DSL Ripoff?

How is $139.95 setup fee a free install?

Re: DSL Ripoff?

While our setup fee is $139, we offer a $198 rebate after installation, thereby making the setup fee "free". The modem for the service is $99+tax (if you have Windows 98 and USB) or $150+tax (if you don't).

Tell the truth, Mr Diskin

Inreach does not offer a rebate. The rebate is offered by Covad. In other words, Mr Diskins is not telling the truth. It should also be mentioned that the rebate takes 12 to 16 weeks. You can verify my claim here: »www.covad.com/services/rebate.shtml

608k or 384k in bay area?

The chart here quotes 608k max speed for the $49 rate in SF bay area, but InReach's web page quotes 384k max. What's the real maximum? And, what does it mean for the real world? (I'm stuck at the minimum 128k (see my review), so I'm wondering whether anyone gets better than 384k).

Re: 608k or 384k in bay area?

The web site was outdated for a short time. 608k is the max speed for the $49/mo rate in the Bay Area (and Sac, LA, etc). The minimum speed is 128k. The rate you get depends on your distance from the CO, and will be anywhere between 128 and 608.
