    Watch out customers

Capunet will tell you no problem with DSL. You wait 30 days to receive the line and then they tell you no DSL.

    Re: Watch out customers

I just had the exact same experience with FlashCom/NorthPoint---except it took 7 weeks, and we had to ask for weekly updates... they had canceled the order during the fifth week and took two more weeks to tell us!

I just called CoVad and placed my order through Capunet... I hope I have better luck.

I ordered 768/384 based on their estimate of the distance to the CO, which turned out to be WRONG! Actual distance would only allow 384/128. Major bummer. They, whoever it was, said 9857'. Actual distance 15200', an error of 54.2%.
    Anon You are correct!!!

I hate CapuNet with a passin for what they put me through...

    What Problems

I ordered DSL over 4 weeks ago, Capunet and Covad are blaming Bell Atlantic for all the problems: no loop installed, voltage on line etc. When I decided to get DSL I found Capunet to be the best in my area, now I don't know. I guess I will have to wait and see.

    Re: What Problems

I can understand your heartburn. Unfortunately Bell Atlantic owns that copper to your house and they are notorious for screwing up orders, disconnecting wrong circuits, etc. I really lucked out. BA provisioned my line correctly so capu.net and covad could do a clean and orderly install.

    CapuNet/Covad/BA install No problems

I had to get a phone line, but once that was done, CapuNet placed the order, and I received timely email updates from CapuNet, and Covad re: the install. BA installed on time. Covad came around less than a week later, and ran the wires to my apartment. The wiring in the building was a mess. The Covad guy did a great job.

CapuNet emailed my my IP settings immediately once the Covad dude notified Covad that the install was complete. I called CapuNet before receiving the email, and everything ran smoothly.

Four weeks, 1.5M ADSL up an running. Line speed has varied from about 300k to very close to 1.5M. I'm not sure what that's about. Except for the weekend when Covad was down, there's only been one outage from the ISP during the two weeks I've had it, and that was for about two hours during an afternoon.

It's not Canada (where the legislated Bell monopoly can get DSL installed, and running in about four days after you order it), but for America where the competitive capitalistic environment makes the world a better place (ha ha ha), I'm not complaining.

So far, so good with Capunet

It took 3 weeks to install. But everything is running really well. Tech support is quick and helpful.

Order 1 meg ADSL and got around 980Kbps according to DSL Reports Speed test.

But now I want to install a second computer on the net and tech guy told me that I need a "cross-over" cable. What the heck is that? How do I even get one?

    Forget the crossover cable...

Check out the equipment and sharing sections of this web site for more info. But the best way to share your DSL line among several computers using capunet/covad is to get a router/sharing device like the linksys (although some folks have reported problems with the linksys), or a Netgear RT311 plus a cheap ethernet hub. IVe also heard good things about the beadlenet (now Watchguard) internet sharing device: »www.beadlenet.com/

    Good luck.

    Happy with Capu.Net and Covad

We originally had Bell Atlantic DSL 1.6/90k. They use PPPoE which is a nightmare. WinPOET software is awful. We have a Linksys Broadband router Model BEFSR41 whick when we originally had BA DSL, there was no PPPoE support. We place Capu.net order and then meanwhile linksys provided a ROM update for the router with PPPoE support. BA worked fine after we stopped using WinPOET and just let the router handle things. Meanwhile, it took 10 weeks to get DSL installed. Capu.net said there was a problem with the line and Bell had been notified. This IS probably true as my experiences with Bell have been nothing short of a nightmare and I am sure Covad has as many problems as I did. Anyway we are now up and running and we are very happy with Capu.net/Covad. They have been professional and courteous in handling everything. The Covad installer was also professional, prompt, and courteous. Overall, other then the long wait for our install (Which I feel Bell was the problem) I have no complaints.

    THEY SUCK!

Very unresponsive to inquiries and services. They did not deliver the complete SDSL package I ordered. Covad installed the line and they think they are done! NO email, NO DNS, NO IPs.. NADA! Who the hell needs an ISP if they can't provide the essentials that make my business work.

    These guys rock

I submitted my order for ADSL service on June 1st.
The entire staff at Capunet was very informative and set my expectations correctly. After seeing all the problems due to Bell Atlantic, I was not sure I would get DSL up any time soon. I was suprised to receive an e-mail on the 6th saying that the phone company would be delivering my line for service on the 9th. I made sure the techs had access to the phone box because my account manager had told me about how they miss dates most of the time.

Well my wife gave me a call at work, and said that our phone is down. I knew that the line had been delivered for service, but had to wonder what is up with Bell that they disconnected my line. So I called the phone company on the same day ( June 9th) and told them my phone was critical, and needed it as soon as possible. Well Bell finally showed up to fix my telephone on Sunday the 11th. If that is Bell's response to critical, I would have been without phone service for a month if it was not critical.

However, the Bell tech did verify the line was taggged, and explained that Bell Atlantic in the DC area is so far behind they were borrowing techs from other areas. ( This guy was from southwest VA).

I notified Capunet of my wife's birthday ( June13th) and that I really wanted to make sure she had DSL in time. The staff at Capunet's Customer Care dept. told me that they will see what they can do.

Capunet, made sure that my line was clean. They also were able to work with me and schedule an appt for final install in time for my wifes birthday. I can not say enough about Capunet. They were there every step of the way to answer my questions. They also were extremely responsive when I had to leave a message. Someone allways returned my call or email by the end ofthe day.

I received an e mail stating that Covad would be out on the 13th to finish the install. The tech that came out (Derek) was really cool. He displayed a sense of professionalism and put me at ease. I was impressed with his knowledge and relative speed of the installation.

My download is consistently in the 520 to 530 range. I am quite happy with this, considering that the rate adaptive only guarantees 128K.

I would highly reccomend Capunet to anyone. The tech support is 24 hours a day. When I needed a little help and called, I spoke with a live body, that really wanted to help me solve my problem. It is so nice to do business with an organization that cares about thier customers.

Yeah they kick ass alright...I placed a move order in April and you had your service before I did. Thanks for keeping on top of Covad's progress Capu.net.

    Alienated Customer in Gaithersburg

I ordered 314K SDSL from CapuNet end of May. BA checked the line June 14 and COVAD installed June 22. Although I get a decent ping rate from some web sites, still cannot use the line; no browsers will work. Have made about 11 telephone calls to resolve issues, to no vail. CapuNet is mystified. COVAD made a (unscehduled) site visit to resolve issues and left a note on the door saying sorry we missed you.

I am getting ready to cancel the order, file a complaint with the State of Maryland AG, and get a cable modem.

    smooth sailing

No problems with Capunet, Covad or GTE.

    Ordered DSL on 6/16/00.
GTE arrived as scheduled on 6/26/00.
Covad arrived as scheduled on 7/5/00.
Capunet kept me up to date every inch of the way, even sending the IP address first thing the morning of the Covad install.

    Couldn't be better so far......

    Re: smooth sailing

Update : Today(8/14/00) I received my Covad rebate, thats only 3 weeks after sending it in. I've been up for over a month with no drop-outs.
Speeds have been good (510-530), except in very peak times when it drops back a bit(400-450).

Capunet made an error on my first bill, I sent an email, and they credited it back within 2 days.

    Still couldn't be better....

    Capunet is Incompetent

I have had constant problems with my DSL service (somebody kept going into the LOCKED phone closet on a monthly basis and plucking out my DSL wires possibly BA????). I do not blame capunet for this. However I do blame Capunet for the way in which they have handled everything. I would drop dead if anybody working there EVER returned any of my calls. It would also surprise my if I EVER got through to tech support. This is what has contributed to the month long outages I have experienced. Their service ran fine when there were no problems, but it was a pain in the ass to fix the problems that arose. Stay away if you think that you will ever have a problem with your service!

    Re: Capunet is Incompetent

I have to agree, while it's not their fault, they're not doing much to correct it. We pay a lot of money for them to be the middle men, and in the last month I've had a 0% uptime. They don't seem to be going to bat for me, and sure as hell aren't calling to update me.

    So far so Good

It took 6 weeks for me to recieve my DSL service.
I came close to getting Telocity, but after reading the reviews and them adding DSL to the wrong line I decided again them. The Capunet Sales guy was very friendly. He continuously called my phone to update me on all problems and to give me status reports. Overall I was very satified with the sales (pre-dsl) customer support. I was treated like a high paying business customer and this was really appreciated. I got the 1500 ($79 per month) service. The install was so-so. Bell Atlantic and Covad oviously don't communicate with each other. I could have had DSL installed within 3 weeks, but because I have 5 lines to my house Bell had to add extra lines to the pole. I was told the line add would take two weeks, instead it took 1 day. Covad was not informed that it was done and my installation that was planned for three days later was cancelled. But this was no fault of Capunet. Overall the install could have gone better with better communication. The tech that installed the modem was very friendly and we had everything installed with 30 minutes. After getting up my DSL service I was only getting 110 service instead of ~1300 (this sucked). My sales guy called the next morning and made sure everything was cool, of course it wasn't. I then called customer support which really didn't have a clue and told me to downgrade my service. (Even though Bell & the Tech said my line was great and I'm 9000ft for the CO) I went on the advice of the sales rep and tried the DSL reports tweaks...THEY REALLY WORK!! my connect speed is ~1100 now and I'm a really happy customer. I hope this euphoria will last. I'm wonder how many customers they might have lost because of the simple fix of upgrading the MTU value in your reg from 576 to 1500. I can't complain yet and I'll know whether this company really rocks like all the post say in around 2 weeks..so I'll be back. All-in-all you definetly can't go wrong with capunet and sales team is grade A.

It does what its supposed to do

Bell Atlantic blew the line install, but managed to fix it during a labor strike.

COVAD installer was here for less than 5 minutes ... 87% of rated bandwidth with no changes. A little TCP hack and I'm up to around 90% of rated bandwidth.

Having to call CapuNet to setup my e-mail account blew a little ... but they did it quickly and correctly, so I won't pick nits.

I run NFS/TCP through two firewalls cross-country and get 100% reliable connectivity and better than 9 KB/s ... for those of you who don't know, that rocks.

    Tech Support Rocked!

CapuNet is on top of the game when it comes to tech and cust. support! I had an outage for a few days (probably due to Covad or BellAtlantic). CapuNet stayed on top of the issue, kept me informed and best of all was available 24x7 to speak to a tech about my issue and status. They work very hard to keep you happy! A+++ for CapuNet. BTW...I also have a FLASHCOM dsl line to my house...as long as you never have to call FLASHCOM, yer cool, otherwise they SUCK! Hope this helps! GO CAPUNET!!!

    Happy Customer

    @capu.net

    CapuNet is G-R-E-A-T.

When I first got ADSL installed I was upset about the latency I was seeing to my first hop. A few months later Covad came up with a solution to fix the problem, and CapuNet got me switched around from Interleaved Mode to Fastpath immediately.

    I went from a 50ms gateway ping to 12ms.

The latency was a deal buster for me, and they were very considerate of my concerns. I tried to get SDSL installed via IBS Networks, since SDSL has very low latency. And even though I was past the 30-day trial period, CapuNet agreed to let me transition over with minimal penalty.

As it turned out, after 5 months, IBS Networks never did complete the install. And whereas CapuNet/Covad let me know when my install would take place AND DELIVERED, IBS/Northpoint always kept me in the dark.

Since Covad fixed my issue, I was more than pleased to cancel my order with IBS. Seeing how they've raised their prices since I placed my order, I imagine they never really did want to fullfill the order.

I've had zero problems reaching Customer Service or Tech Support at CapuNet.

They have a mailing list which reports internet issues and problems.

    Overall, they've been extremely responsive.

You *DO* get what you pay for.
