 | | SIV Acquires Majority Shares in Sahara Net
Aug 29, 2010 The investment firm Sahara International Ventures NV (SIV) and the leading Internet Service Provider in Saudi Arabia, Sahara Net www.sahara.com revealed on Tuesday August 17th, 2010 that they have reached an agreement whereby SIV has acquired a majority shares in Sahara Net for an undisclosed figure.
Founded by two young entrepreneurs, (Haitham Abu-Aisha and Kais Al-Essa) in 1989, Sahara Net is a leading Internet service provider on the corporate market in Saudi Arabia. The company offers a comprehensive array of services including Internet leased lines, VPN, MPLS, Managed Services and Web Hosting. All offered throughout its branches in Saudi Arabia including major cities such as, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Jubail, Yanbu and Abha.
SIVs investment in Sahara Net comes in line with the current strategy to expand in growing markets within the MENA region and further support and improve the existing operations.
Sahara International Ventures NV is an investment company located in the Netherlands with the objective to further expand in acquiring broadband assets in selected developing countries. SIV is a joint venture between Belgacom NV/SA, the incumbent Belgian telecom operator and Panthers Investments BV, the former majority shareholder of Scarlet NV.

Sahara Net announced the readiness to provide IPv6 based Internet services. |  | | ICANN picks Sahara Net to host DNS Root Server
ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the body responsible for the domain names worldwide as well as the stability of DNS Servers, selected Sahara Net to host its DNS Root Server. Work on DNS Root Server was completed this month, making it the first DNS Root Server in Saudi Arabia. The existence of the server provides the Internet community with better Internet browsing performance. It also helps reduce fears of interruptions as a result of submarine cable cuts. The Root Server hosted in Sahara Net data center is publicly available to all internet users in the Kingdom. Eng. Kais Al Essa, operations director of Sahara Net, said such a pioneering step will improve overall Internet experience in Saudi Arabia. He noted that ICANNs selection of Sahara Net to host the first and only DNS Root Server in Saudi Arabia is further evidence of Sahara Nets lead in the hosting market.
