover from Bell. Speedstream 5200 was wondering if I could use that instead of the modem Velcom provided? Thanks.
|
| | | Re: DSL is ofline Bell/Velcom should be able to resolve the problem through the ticket.
What modem did you get from Velcom? If it's the Speed Touch 516 keep using that. It's one of the best modems out there. Your Bell modem will also work.
|
| | | Re: DSL is offline Hi Irafarl,
I am sorry to hear you are experiencing some problems with your account however I am not able to pull up your account since I do not have the information to allow me and investigate it further. You can PM your information if you would like.
With your old Bell modem you should not run into any problem if you would like to use it with Velcom.

Greetings: I experience a dramatic drop in bandwidth during evening hours from 6:00pm to Midnight. Sometimes, it dips to between 500-700 kbps from a daytime average of 3600 kbps. I am told, it is a Bell Canada problem. But what is the problem? I have not received an answer yet. It is particularly important to me, because it affects my Skype phone system. Although I don't make very many calls, I use it mainly in the evening. Any feedback appreciated.
|
| | | Re: Poor Bandwidth evenings Hello Dmarzahl,
I'm not sure if you came across this thread:
»Velcom Slow?
However the following is the reply from VelcomRob:
quote: We are new to the DSL arena and didn't really know what sort of ratio we could use in regards to customers versus capacity. This is why we went by their guidelines. We've learned from this mistake. We have no intention to oversubscribe. Trust me if we could be upgraded yesterday we would be.
I think many people at Bell hate me now because it took an e-mail to them saying I would have a letter sent from my lawyer if there was no updates. There was a point where I emailed them 5 times for a status update and nobody would reply to us. Why? I have no idea. Their support is very awkward. So then I had to say if I get no reply our next reply would be from our lawyer. Then they replied with a 5 week timeframe.
Bell took 1 month just to tell us an install date. It's ob surd.
We are trying to find something we can use as a temporary solution such as logins elsewhere.
I apologize for the inconvenience. Once we get through this it will surely never happen again.

Believe me, there is no love lost for Bell. In this situation, I can't do anything about it personally. To be fair, I can live with my current daytime performance. It's the evening, which consistently has been a problem. (Kids downloading movies??). Hopefully, it can be fixed soon.
|
| | | | | Re: Poor Bandwidth evenings Hello Dmarzahl,
Not a problem. The explanation and that thread are from 2007 of August/September this year.
It's unfortunate that we need to wait on bell for this update however this issue should be resolved within the next few weeks. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing during the night hours however once everything is fixed you will no longer be experiencing these issues.

| | | Matt, you've been helpfull but this is getting worse and worse each passing day.
I started at a 3mbit profile, then 6mbit profile, and now 5mbit profile.
But doesnt matter, I went from 600KB/s, to 500KB/s (Profile Change), to 400KB/s, and 300KB/s and now lucky if I get 250KB/s download. Support offered me a Acanac login, to which was useless due to Acanac having massive DoS and Routing issues.
I'm getting sad with this, I understand you are new, and a lot of this is bell, but I know other resellers are not having this issue.

| | | Speed issues here as well. I started at 2.5MB/s then got bumped up to a decent 5MB and now I'm back to 2.5...all in the space of 5 days...Tech support says it's a bell issue and sales says its upgrades that both velcom and Bell need to do and that are happening over the next few days...
who to believe? the end result is that right now I still have crappy speed by any terms...

I thought this speed issue was resolved in Sept!

I just signed up, Matt knows me. I noticed that your price says 26.95 per month, for the first three. But alas, I'm paying 29.95, I just checked my bill.
Monthly payment for service for period from 2007-10-25 to 2007-11-25 (Type: monthly, Date: 2007-10-25) Amount Payment for service Res 5.0 DRY DSL B $37.50 GST tax for DSL service $2.25 Total $39.75
Also, you guys sent me the sync results (Thank you), but you didnt include what Band Rate I am at.
Thanks, Ryan Ward | |
|
| 1 edit | Re: Pricing Promotion Hi Ryan,
The $26.95 a month is a promtional price that we offer for the first 3 months to cutomers signing up for regular DSL not DRY DSL. The Rate Band you fall under is Rate Band B. I apologize if there was a confusion.

| | Velcom Forum?? Who knew Velcom had its own forum under "Companies beginning with V". This forum should be placed under Canadian ISP's, instead of the Velcom thread under Canadian Broadband. | |
|
| | | Re: Velcom Forum?? It should be but the people from DSLR have told us it doesnt generate enough traffic to do so. | |
|
| | | Hello Asif9t9,
Thank you for the post here . The thing is, Velcom in general does generate some or quite a bit of discussion in the Canadian Broadband section. I'm sure if the others knew about this part of the forum they would most likely post here as well.
I guess until we generate more traffic here or at Canadian Broadband we won't be listed under the Canadian ISP's.

| | | | Re: Velcom Forum?? I wanted to find a Velcom forum to see what speeds other people are getting. I'm in Oakville, and I'm getting an average of 4300/675. Is this as good as it gets? Are these numbers which other people would be happy to have?
I'm asking because I really don't know. I saw in another DSL thread a guy posted he was getting like 4600DL, and other people were all "sweet man, I wish I had that speed".
I guess I figured since I was living in a fairly new area in Oakville (Dundas/Trafalgar), I'd be closer to 5000DL.
My plan was to set myself up with Velcom's hardware (I have the cheap BroadXent modem), and make sure my speed was as high as it could be. Then I'd shop around for a router/modem to purchase.
|
| | | | | Re: Velcom Forum?? Hello Asif9t9,
Considering Velcom and all other wholesalers are providing an up to 5 Meg service you are getting very good speeds. Also, since DSL is a PPPoE service after authentication there is some overhead or packet loss.
I just ran a sync rate test on your line and you currently have the full 5056/800 profile.
You're actually not too far from me. I am off Trafalgar and Derry in the new development area and I'm getting the same speeds.

| | Question about land line I'm in the process of deciding whether to switch to Velcom from Rogers. I've provided my circuit number to Velcom - because I'm on Rogers Home Phone (formerly Sprint). My one concern is that if there is an issue with service, do you guys go to Bell or deal with Rogers?? | |
|
| | | Re: Question about land line Hi OttawaRogers,
We would go through Bell for the provisioning of the circuit. The only thing we need from Rogers is the circuit number. We go through Bell to do the rest. Hope this has answered your question.

However, over the last 1 or 2 weeks, service reliability has been terrible. I have had constant dns server problems, slow crawling speeds (not phone line related), and authentication server error messages. I'm sure they're fixing these problems as we speak but it's been pretty bad lately. Same here, although it's likely Bell's fault. It drops connection out of the blue while I'm on the internet. Sometimes browsing goes out first but I can still get email which is odd! Then I lose connection entirely. I haven't bothered calling tech support because it usually comes back on in a short while but my connection was out from 10:00 pm until 4:30 am tonight. Are you in Toronto by any chance? I'm at Dundas West and Bloor.

| | Velcom webhosting?
First, Im happy with velcom, I switched to them about two months ago.
I was searching google for web hosters and I saw "www.velcom.com" on the right by sponsored links. I raised my eyebrows lol Interesting, I didnt know about this, and the enterprise package is sounding good. After about 6 years, we're finally ready (not that Im an expert on setting up or making sites)I hope to set up site again. Does velcom have some horrible program *coughlikebellmademeusecough* that Id have to use to pretty much do everything like email and uploading? All my work is done on Mac. I don't remember what else I wanted to ask.
Thanks | |

| | | Re: Velcom webhosting? Hello AgentKiwi,
First I would like to say that we're happy to hear that you are happy with our Internet Service. For the web site hosting I believe it would be best if you were to e-mail sales@velcom.com since this is a separate division in the company which handles; Virtual Hosting, Dedicated Servers and Colocation.
From my knowledge for the Virtual Hosting we provide the control panel "DirectAdmin" which makes it easy for users to manage and administrate their web site.
If you have any other hosting questions please e-mail sales@velcom.com

Aurelian join:2008-06-22 Richmond Hill, ON | DSL Service Down Hi There. I just recently signed up with Velcom. I received my modem and Bell came to install the Dry Loop DSL while I was out of my house. So I connected the modem up and I get a solid DSL sync light, called Velcom to find out my username and password and then tried to log onto the network. I was able to log on successfully, but although I received an IP address I am unable to ping anything other than my assigned IP. No luck in pinging the DNS server or anything else for that matter. I called Velcom up 3 times but they said that the problem is that the Bell network is experiencing outages but this has been 3 days ago and I checked the Bell network and they said everything is fine so I'm not sure where to go from here. Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA.

| | Can't hear support?
I don`t know if its my antique cell phone,Velcom's phone system or maybe just 30 years of mixing live music, but I have real difficulty hearing the support staff at Velcom.I find the person I am talking to is barely audible, but I can usually hear other support staff clearly in the background. There seems to be some kind of noise gating/delay which just adds to the confusion, my last attempt took several minutes for the tech to get my correct phone number as we kept "stepping on" each others conversation. Then the tech forgot to put me on hold when they went to check the account and I had to listen to another support call in the background, which I suppose is less annoying than having to listen to the "music on hold". I am in Guelph and have not had cell reception issues since the late`90's and I don`t have audibility issues on other calls. Anybody?
