| Anon | SUCKS This is my first dsl tryout and these people are the worst to deal with. It's been about 60 days and I still haven't got my dsl yet. Avoid this company if possible | |

| | Anon | Re: SUCKS
Agree fully -- I am dropping them. They are THE WORST!!!
|
| | Anon | Concentric is THE WORST, try cancelling your service and making sure that they don't continue to bill you. It took 6 months for me to make sure that they don't continue billing me for service that was cancelled. THEY SUCK THE BIG ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 | |

| Anon | Concentric sucks II
The sign-up process was very good. I got all kinds of information when they were trying to get my business, nothing after. If you read nothing else in this post, read this THEY WILL NOT CALL YOU BACK, THEY WILL NOT RESPOND, THEY WILL NOT DELIVER WHAT THEY SAY, DO NOT SIGN UP WITH CONCENTRIC!
|
| Anon | Stay away
Stay as far away from them as you can. We were with concentric for about a year, and about once a week our internet would go down. They are inpossible to reach for tech support.
|
| Anon | Concentric beats out other options in maryland.
I've had to deal with several providers for dsl, concentric has been my service provider for 3 months now. Without a problem whatsoever! The installation was easy. (although it did take almost 40 days). I've been online CONTINUOUSLY sence then!!! It certanly beats BELL ATLANTIC hands down!!!
|
| Anon | do NOT choose Concentric!
never worked after 7 months! constantly screwing up order, sending out techs, they broke my regular phone service and took 2 weeks to fix it, tech support is the worst, always on hold, never got a straight answer, they lie lie lie saying someone will be out and no one comes. stay away at all costs.
|
| Anon | Unsure at the moment Just got Concentric DSL about a week ago in Ann Arbor, MI. I'm not impressed yet, but I'm not running away screaming either. Sometimes the dsl is great, other times I get 40% packetloss... We'll see if it gets more reliable anytime soon.
I've had no trouble getting ahold of customer service though.

| Anon | Concentric install hell -- Covad sucks!
Concentric Good - Covad Bad
Installation: 1 of 5 Customer Service: 5 of 5
I have had a nightmare trying to get DSL installed. I am trying for the 1.5Mbps/384Kbps option for $89/month. This is using Covad and they are the real problem. I wish I could review them instead.
I placed my order with Concentric on 6/13. I was contacted by Covad on 6/30 for the local loop install date of 7/12. They have to get USWest to install the line, because the are the local carrier. USWest will only give a commitment of 8AM to 5PM. I had to take the entire day off of work to be there, because the DMARC is in the basement. You guessed it they never showed up. Typical USWest (or Quest now). They claimed they had "No Access" when the logs were updated. Tough to have access if you don't even show up. Covad rescheduled the local loop delivery for 7/24. The USWest technician showed up this time at approximately 11AM. The line was installed, but he was not able to get through to Covad on the phone to get the line tested. I called Concentric to report this and they said that they can have Covad to the test and they would get back to me. I didn't hear anything. By 7/26, I called Covad and Concentric. Over the next three days (until today), I have been given reasons of "some of the test have been done", "we are waiting for one more test", "we will complete the test with in 24 hours" and "we are waiting for USWest to update us with DMARC information". My answer is just get it done instead of waiting for somebody else to do something! It has now been over 1-1/2 months since I placed my order and I am out 12 hours of work and I am no better off than I was.
I have promised them that if they don't have an install date for me by the end of the day 7/31, I will cancel my order without hesitation. I will not pay a company to screw up this badly. If the communication channels between provisioning and the phone company are that bad they have work to do or law suites to file. Concentric does offer the same product with Northpoint instead of Covad. My line qualifies for them also. They have agreed to work with me as a Northpoint customer if I have to cancel on 8/1.
Final Analysis stay away from Covad if you have other choices (I can only assume Northpoint would be better). On the bright side Covad customer services was excellent as was Concentric's. Concentric's hold times were a little lengthy in the afternoon but they were quite fast in the A.M.

| Anon | Good Backbone, Customer Services STINKS!
Concentric Customer/Technical Support SUCKS!
I had Concentric 416k SDSL for over 18 months. The following sums up my experience:
- My first two months of "service," the line was down about 5 days a week. Concentric DID NOT offer to zero the bill.
- I lost my email POP3 account password and it took 3 weeks of calls/emails/phone tag to get them to reset it.
- Unannounced network/POP outages. Then no return calls when I left messages/emails with tech support.
- 800-number for Tech Support will ring endlessly, then auto-answer asking you to hold...
- ...leading to a message asking you to leave a message.. .
- ...which HAS NEVER EVER generated a return call for me.
- Complaints by email or phone lead to no reply. ( I requested a call back 4-5 times from the Cust Supp. manager and never got one )
(Once I finally got a tech. support person on the phone and he told me I should have EMAILED my problem -- Gee! THANKS!)
- Inappropriate billing of taxes (Concentric is NOT licensed to collect sales tax in New York -- so charging me CALIFORNIA sales tax is WAY out of bounds) (They are still trying to get it from me)
I was so upset with them that I just stopped paying. It took them 3 months to get around to contacting me about it and then almost a month to cancel my service billing (after I had disconnected the line). On the plus side, they have a decent backbone. Problem was, I had so damn much trouble getting to it! Until Concentric gets their Customer/Technical Support act together STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS DOG!!

| Yikes, my Concentric DSL has worked great.
I switched from Telocity, who is probably the worst ISP on the planet to Concentric several months ago. I couldn't be happier with my choice. I work for a computer/networking company in the Metro Detroit area, and I get to personally hear horror stories from our customers about DSL. From what I hear from my customers almost all DSL installs are nightmare ordeals. I only personally know one other person in this area who has Concentric, and they have been very happy with it. Maybe we were just lucky, who knows. The only thing I do know is that Concentric has fixed any problems I have had. This even included refunding my installation charge, after I noticed they were waiving it for new customers. I had already had the service for almost a month, and they credited my account $90!!

| Wortherless Concentric.
ok gets this. I called Concentric on July 11th, 2000 and ordered DSL. I told them my neighbor said it was impossible to get it in my area, but the sales person said I was 12,000 feet from my CO which was good for DSL.
Well its now Sept. 12, 2000 and I have not heard from concetric. I called them last week and was on hold for about 4 hours. I hung up the phone and I was very pist. How can you run a company like that ?! After all aol only has ya on hold for only 2 hours. At anyrate I called 411 and asked for a number to Concentric in SanJose Ca. ( which is where they located ) I spoke to some girl name elisa and she told me that someone would call me right back to confirm my install date. Well thats been over a week. I have sent several emails to this company with no reply. I guess they really dont care about customer service. Because I was willing to pay 800 bucks to get the dam thing installed. Thats not including the 69 amonth once it was up and working. Word to wise here people. DSL is not going to get better until there is competition. I thought about going to BellAtlantic ( aka Verizon ) DSL, but the jury is still out on that one. I think I might wait for Wireless internet to hit. Good luck Concentric.. I was willing to pay top dollar for the service.. And I will continue to tell people everywhere what a bad customer service you guys have.

| Who'd you call?
Thats funny. Because if you called the right number Xo's DSL account specialists (the only company that has them) usually pick up the calls in under a minute.
i've had no problems with my installation i just called 18004240584 option 1 option 1 and they gave me status on my intallation whenever i wanted it.

| Anon | Can't setup account -- 90 days later
Ordered concentric/northpoint in early July. I know Verizon was on strike, which slowed it down a month. But this last week (early October) I began cracking down on the lateness.
Today here's the email I get: (90 days later -- and Northpoint is certainly supposed to be available in my area):
We have been informed by Northpoint that they are currently not ready for DSL service in your area and they do not have an estimated timeframe for when they will be. If you like, we can place the order through our alternate vendor, Covad. Please let me know what you wish to do. Thank you.
how's that for customer service?

| XO x's out
XO has turned out to be the worst experience I have had from a service standpoint. Initially they were very helpful in setting up my service. One office and my home were set up quickly (3 weeks). But it took forever to get my 2nd office setup (they said they didn't get my email clarifying the office address) and they waited 4 weeks before telling me after all, that my third office was too far from the Telco CO to get the promised bandwith. Also, when Northpoint didn't honor the rebate on my bridge (they said I signed up too late - yeah right, it was the date my bridge was installed by them), the service rep from XO promised to pick up the tab ($250). Then he became invisible, no answers by phone or non-commital answers to my emails. Finally when I contacted the billing office (after 9 months of no satisfaction) they refused to pick it up. NOW they call me 24 hours prior my DSL service being turned off due to the Northpoint fiasco and offer me free dial-up (whoop de doo). I am fed up and looking for a new provider!!

| Awesome Tech support When my DSL went down the people in the first level tech support really knew what they were talking about. They were able to get me back up and running within a day. I really appreciate their service and would recommend them for any small business. | |
|
| Anon | Good service - Will they be around?
I've had excellent service from XO, including helping us get back in business when Northpoint went under. They could have given us more warning about the Northpoint problems, but such is life. They got us a dial-up within a day or two, and re-provisioned a new dsl line in about 10 days using Covad.
I'm just concerned that the financial condition/shock market problems may take them down. Covad is also getting to the same precarious position.

| XO = a major disappointment
Hi,
We have been happily providing services out of our Chicago location in XO's datacenter for close to a year now.. the pings and network have been at worst acceptable but usually fantastic.
Despite multiple billing and support issues, we felt that overall it was a great place to be, perhaps since we require VERY LITTLE handholding.
Now for the disastrous news...
They call me on the phone today. Apparantly they have a rather large client with 5 racks packed full of 1/2U gear that drains power like there is no tomorrow. Due to this, they informed me that despite the fact I have a contract to use a full rack of space, I cannot sent anymore servers due to the power issue.
Apparantly the building is not power upgradable, so I am stuck with a very successful and growing business in a dead end datacenter. They attempted to coax me into moving to their Secaucus, New Jersey Datacenter with this incentive:
-FREE SETUP -1 Month Service Free
LOL....
In short, I can heartily recommend you stay far from these clowns.
So, as far as Chicago datacenters are concerned, I know of only 2 others:
FDCservers ServerCentral
I am not even considering FDC, I gave ServerCentral a call. Any other ideas? -- Every man dies...not every man really lives... Hacking is the business for the computer absolute elite...

| Insider view from XO front line... For the past 3 years I have worked for this company...for 3 years I have listened to the lies by management and for 3 years I have lied to you the EU.
It wasn't until a recent email I received that tipped me over the edge and made me question how I could have been so stupid as to waste this much time with a company that is going NOWHERE. You all heard about the Eastern blackouts...those of you who are unfortunate to live in an area that can only be supported by XO were probably down for a week after they said everything was fixed...some of you I'm willing to bet are still down.
Go ahead and call us, I have my script of what I'm supposed to tell you right here...."If EU is located in the NE region inform them they are down due to VERIZON still having no power to their CO's" This is an actual email I received from someone in upper management....this is all the information XO Communications feels you need to know.
The above is just recent events. But for 3 years I have learned the process. If your a DSL customer and you are down after 5:00pm EST don't bother calling us...as nothing will get done. Try it, give us a call tell us your DSL is down (unplug your CPE if your fortunate enough to speak with someone who knows how to ping) get your ticket number then call us in the morning. I promise you, what you will be told is "Our repair technicians have begun/currently testing your circuit and are awaiting updates from them" Translation: nothing has been done as we have no info to give you. The average DSL ticket I see takes 5 to 7 days to be resolved and closed.
This is how XO Communications handles all business they do...DSL to OC1 to DS3 to OC48's. If you are thinking about choosing this company for anything...please take the word of someone you call to help you... DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!
