Optimal Link can't be beat!

I've had Optimal Link for a month now and I'm still waiting for the bad stuff to start. I'm amazed at how great it is to deal with this company and I recommend them to as many people as I can. I've only had one connection issue and it was immediately corrected. These people really seem to care if my DSL is working or not. After dealing with Ma Bell and Winfire (ugh), this is heaven. Keep it up Optimal!

Re: A good review to look at before considering ISP

Mike Scott's review is one review, and my treatment of Mike is one incident. I hope the Internet community sees that and judges it appropriately. I completely screwed up in how I dealt with him.

I completely screw up from time to time in other things too. I wish I would quit doing that. FWIW, I'm trying to make it up to him, but I'm having trouble contacting him. I guess he doesn't want to talk to me. Actually, that's pretty understandable.

15 days to install?

I recently moved to Houston from Ohio. After being far from pleased with my cable provider's quality of service I decided to check out DSL. Oplink boasted the highest rating in Houston so I figured that I should give them a try. However, things were delayed because AT&T didn't turn our phone line on in a timely manner. After waiting a few days we called today and were told that the package would ship out today and we should have it Monday. Three hours later they called back and gave us this line about never having a customer in out apartment complex and having to get permission from AT&T and they wont be able to process the order for 15 days. Where is the great service I have read about? This delay seems unnecessary.

Re: 15 days to install?

This problem happens rarely from time to time. ATT is upgrading the infrastructure around Houston and installing new Remote Terminals to bring the DSL signal source closer to the client. We have fiber optic links to all RT's except the newest ones that we are unaware of. When a customer orders service and is in a brand new RT area, we have to establish a data path to that RT before we can serve any customers whose phone lines go to it. Once we have the link established, we can provide to the entire area without delay. Unfortunately it takes about 12 days to establish the initial link.

Need phone line?

Hi,

I currently have AT&T DSL Pro for $17.99, but the promotional pricing is going to end next month and jump to $24.99, so I'm looking for alternatives. I also would not mind to get rid of my landline and leave AT&T behind entirely.

If I get DSL from Oplink.net, do I still need to get a landline from somewhere else? Would I need to keep my AT&T landline, which constitutes $23 of my $44 bill?

Thank you for your help.

Re: Need phone line?

You do need a land line from ATT. That's because we use ATT's DSL carrier signal for the last mile link between our network operations center and the customer. ATT will not provide the DSL signal without the end user having local phone service. The good news is that ATT sells a very cheap version of local phone service that is 100% compatible with all of Oplink.net's DSL products. It's called "Measured Rate" service and we have a link to it on our support page at the very bottom.

anyone else having bouncing issues?

it started (guesstimating) about 6-8 months ago... i would be working and minding my own business when BOOM! connection drops. it would only drop for 15-30 seconds, then pop right back up again. normally, it wouldnt matter much... but at the time, i was working on a java project that needed that connection to be stable. it was damn near impossible to deal with. i spoke to the guys, and we really couldnt find a solution. we tried everything from unplugging my router to disconnecting everything on the network... plugging in a single computer... etc. nothing seemed to work. but, just as quickly as it popped up, the problem went away.

this popped up a few more times over the course of the next few months, but never persisted for longer than a few days. every hour or so, it would just drop. finally, i think everyone had enough, and we swapped out the modem. that seemed to cure it at the time. but, here i am again, and dealing with the same issue, yet again. im noticing it a lot right now due to playing the ps3 online (and unable to finish a single game of warhawk).

its well past annoying. im just curious if anyone else has seen this issue?

Re: anyone else having bouncing issues?

I've noticed this a couple times in the past few weeks as well.

This is the first time I've had much trouble since my first modem died a few years ago. After they replaced it, I've had just about trouble-free service ever since.

So far the dropouts only last a minute or so, like you said.

I was waiting to see if they got worse before calling it in.

Please call us or email us at info@oplink.net so that we can replace your modem. We honestly believe that you are having these intermittent disruptions, and a new modem may be the solution. Just swap out your current modem with a new one. If this doesn't work, we will agressively pursue ATT for maintenance of the card you are attached to on the Remote Terminal. Your experience is unusual, and not being experienced by our other customers.
