A Sort of Goodbye!

Hi,

I am formerly DSLX_Zak of this support forum. I am posting here to say thanks and goodbye since I am no longer an employee of DSLEXTREME or it's parent(Sister?) company. It has been a positive learning experience for me assisting with this forum and I appreciate all of you putting up with me and my bad spelling and grammar.

My leaving the company was do to a change in my personal life and was not in any way DSLX's fault.

I will probably stick around and read and reply to posts but no will no longer be able to help in an official capacity. Please direct any questions related to account inquiries to DSLX_GM and or whoever he may choose take my place.

Qualification

So I'm moving to a new home and I checked ATT.com and dslextreme.com to see if I qualify for DSL. ATT said I do not, but DSLX says I do. Is that right? I thought DSLX used/piggybacked on ATT's hardware, so if ATT can't supply me with DSL, how is DSLX able to?

george please help me!!!

i have been a longtime fan and customer of dslextreme. i have recommended dslextreme to many friends, colleagues and family members.

i hooked up dslextreme in my dad's house and we've been a happy customer for over 5 years.

About 6 months ago, i purchased a second account for my dad in his vacation house. For the past 6 months we have never been able to receive a connection. every time we go to the house the only way we can get on the internet (as i am currently doing) is by "borrowing" my neighbor's wireless.

I called dslextreme to cancel the 2nd account, but they want to charge me an ETF!!! i think it's fair to meet half-way, or maybe i should be asking them for a refund! But to be hostage for 6 more months of fees or pay an early termination fee when their system hasn't worked from day one is pretty upsetting. make me really wonder why i should continue with the all the other dslextreme accounts. they seem SO short-sighted in doing what is right. we still want to be their customer but just with one of the accounts at the house that works. not the house that doesnt.

i hope george gets in touch with me and do what's right. i will post and tweet my experiences - my twitter id is @sethg

Please George - looking forward to your help!

I have a DSL Extreme with DHCP account. It has been running on an old speedstream since I set the account up with no problems. I am wanting to configure a Cisco 1701 with a WIC1-ADSL modem. It looks like I am communicating with DSLExtreme but am not getting an IP address.

Here is the output from my putty session with 'debug atm events' on (the config follows the debug lines)

I know gm is on vacation right now and I don't expect a response until he returns but I figured I'd post my question/concern so that I'm in the queue for when he does.

The long and short of it is that I fell for the advertising without reading the fine print. I saw PRO 3Mbps available at my current residence for the same price I was paying ATT for half the speed. Free upgrade I thought, but actually the plan I was signing up for said "up to 3Mbps" which translates to "anywhere from 1500-3000 down".

Now this wouldn't be too bad if I didn't draw the short straw and end up on the lower end of that scale. Currently I'm getting around 1690 down (Never seen 1700 actually) and I've waited the 10 day ramp up period that I've seen mentioned in other threads. I've also changed out my long phone cord (from modem to wall jack) with a short phone cord and I've tried connecting my modem directly to my computer.

It would seem that just under 1700 is the best I'm going to get, which is a shame because not only was I expecting 3000, but had I known I was only going to get a boost of 500 kbps (1700 minus my previous rate of 1200), I wouldn't have bothered adding another bill and I surely wouldn't have signed the year long contract.

The primary reason I'm posting today is to see if a dslextreme tech is able to work some behind the scenes magic to help me reach a speed more in line with what I was expecting, but also to reiterate the age old adage of "read the fine print".

Sincerely,
Matthew Madson

Packet loss in SA, TX

I'm having some packet loss problems on my line. My ping tests to my default gateway don't drop any packets but go from a steady 20ms ping for a few minutes to 10 or 20 in the 200ms range, then back down. I get anywhere from 2-10% packet loss to my second hop at 63.1 consistently. Here are my test results for the past few days on the line quality test:

DSLXtreme Experience So Far

I currently live in Redlands, CA and have been on FIOS for the last year and a half. Awesome service - love it! Unfortunately, I moved on the 1st of this month and even though I'm only 6 blocks away from where I used to live - FIOS wasn't available. So, I started the long trek of searching for a new ISP - and knowing the horrors of cable and Time Warner - and reading the forums here at DSLreports, I decided to order DSLXtreme (provisioned by Verizon). I also noticed that DSLXtreme is now reselling FIOS so if it becomes available in my area it will be an easy switch through the same company. I do a lot of remote work and I'm hoping that the latency of DSL will be adequate.

So, seeing all this before me - I went to DSLXtreme's website on 5/19/2009 9:28:49 AM - that's a full 11 days before I have to move and order the 3000/768 service. I'm hoping this is more than enough time to get a working link at my new place.

Now starts the fun part. I get some cryptic call from Verizon on the 26th of May saying "hey, we'd love to install a DSL loop at your new place but one is already there and is active." Great - how is that possible? Turns out that the former tenant had DSL service there and never disconnected it. I phone the landlord and he tracks down the previous tenant and even gets a cancellation # for me. It turns out that the former tenant also had DSLXtreme - what a coincidence. So I think to myself - good - this shouldn't hold things up too much, right? I phone DSLXtreme and after being transferred to the billing department - I explain what happened and give them the cancellation #. The lady tells me it will still take up to two weeks to get my service up and running!?!? Now I'm starting to panic. So, I thank her and immediately go the DSLXtreme website and open up a trouble shooting ticket.

I get this response:

Good Morning,
I have checked your DRY DSL order status and it is still pending. I show that a Verizon tech was supposed to go out to your premises on 5/23/2009 to tag the line for the DRY DSL however, it shows as if they have not done so. I have sent VZ an email for further status and will update you once I have further information. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This is very frustrating because all "Lily" did was repeat back to me basically what I had said in my trouble shooting ticket.

I have had no further contact. Now, today - and this is totally my fault - I get a phone message from a Verizon guy - I think - it was hard to understand because he spoke so fast - with a 1800 # I'm supposed to phone - but instead of saving the message - I accidentally delete it! I'm almost certain it was saying the same thing the last verizon message said way back on the 26th because I shouldn't have to call anyone back if there isn't a problem, right?

And that's where I'm at... It's June 2nd and I still have no internet and am not sure when the internet will be arriving. Since I ordered DSLXtreme based on people's experience here and was impressed by the level of technical support - I figured I'd post here, also and see if it might help speed things along.

I'm still glad I ordered because I can't imagine using any of the alternatives for my area... Just a little worried. :-)

Best Wishes,

Marco Belmonte

Incredibly dis-satisfied with DSL Extreme

I just wanted to pass along my experience thus far with DSL Extreme, and how incredibly dis-satisfied I am with them. (this is stating it as mildly as possible)

First and foremost, I understand the position, etc that they're in, and how they work. And I also understand, in relation to everything, that this is only a short period of time, but I *need* access to the Internet for my job. Also throughout the story, this is alternating between me being on the phone talking to them and my fiancee.

Here's the story:
Bought a house, filled in the appropriate online forms to setup a time for FIOS to be installed. At first I was going to go through Verizon FIOS, but then saw DSL Extreme was cheaper, so I thought I would give it a shot. I got a voicemail soon after, saying the installation would be this past Friday between 1-5 ET. I got another voicemail later, further confirmation, both voicemail's saying no further action was required (kept both voicemails). I logged onto the account for the heck of it, and saw it was scheduled between 8-5 on Friday. I talked to a representative online, and after a little back and forth, verified that the actual time was 1-5. No big deal, no issues.

Fast forward to Friday, I took the day off work so I'd be available for the 'up to an 8 hour install'. 5PM ET rolls around, no word from anyone, I start to get worried. I wait about 30 minutes or so, and I call DSL Extreme. After being on the phone for a bit and explaining the situation, they say they're checking into it. While on the phone with them, they say that Verizon sent them an email at 6:30 saying the tech was apparently actually at my house installing it. This was news to me, but I can somewhat understand the confusion.

At this point I tell them that I'd very likely need someone out there the same night, because I wasn't going to be able to easily take off yet another day off work for this install. They say they're not going to be able to get in touch with the Verizon dispatch at this point in the night. They say they'll try to get in touch with Verizon and will *have a supervisor call me back first thing Monday*. Monday at 1PM rolls around, I try to call to talk to the original CSR (Christie), she's not available. Ok... wait a few more hours, still not available (both times leaving a message to call back). Monday at 6PM EST rolls around, and I decide to start this entire thing with a new CSR (Josh), explaining the situation, etc.
The new CSR says that he saw the original CSR sent an email to Verizon and hadn't heard back. Explained that we were still waiting for a supervisor call back, and were wanting to get this straightened out ASAP.
At this point, we're starting to get pissed in general. We don't have another time setup, can't get in touch with a supervisor, and we are being told now that the only way they can get in touch with Verizon is through email, and that they are unable to call anyone to get a response. We call out on the fact it's now been an entire weekend, and an entire business day, and how could they not have a response yet from Verizon, for something like this? (guessing the original email didn't go out until mid-late Monday afternoon).

We attempt to push for an actual phone call, the CSR tells us that he got a number from his supervisor and attempted calling it and they were closed (who woulda guessed at 6:30 PM ET.. by this point....). We attempt to raise this to a supervisor. The CSR says his supervisor is not available. We again call out on the fact that he said he just talked with his supervisor. Apparently his supervisor is available via IM, but can't talk to us tonight (why???). At this point we're fed up, and it's not worth the ~$5-10/mo, and we'd rather go with Verizon directly. We ask him to just cancel the account, as this is just becoming way too troublesome (we're at about 5 hours of phone conversation this time...including over 60 of prime-time minutes). I understand that their hands may be tied, but this is why we'd rather go directly through Verizon. To note, we can't reach a supervisor, OR have them reach Verizon over a span over an entire business day. Also our service has been activated as of Friday, which means we're already paying for something we can't use.

And this is where I just became irate. We're told that, him as the billing dept, that he can't cancel the service. We don't understand how in the world this is possible. I need this internet setup ASAP, we have no idea when the re-setup date will be, and I'm already completely worried about future dealings with these guys if any further issues arise. We demand to talk to a supervisor of any level, we want this cancelled now. We're paying for it, apparently, and we can't use it, or even get to the point where it CAN be used. We get told this is just not possible, and we'd have to wait until tomorrow again, to get a phone call back (like that'll happen), and we get to go through this all over again. We also attempt to push to get another supervisor from another dept, and we're told that 'all the departments are the same'. i.e. it's just that team.

And this is where we are now, this is just completely ridiculous.
In summary:

1. We've been told that they're complete unable to reach Verizon.
2. We've also been told a supervisor is completely impossible to reach, despite the CSR's admitting they're talking to them.
3. We're paying for a service we can't use, and hasn't been setup.
4. We're completely unable to just cancel this and cut our losses.
5. The timespan at this point is from ~5:30PM ET Friday, to 8PM ET Monday night.

Any general feedback? Not typically the type to complain, but I desperately need the internet setup at this point, and I really can't easily take another entire day off work for someone not showing. (this one is probably Verizon's fault, but Verizon would hopefully at least attempt to care/figure out)
