why the little guys rule

i'm located in newark, ca and have been using raw bandwidth for the past 18 months. i initially had some troubles with packetloss on my line since i was located at least 15K feet from the CO... however RB was extremely diligent and concerned. in no time i had a loaner modem and tech support was at my house the next day to fix the issue. after experiencing the horror of dealing with pacbell's customer support i was tickled pink to experience the responsiveness that one can only get from a local ISP. i've referred 3 friends to RB and all have been pleased. while i'm not a fan of pacbell, mike durkin at raw bandwidth has done an excellent job of shielding customers from the notorious corporate b.s. five stars here....

Another Raw Bandwidth fan

I've had Raw Bandwidth DSL since right before Covad filed for Chapter 11 - I ditched my spotty 384/128 Covad DSL connection for RB, and after RB made several calls to Pac Bell, they were able to tweak my line to something like 1400/128.

Their support is solid, turnaround time is fast, and they follow up to make sure everything's working. How many of you have gotten a callback from support to make sure everything's working after an outage?

They're not flashy, but they offer a wide range of services from hosting, DNS, mail forwarding, and shell accounts. I would definitely recommend RB to anyone looking for dependable service.

Solid service from a Mom-and-Pop ISP

I have been using Raw Bandwidth's business service since 2000 (indeed, my office used to be theirs and my server room once was their main center, so the T-1 I use with them is the one they used to connect to the Internet backbone). I also have their DSL service at home, with static IP and no server limitation nonsense.

Like any small to midsize ISP, they are subject to the vagaries of the bigger players they purchase IP transit or DSL connectivity from. Since my DSL service is run from a Pac Bell (AT&T) DSLAM, I can't get rid of my wired phone line, for instance, as Pac Bell's reseller agreement prohibits that. The backbone connection is theirs, not AT&T's, however, so you won't be subject to the kind of cost-cutting overloading you will experience at companies run by bean counters.

What sets Raw Bandwidth apart is human service. Mike Durkin will help you with the setup, and will personally call you if there is an outage. It is rare to see that level of dedication to customer service, even in small firms, and you certainly won't get it from the corporate behemoths. They are not the cheapest (although their rates are competitive for higher-end services like static IP), but the service more than makes up for it.

Raw bandwidth still great

I've had my DSL from Raw Bandwidth for over a year now and couldn't be happier. After all the trouble trying to explain what was wrong to my old ISP "tech support line" (and being told things such as 'let me explain how computer networks actually work miss' from someone who had never heard of my O.S.) it has been a joy to be with Mike Durkin's company.

I haven't had to call support once, my connection has been really solid. I only wish I had signed up earlier. If your service reliability is important, this is the way to go.
