unofficial first message ?

unofficial first message in the unofficial CallCentric forum? I thought there would be a bunch of them here by now.

I have a no cost access with them but no deposits yet so no calling any PSTN numbers. If you want to test CallC with me, PM me with your number and time zone. I am eastern. (-5 nov to Mar)

I, too found the email assistance very good with CallCentric. They don't officially support asterisk but helped me still. Then when it was all said and done, it was my extensions.conf file that had the error causing the problems.

Re: unofficial first message ?

Hey great a callcentric forum at last!

I am a free user at the moment too. I use X-Lite softphone, but I am hoping to unlock my old Vonage device to use it with Callcentric.

I haven't made any deposits yet to call PSTN either, & other than the test call, which sounded ok, I don't know how reliable they are.

I did a tracert to callcentric.com from here in Canada & after about 10 hops it times out. I don't know if that will make a difference when making calls, though.

It was the price that attracted me, because I don't do many outgoing calls & have little incoming, so a pay-as-you-go provider seemed the best bet. Based on my recent call history I could theoretically pay as little as $8 Canadian a month for service; I currently pay $22 for Vonage.

Their e-mail support is very fast & they seem genuinely eager to help.

I will probably pony up the cash soon to give them a try, because it could save me a bunch of cash.

Re: unofficial first message ?

Trust me...it's worth it. Crystal clear calls to everywhere I have called. I called the Caribbean many times. Keep in mind though that the call quality goes both ways...so if you ever experience something, it could be the person you're calling

I went ahead and got one of the dirt cheap numbers and put $5 bucks on my account with callcentric just to test it out. I unlocked my old Vonage device and set it up according to the support section on the callcentric site. I have a Linksys RTP300 and I found alot of good info in the Vonage forum here on DSLReports for this ATA. So far I am very impressed with the service. The sound quality is as good as Voip gets. The nice this about having full control over the ATA, is that you can make adjustments yourself. For example, I had to change the codec it was using because i was trying to send faxes with it. It was nice not having to call anyone to do it.

I just tried out Callcentric yesterday. I'm leaving VoiceStick behind.

I set up the X-Lite softphone as well as outside dialing. I'm using a computer table top mic. On the receiving end there is a good bit of echo. The X-Lite Help Forum had many posts regarding this. A USB headset is supposed to cure this.

Question ???

Does setting up my ATA and using a real telephone cure the echo ? Need to know. I'd like to port my number to Callcentric.

The Callcentric user interface / Dashboard is excellent. For me It'll be worth the $5-$6 / month base rate for all the info and features. I'm also getting excellent support via e mail in minutes to an hour.

Re: Callcentric ?

Love the Customer Service!! I don't about that echo issue you were referring to....I have never had it. Apart from a slow or choppy connection, it might be something to do with the codec that is used. On the website they advise you use a specific codec (which most ATAs have support for):

Using SunRocket Gizmo With Callcentric

I have been trying to configure the router I got from SunRocket (AC-211)

So far all I've been able to do is screw it up totally. I finally found a way to unlock the router but the settings that Callcentric told me to use don't work.

If anyone has successfully configured one of these routers, please post some "simple" instructions.

Thanks!

Re: Using SunRocket Gizmo With Callcentric

I'm successfully using the SR-211-SR with Callcentric. Do you have full access to all the adapters menus - such as SIP and CODECS? What settings did they give you - are you talking about the dialplan? If so, read the Callcentric review in my profile which shows what I'm using.

Here's the instructions I got from Callcentric:

Nov 4, 2007 06:14 AM | Customer service
Hello,

We are currently working on a guide for this device to add to our support section, hopefully we'll have that up soon.

Assuming you were able to unlock the device, and have disabled auto provisioning(which is probably why it reverted back to Sunrocket), please use the following configurations from within your web configurations:

In your SIP settings enter the following:

1 - Line1:

User/Phone Num = 1777xxxxxxx (hidden)
Port = 5062
AEC On = On
Authentication User Name = 1777xxxxxx (hidden)
Password = The password you configured when creating your account.

2 - Dial plan:

(>#|[3469]11|1[2-9]x.T|[2-9]x.T|011[2-9]x.T|00[2-9]x.T|**275*x.T|*xx.T)

Save your settings now

In your SIP extensions please set the following:

1 - set "SIP Session Timer value (sec):" to 3600
2 - set "SIP Registration Timer value (sec):" to 2600
3 - Check "Send RTP on 183 Session Progress"

Save your settings now

Then unplug your device for 20 seconds and plug it back in. Once plugged it connect to the 192.168.251.1 address and log in. Wait at least 10 seconds and you should see that your devices "Voice" light is not lit up.

_____________

Now I have a router that does absolutely nothing. I just sent another trouble ticket to Callcentric.

"Now I have a router that does absolutely nothing." is pretty vague. Do the lights come on? Do you hear a dial tone? I have similar setup except my dialplan differs from what they gave you, and my adapter works.

Re: Using SunRocket Gizmo With Callcentric

Sorry, that last message is pretty vague.

After following the directions from Callcentric, the router looks as though it's booting up normally. The LED's for Ready and Power come on first. Then the Mgmt light blinks. The Voice light never lights up.

I haven't started another trouble ticket with Callcentric but that's next.

SIP Server Settings
No Voice Light or Dial-Tone is not a problem with the dialplan they gave you. I tried it on mine and it "works" but it doesn't allow me 7 or 10-digit dialing though.

Check to see that your SIP Server Settings match mine as shown in the attached screenshot.

If those are okay I'd suggest double-checking your "Line 1" settings in the SIP menu, and your WAN and LAN settings.

EDIT: After you "Save" your settings you must Reset your Voice Adapter.

Re: Using SunRocket Gizmo With Callcentric

Great info. I'm glad they finally posted a page for the AC-211.

I need to upgrade my software because I have the problem where it won't disconnect if an outgoing call goes unanswered, and it went unresolved when I contacted support. They also haven't updated their info with the Dial Plan that I sent them that works for 7, 10 or 11-digit dialing. And finally, I've found the G711U codec sounds best - though uses the most bandwidth.

Re: Using SunRocket Gizmo With Callcentric

Well... I still have some unresolved problems.

I just discovered that I can make outgoing calls but incoming calls aren't going through.

I believe my GIZMO needs the firmware updated as Callcentric suggested. The problem there is, I can't get the device to go into Download mode. When I have attempted to do that it errors out, giving me no option to recover.

I have the firmware files if I can find a way to get them uploaded to the device.

Re: Using SunRocket Gizmo With Callcentric

Oh... my bad.

The phone number that Callcentric supplies is not for outgoing calls. There is a minimal fee to get a phone number.

For my purposes, a number that someone can call is not important. That's what I have a cell phone for.

Have you tried emailing the support group for CallCentric ? They are quite helpful.

Maybe you are trying to put up some "wrong" chars in the dial plan? Try a simple dial plan first, can it be sent to InnoMedia? If so then keep trying to add one or two features at a time and upload. When it fails then you found the 'illegal' chars.....

I have an InnoMedia but it is locked to net2phone, so I can't try anything for you.

The upload feature on that device is disabled. You'll need to update the dial plan through telnet. The user manual for the device has the appropriate telnet commands.

Service evaluation after more than a month's use

Hi. As the subject title shows this is an overview of the Callcentric service that I have for more than a month now.

1) I have not had a lot of experience with other VoIP providers, except Skype and one from overseas, so I cannot compare Callcentric with other North American companies.
(BTW, I am in Canada)

2) I chose Callcentric because from user reviews seemed to be the most stable (albeit not the least expensive) and there were not any complaints on the quality.

3) I use an ATA (PAP2T-NA). I use one of its lines for my Callcentric account and the other for that overseas one (for which I have a DID). It was a breeze to set it up (Callcentric has a help page on how to do that. I do not recall whether it is for the PAP2T, but the SPA2102 is similar.) And, responding to a question from previous message, using the laptop speaker and mike will create a lot of echo. Use either a headset or a regular telephone through an ATA.

4) So far I have been very happy with the service. I have put $15 (I think) into this account till now, of which most has been used for overseas calls and my wife's calls to N.America (I still have Skype NA unlimited for that, but needing a computer, its WAF is down to zero!) All the calls
I have made were excellent quality. The only problem I would note here is that a couple of times that I called an overseas mobile number I was charged a minute for each call, although I was sure that the other end did not answer my call. Now if it were a land line, I would not mind it (it is only 2 cents), but a mobile is charged 20-30 cents a minute... it makes you not to want to try another mobile call.

5) DID: I have not purchased any yet. I may do it at some point. Both prices (per incoming minute or unlimited) are reasonable. At least here in Canada we do not have to pay for the 911 service. OTOH, its lack of 911 makes it no suitable substitute for a landline. So, I still have the latter, but maybe a second line is useful.

6) I have posted about this in another forum, but I have not got specific replies to it. As I noted above, currently I have the unlimited NA Skype service. As this expires in a month or two, and I do not want to renew it with skype I looked for a Callcentric similar offer. The closest I found was $19.95 per month. Now, personally, I find it too expensive. What is your opinion? For a comparison, I would say that (here in Canada, at least) Primus Broadband has a plan that includes number (i.e. DID), unlimited incoming, basic 911, hardware (ATA), and unlimited NA calling for $19.95. So, how many of you have this callcentric plan and what is the rationale for that purchase? There must be something that escapes me.

PS. So that you do not ask me with another post:
WAF: Wife Acceptance Factor (I saw it in one of the forums somewhere. I liked it so I use it.)

Re: Service evaluation after more than a month's use

Sorry, correction:

The Primus (Canada) NA plan is $29.95 (perhaps, I was still thinking of the old value of the CDN$ ), but there is a discount of $4 if you have your own device.

For the amount of our long distance/2nd local line usage my family and small business uses, the Pay Per Call (outgoing) and Pay Per Minute (incoming) rates made the most sense for me. We don't call internationally. For outgoing if I used over 1000 minutes/month it would make sense to go to an unlimited plan - but we use only about 1/2 of that. I like the flexibility of Callcentric's plans.

Re: Service evaluation after more than a month's use

I am on the same page with you here. I also like the flexibility in rates of Callcentric. If I get a DID, I would have it, initially at least, at pay-per-use. However, what would you think if they had a plan for $9.95 (say) unlimited incoming and unlimited NA outgoing. Perhaps, the latter could be capped at 400/500/1000 minutes, or something like that that would make sense to them, as well.

(No, I am not Callcentric employee, trying to get clients' reaction. I just give them some ideas )

I can confirm this as of last week. Symptoms were a redirect to the login screen every time I logged in. I deleted the *callcentric* cookies and that fixed it.

Deleting cookies is not a big deal to me, so no harm here. I did manage to find some neat click2call cookies. Since I couldn't seem to script c2c using http GET commands, I may try some cookie hacking.

Cheers.

fax reception setup

How doe's fax reception work ?

Does callcentric recognize a fax call ?
Will it be detected when a call goes to voice mail ?
Are call treatments necessary meaning I need another DID for inbound faxes ?

thx

Service has been great so far.

vik

@cox.net

Re: fax reception setup

I should have qualified this as the Callcentric "fax reception service".

anon8230

@leggmason.com

You have to set up call treatments, so if you want a number than can always receive faxes, you need to set up another DID and forward all calls to fax. Without adding a DID, if you know somebody is sending you a fax, ask them for their fax number and make a custom call treatment forwarding all calls from that number to fax.

Usage Outside of USA

Does anyone use CallCentric outside of the USA? I LOVE the service but would only rate the call quality at 50. There is a distinct echo/delay, no matter who originates the call and the time of day.

I'm located in Europe and my ping to their ping server is consistently between 130-140ms. My DSL is 768 down/256 up so I think my up/down speeds are good; my latency is the killer (I think).

Just curious if anyone else uses this service outside of USA and what quality level they experience.

Thanks.

calls via Callcentric limited to 2 hours?

Hope someone will read this and can respond. I've been a Callcentric member since early April, and I love the service. I got it as a backup to my skype out, so that when folks call me I'll see their caller ID, something that doesn't always happen on skype.
Anyway, last night, while chatting with a friend of mine, the call without warning dropped, and at first I thought it was my internet connection. I quickly realized it was not, as nothing else I was doing was disrupted. I called my friend again and finished our call, but then I had a look at the duration of the call that dropped, and it showed 120 minutes. So today, I as a test, called my skype in number from my callcentric line, and kept the call connected. Sure enough, at exactly 2 hours, the call was dropped, just as my call last night was. I use an asterisk box for the callCentric connection. I subscribe to the North America unlimited plan, as well as having a dirt cheap DID incoming phone number. The asterisk box shows no errors when the call suddenly drops. It's as if the other side just hung up normally, which in both cases did not happen.
I want to run some other tests, such as determining if inbound calls to my DID also only last 2 hours per call. Has anyone else using callCentric that had a need to yak on the phone for a long while discovered that their call dropps suddenly after exactly 2 hours?
Or is there some hidden timer I should look at in my asterisk box that could be causing this? Other direct ip to IP calls I make to other asterisk boxes via IAX2 do not have this problem. Thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated.

Re: calls via Callcentric limited to 2 hours?

My gut feeling is that it's not Callcentric dropping the call. Their customer service is very responsive and it wouldn't hurt to ask.

This does sound like a timer running down. This can be happening on your firewall. Depending on what you have, you may be able to see the timers in the configuration. Could be a NAT translation expiring or SIP inspection timer. If not, try a search on your make/model to see if others have seen the same problem.

Re: calls via Callcentric limited to 2 hours?

After yet a third test today using a softphone directly connected to the internet with no firewall in place, I've been in contact with Callcentric, since just as before my call dropped after exactly 120 minutes.
Here is callCentric's response, which I gotta say was quite quick.
"There is a timer that drops all calls automatically after 120 minutes, this is primarily to prevent stuck calls from draining an accounts balance. At this time there is no way to change this and stuck calls are not common however when one does happen it can last until you either figure out what's wrong or we cancel the call which can be hours."
I'm glad to know that the issue is in fact a callcentric one, however it would be nice if they included something about this on their web site. Perhaps they could implement a feature where the timer would be on by default, but the customer could have the option of turning it off, or even adjusting it to meet their call durations. I love everything about callCentric, except this, which there's no mention of anywhere on their site. This is a CallCentric feature I don't like, mainly because there's no way for the customer to have control of it. So if you ever plan to be on the phone longer than 2 hours, callCentric is not for you it would appear.

Re: calls via Callcentric limited to 2 hours?

Wow this is very disturbing. So is there no VOIP provider that can accept sip that will allow calls greater than 120 minutes? I wonder if there's any way to know what upstream carriers providers connect with? Skype for example, though not a sip provider, does seem to allow for calls of many hours, as I had a chat with a friend for nearly 10.5 hours one time just to test it. I can see the reasoning for such a timer, but having it be customer controlable would be nice, as 2 hours seems a bit short. I'd personally set it to like 4 hours or something like that, or have an option to turn the timer off per call. I guess my next test will have to be to make an internal callcentric call and see if the timer exists that way, or if it's only when going out to PSTN.

Is there a limit on how long any call I make will last?

All calls, inbound and outbound, are limited to 120 minutes (One Hundred and Twenty Minutes). The main reasons behind this policy is to protect against mis-billing and fraud.

We are also limited by the industry standard 120 minute/2 hour call limit. Most carriers, both international and domestic, set this limit on their network for similar fraud/billing reasons and as such we also limit calls on the Callcentric network to the 120 minute standard for interoperability reasons.

If you are disconnected on a call you may simply place your call again.

New to CallCentric

I just signed up yesterday for per minute DID. It took me a few tries to configure the ATA, but I got it working. It took about 3 hours between trouble report and reply. Right now I am still waiting for an answer of how I use the Cost per Minute for outgoing or the price. I am fine so far because it has worked every time I have used it. I can not say that for the other service that I have.

I'm not really clear on what you are referring to. Incoming and Outgoing plans are selected (ordered) separately.

Outgoing plans with the rates: »www.callcentric.com/rate/plans/

On the dashboard, it will show what your incoming and outgoing plans are. If you don't have an outgoing plan, click on "View details and modify your products here" and add one.

Billing, billing, anyone know the billing?

Ok, here's the setup, I have CallCentric set to recharge my account with $10 when the balance reaches $10. My monthly billing is $5.95, this month it took $4.55 from my balance and charged $1.40 to my credit card leaving a balance of $10.45 in my account. NOTE: I do not use CallCentric to place calls. I signed up with them to preserve an old NetZero Voice number when they went bellyup.

I posted a ticket to CallCentric and they are saying my account is NOT ALLOWED to go below the threshold and made it sound like that amount is inviolate. If that's the case, why have it? What I expected is for the system to take the entire amount from my balance and then recharge the account with the specified amount. If I've done the math correctly they should only need to hit my credit card every 2-3 months and then for only $10.

Is there any reason to let CallCentric just sit on money and not use it?

Re: Billing, billing, anyone know the billing?

I don't know if it's new or I just happened to hit it this month, too.

Recharge low balance is set to $5.00

My DID is $1.95 / month. My billing this month was...

Billed from Credit card: $ 1.65
Billed from Balance: $ 0.30

That took me down to exactly $5.00. The instant I used minutes and dropped below $5, auto recharge kicked in.

So, it appears that reoccurring charges can not dip below the low balance limit. You can go under by using minutes, but not reoccurring charges.

It makes no sense and it's not the way others do it, but it appears to be the Callcentric way. I agree that it's effectively unusable money. Drop the low balance from $10 to $5 and let them hit the card each month, if that's how they want to play.

How do you know what their phone number is? The caller ID you see is certain to be spoofed!

Directing them to a busy signal really doesn't harm the telemarketer. They are calling several #'s at the same time and will talk to first one that picks up.

If you want to punish them, then waste THEIR time. Ask them to hold on for a sec, put them on hold, then walk away.

OR:

Just turn the tables on THEM!

Say THANKS FOR CALLING! WE SELL VACATION TIME SHARES! CAN I INTEREST YOU IN ONE!

or say

THANKS FOR RESPONDING TO MY AD! HOW MANY PAINTINGS DID YOU WANT TO BUY? GIVE ME YOUR NAME AND CREDIT CARD #.

or say

DARN YOU, WE WERE JUST HAVING SEX! NOW WE HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN! SAY, MAYBE YOU WANT TO JOIN IN BY PHONE!

Telemarketers cannot deal with those type of responses.

Callcentric lowered 911 charges

Beginning October 1, 2008 Callcentric has lowered the fees it charges to recover the costs associated with development, provisioning and servicing emergency [911] calls.

This obligatory (no opt out for US residential subscribers] service is provided in accordance with May/2005 and Nov/2005 FCC's rulings.

New (since Oct. 1st, 2008) E911 fee schedule:
There is one time setup fee of $1.50 followed by monthly (recurring) fee of $1.50.

Please note - these fees (for the E911 service) are charged ONLY if/when the subscriber admits that he/she has US postal residential address. Only the US address is relevant. Our foreign customers are neither obligated nor charged nor provided with E911 service (with [soon to be deployed] exception of Canada - please see below).

For those who don't remember/know - tho E911 recovery fees used to be $2.03 for setup and $2.37 monthly.

An upcoming event:

Callcentric is at a final phase of preparing its infrastructure and provisioning systems to provide E911 service to Canadian subscribers (in accordance with CRTC order). This (Canadian E911) service is currently in BETA stage and is planned to be in production within a few weeks (most likely some when in November). The cost of E911 service for our Canadian subscribers will be the same as it's currently charged to our US based customers ($1.50/$1.50).

simultaneous ring with callcentric?

I just changed my service from Vonage to Callcentric.
The one thing that I really miss from Vonage is
the simultaneous ring feature.

Is there a way with Callcentric to ring both a POT number and a SIP phone at the same, and let the first one to answer take the call?

Re: simultaneous ring with callcentric?

I don't think CallCentric has that feature. You might consider submitting a ticket asking the question. They will probably say no, but they might be able to tell you if they are considering adding the feature at some point.

Hi, been using for over a year.

Hi guys,
Callcentric has been fantastic for me. Local Canadian DID with cheap incoming; fantastic user interface on the website for call administration & brilliant tech support.

I have been so happy with them for my incoming VoIP provider. Absolutely love them & would not switch (Unless some other VoIP provider can give what they can at a cheaper incoming rate - Not likely....).

I can't see me switching anytime soon. They are absolutely top notch. I still can't believe the price I pay for incoming PAYG with Callcentric, amazing...

Callcentric is down?

We currently do not have phone service (our Handytone adapter is flashing red). I can't even get the Callcentric website to come up. Is there a scheduled outage this morning? (Feb. 17 at 4:58 am EST)

This very rare overnight problem was aggressively jumped on by CallCentric and fixed in a few hours.

Service and Support Excellent

CallCentric really gives you great value. I signed up for the PAYG plan, ordered a DID and deposited some money. In playing around I noticed their fax service. This is great. I can use the PAYG for outgoing and set the rules so incoming goes to FAX and now I have voice and fax at a very low rate. I also like their control panel/website. New user, but I am very impressed.

callcentric with x-lite -- ques

I'm a Vonage subscriber who has been playing with CallCentric.

My system:
Fios
Linksys WRTP54G (the locked version)
x-lite v3.0 build 47051 (c)
Mac OS 10.4.11

The issue:
After 'discovering network', it takes x-lite something like a minute to 'register'
Then, when I make a call, it takes x-lite another 60 seconds take start the dialing process.
Once the connection is completed, everything is fine. Good call quality. It just takes forever.

What has your experience been?
I think this is really a question for folks with the same locked router. The tech support people at Callcentric have been very good about trying to help me sort this out (lots and lots of suggestions). They finally threw in the towel and said they think it must be due to my Linksys router being locked. I'm just trying to get confirmation from a third party before I run out and buy a new router (only to find out that the router is NOT the problem!)

Re: callcentric with x-lite -- ques

I've moved up from x-Lite to EyeBeam to connect multiple VoIP services, but it sounds like you might need to tweak your dial plan. I use:
#1\a\a.T|+xxxxxxxxxxxT;match=1;prestrip=2;match=2;prestrip=1
This allows me to use my contact list from Outlook that has +1 numbers from my cell. It's also been reported dialing # at the end of the number may get it to process the call quicker.

Also, have you tried putting your computer before the router (if you can) to see how the service works then? Might help prove if a new router would help.

Roger...

Thanks for that. I found a solution and posted it elsewhere (forgot to come back here and post it).

The kind folks at x-lite helped me sniff it out. They said 'sounds like a DNS relay problem - if you can find it, turn it off'.

Well, in my router configuration setup, there is no 'dns relay' but there is a 'dns proxy'. I disabled it and x-lite is working much better.

I also found a post here on dslreports where someone said to ping my dns before and after. Assuming I did the 'ping' correctly, I didn't see any significant difference.

Now, I'm off to find a decent, cheap ATA for use with CALLcentric!

Need help with new VOIP provider decision

All

I too am one of many looking for a new voip provider due to the Callvantage thing. Due to this I have narrowed it down to the following:

ITP
Callcentric

I wondered what the latest is on your recommendations for either of these. I primarily use this for local and long distance then calls to Europe.

Thanks all WC

3-way and 4-way calling

I have a Sipura 2000 (pap2 or similar) and can't make any 3-way calls.

I dial the first number, hit flash, and dial the second number.
I get a Callcentric error: " callcentric, you can't make 2 outbound calls at the same time" or something similar to this.

Do I have my ATA setup wrongly?

Log into your account dashboard page and under "PREFERENCES" check that "Multiple calls" is set to enabled.

How exactly are multiple "channels" used if the FAQ states "In short, Callcentric does not support registering with multiple user agents (soft and/or hard phones) at the same time."

I thought that by having multiple channels I could have multiple ATA's or softphones hooked up and receive calls for one phone number in multiple locations? If this is not the case, can someone explain the use of mulliple channels?

As I understand it, channels are voice connections with CallCentric. If you have 2 channels then two calls can be handled at the same time. In what I recall reading this includes calls going to VM, so if two callers are leaving you a message, the third caller gets a busy signal until one hangs up.

Some plans allow you to purchase additional channels so if you need more connections, they are available. People running a business with a VoIP PBX would be good candidates.
