davork join:1999-08-21 Jersey City, NJ | Coverage far too small! I have Savvis in NJ. They claim to have service pretty much all up the east coast.
They are also run the global (IP based) network for Bridge (a global financial information company) to Bridge's clients.
| | Anon | Savvis Good, But Their Partners Are Not (in LA) I had Savvis contracted to do a whole office in Hollywood. It was 2 months to the first in office install appointment. At that appointment the Rhythms installer, (Savvis' Partner) could not get it up and running. Apparently Rhythms screwed up the order (ISDL instead of SDSL) I was told 48 hours to fix by Rhythms. A week latter I called Savvis and was told that Rhythms was now quoting 2 more weeks. We finally got a date, almost 3 weeks later, and a different Rhythms installer came out. He was from Nigeria and very difficult to understand in English. His knowledge seemed limited as well. He tried to rescript the Netopia Router, with no luck. He replaced the router and sucessfully rescripted it, but still couldn't get the line to work. 3 hours in and I suggest that he checks the copper pair in the phone room. We both go down and spend 1 hour trying to find the pair. He gets the post numbers from Rhythms and we find that PacBell has changed the pair. Once wired we still can't get online and the Rhythms installer leaves, without finishing, because the Savvis deal with Rhythms limits install appointments to 4 hours. I, with great help from Aaron at Savvis, continue the install without the installer. They Rhythms person, conference called in with us, is not a lot of help. She's got 6 other installers calling her and keeps putting Savvis and I on hold. 5 hours into this and I have to leave. I leave them on the call and as I jump on to say goodbye, Aaron at Savvis tells me they just got it sorted out. Rhythms bails off the call and Aaron walks me through all the things that I needed to know to get the whole office up and running.
The bottom line. Savvis is great and so are their people. The weak link, at least in LA, is that their partners, Rhythms, are very inept and customer service doesn't seem to be a strong point.

I have a friend who has Savvis/NorthPoint DSL in his office.
We tested his speed today, when no one was logged into his network, other than his PC, and DSLREPORTS noted his speed as 150/80.
This doesn't sound like any combination I have heard of, and it should be at least 200. He is paying $149 a month for this ?

Savvis has such a smooth operation system that my installs were all great, my clients , and the gaurantees are for real. I used to worry about that extra 50 bucks a month until i had problems. now with Savvis I have no problems, NEVER. Their network is unbelievable and the Texas rep Brad really knows his stuff. I recomend this to all who are looking for SDSL or T1 connectivity with a reliable service and competative price. Go Get Em. SAVVIS

| Anon | Summary: Great Network Service : Mediocre Bells
All ISPS have the good and the bad. Let me say that I joined Savvis basically for one reason: To get off Covad in my regional area. I was sick of 60% uptime records and high latencies on connections. My expectations were simple: for a business DSL dont go down...ever. What I got: 99.9% uptime, great customer service for technical problems (they call me BEFORE my network monitoring pages me) and very low latency on the DSL connection to almost anywhere in the global Internet. DNS requests (changes) are answered promptly and correctly, although once I did catch a typo before it was implemented. I would like to see web interfaces to make some of these changes on my time and not theirs.
What I did not get:
Mail Forwarding(Store and Forward), Web Hosting, and some of the other niceties of a "full service ISP"
With so many people abandoning DSL for a more stable (and more expensive) traditional solution for business connectivity, I would recommend they try Savvis first.
