| | MHO vs. other Wireless networks I received a flyer on my door (they are week for doing that. Must not be able to afford stamps) that advertised their broadband service for wireless that would be better than dsl or cable. Ok for one I have to say MHO must be hurting for business after reading some of its reviews ( I will also have comments for some of those reviews) Second there seems to be a lot of anger floating with customers that came over from webconnects way back when. Third their service is lacking for options compared to other services in the area. I could make a recommendation right here not to use them.
According to their "MHO NETWORKS Public Static IP Agreement" they block standard server ports. Ok this is one main reason for getting static IP's. To the reviews on this for and against that I read, to the for people get over yourself. Tons of ISP's in the area offer statics so people can run servers such as simple mail servers, web servers and what not. Now the average joe may not be able to afford the T-1 or fractal T-1 and just wants a very low accessed website to show off some material for personal or to maybe start off their own business not related to the internet (example would be a photographer) And to the comment of the bandwidth issue I have a mail server on my ISP and I track my on usage. I barely have 1Gig a month coming out of that server. I am not hosting it for others only for my self. The people out there using bit-torrent or just some file sharing program use more than that a month in a lot of cases. Now there are irresponsible mail server owners out there that don't lock down their servers and cause huge amounts of spam traffic or they use their server to spam intentionally. Same with the web owners. I understand the anger for the people that try to host others mail or web addresses. If you want to do that than pay for the business service. I would.
Now on to what they offer and what others offer. I use a WISP service that I will not mention here for that is bad business (send me a message if you want to know). I pay $68 (includes the $10 a month for 5 statics), no other fees per month(except for the setup), no surcharges or taxes. The speeds are 2.5Mps/1Mps service. No lock down on any ports, no restrictions on servers, and no make usage a month. Now if I went with MHO I would be paying $50 plus $15 (for only 1 static) gain .5Mps on download and lose .5Mps on upload. That makes $65 plus any taxes or surcharges that they need to apply because they offer other services such as DSL (not sure if this would still carry any charges). Now from reading reviews it appears they monitor anyone's bandwidth whether they have static or not. So no gain in getting the 3Mps download since they may charge your for over usage. And I bet the best tech out there can't show me a huge difference (must be more than 10secs difference of downloading a file) between 2.5Mps and 3Mps on a download that matters.
Also after reading reviews and their site for DSL service with the same pricing and restrictions for statics is junk. They partner with Qwest and I had Qwest DSL for 3 yrs with no restrictions on servers or ports and I got 8 statics for the same monthly fee they offer only 1 static width bandwidth issues.
Last thing I have to say is they appear to be cheap at advertising since they sent someone around door to door to drop these flyers off instead of sending them in mass mailing via the post office. This makes me think that they may be hurting for business and losing customers. With knowledge of ISP workings this place also has issues if they think their problems for bandwidth is costly. Most ISP's don't try to make their money from just the internet user. They a good portion with there other services (web hosting, email hosting, etc...). If they restrictions were put in place because these services were doing poorly than maybe they need to take a hard look at what kind of a job they are doing with their other services. It could be that the services are poorly run.
This is my opinion after receiving the flyer.
If anything appears to be incorrect in this please forward me the location in writing that states otherwise and I will review it. Remember it is possible I may be mis-understanding something they have which means others may be doing the same when they go to your site or receive the flyer. |
