returning DSLX customer with a few questions

Hello everyone. A couple of years ago I had Dslextreme in Hemet California via Verizon's phone line connection. I moved in July 2006 to Riverside, where I had DSLX for a short time via AT&T lines, but cancelled the connection due to AT&T issues that AT&T weren't willing to fix. The DSL extreme service itself was top notch.
I'm preparing to move again in a bit over a month back to Hemet, and am considering returning as a DSL Extreme subscriber once there, but I have a few questions.
First, I'll need DSL Extreme to provide me a DSL modem Self-install kitt, as I no longer have my old DSL modem I used previously.
Is it possible for me to have them send the equipment to my current address, and then I can take it with me when I move? Or must I wait until I move before even placing the order. I ask this because I'll want to have internet access as soon as possible once I move, and I could get cable temporarily, however if DSL extreme could send me the DSL installation equipment at my current address, I can do just as I did when I had my own modem, and just place the order a week before I move, so by the time I get to the new address, the line should be activated and ready to go, and all I need do is connect the modem and install the filters on the phones..
My second question has to do with fastpath and Interleave. I know a couple years ago, Verizon started to default all connections to their dslam equipment to interleave, regardless of whether or not the customer was on Verizon's backbone, or going over Verizon's network to another provider as I'd be doing. Assuming this still happens, can I still get DSL extreme to contact Verizon and have them switch my circuit to Fastpath as I did before? This will give me better latency, which I do very much prefer. I'm moving back to the exact same location in Hemet where I had DSLExtreme before, and I'm looking forward to a pleasant experience I hope.

Dial-up Connect Problem with Terminal Software

I'm trying to make a dial-up connection using a terminal application from both Windows 98SE and Linux. This is prompted from not being able to make a dial-up connection from Linux whereas I could this past February, the last time I tried to.

Reviewing a Linux log file, I can see that there has been a change in the prompts that DSL Extreme sends out during the log-in process. The prompt used to say "Username:/login:" after which I would enter my username (without @dslextrem.com). It would then say "Password:" after which I would enter my password, and my connection would be established.

Now the prompt is "Please Sign-on:" after which I enter my username (without @dslextreme.com). It then says "Password:" after which I enter my password. It then replies with "Name, password pair incorrect." This happens both on Linux using minicom and on Windows 98 using a US Robotics terminal program. Note that I can connect to the internet from Windows 98 using the normal dial-up procedure.

I called DSL Extreme tech support. The first person I talked to said that when I'm asked for my username I should enter it as username@dslextreme.com. I tried that on both Linux and Windows, and in both cases, as soon as I pressed the Enter key, it immediately replied with "Name, password pair incorrect," not giving me the opportunity to enter my password.

I called back DSL Extreme tech support and told them that appending @dslextreme.com to my username didn't work, and I was essentially told "tough, we don't support Linux." It seems like if DSL Extreme has made a change to the log-in process, they should be able to explain what has changed. I would appreciate any advice from DSL Extreme as to what I can do to regain the Linux dial-up connectivity that I previously had.

Adding a new outside connection in an office, how to do it?

Let me describe how our network currently is, then I'll describe what I'd like to do.

Currently there are three offices (Office 1, Office 2, Office 3) sharing one network connection. The connection comes in to the router. From there, the router splits it off to our internal data server and the main server and a couple user computers, all of which are in Office 1. A line from the router leads to a switch in Office 2, which leads out to my computer in Office 2 and also has a line going to a switch in Office 3 (which has several computers).

I am Office 2. I would like to get a faster DSL connection with a static IP address which I do not share with the other offices (for hosting a new server for work only partially shared with the other offices without bringing down the network with my new traffic) but I would also like to maintain my connection to the internal server and the other computers on the network.

Would this require two new routers? I've been thinking that I could put a router in Office 3, with a default route going to the router in Office 1 via the switch in my office (Office 2). But would I need a second router in my office to handle traffic coming from my computer and traffic passing to and from Office 3 and 1?

So, how in the world can I figure all of this? How can I set the switch to forward everything from Office 3 on to Office 2 while sending everything from my office (Office 2) on to the switch in Office 3, which would be connected to the new DSL modem? (No phone line in Office 2, I use a wireless phone going to a jack in Office 3, next to the jack that I'd be using for a new DSL connection).

ATM VC Congested

I'm having some problems tonight, my modem keeps loosing sync. In troubleshooting on my end, I noticed that in the alarm log on my Broadmax modem I have the following condition ...

Sun May 04 15:29:21 2008 : WARNING : ATM VC Congested : Interface - aal5-0, PortId=7, Vpi=0, Vci=35

Would this indicate the ATM virtual circuit at the CO is congested? Net has seemed slow tonight but I thought it was due to the resyncs.

I've attached the modem's alarm log and the sho dsl stats.

Why can't I renew/upgrade my sub online as email indicates?

Hi George/DSL_Zak or ????,

My year agreement ends on 06/01/08 and I received my email the other day that I could upgrade to a 'special' deal if I renew online. After over 7 years with DSLx I am not going anywhere but for some reason I am not being allowed to upgrade or modify my sub online. Says something about my line not being 'eligible' for upgrading/modifying online and I am instructed to call sales. Huh?

Any help as I am loathe to spend any time on the phone with sales or support.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Removing Firewall cut off DHCP service

Have already done troubleshooting with Jeff C. and eliminated local problems. Tried to update the trouble ticket #3033711 with other information, but that is a part of your new website that doesn't work yet. So am posting the information here. Problem occurred ~1030PDT.
So: TT3033711 update
Turned off firewall and DHCP server no longer serves IP to me. Happened immediately after firewall turned off. All local troubleshooting done. Tried alternate computer; no surf. Able to use other wifi internet (non dslx) with no problems. Suspect your dhcp server updated table incorrectly or similar.
In any case, don't currently have DSLX service, just AT&T synch with D-Link modem.

ATTN: NOC/ Bill/Teir 2 Support - BGP Routing all jacked

Hope you still work in support Bill. This is C. Ratto... WAAAAZAAAAAAAAAP!!!

uid: removed@dslextreme.com (was removed@dslextreme.com)
pw: hmmmmmm i wonder.....

Support, NOC, & To Who It May Concern:

Ladies, Gentlemen...

I have a tier 3 account through you, which happened to be a nice peer with Covad/Level3 Communications...

What happened to the peer with Level3 in California, and why am I on the peer for ATT (COMCAST... ...PACBELL...)??

Why does the BGP route out of California peer with Level3, but if routing in California the path is over ATT or COGENTCO??

I disappear for a year or two and this is what I find...

I am disappointed in the least. Could it be a possibility to return my node back on the Level3 Link?

Please, I cannot go through another Peering, and Routing, issue again. I am not worried about the latency that happens from time to time. I have provided some traces below.

Regards,

Carlo Ratto

Takes long time to connect

I'm having a problem connecting to many websites I frequently visit, for example, newegg.com, etrade.com, ..., whenever I try to go there it takes a long time to connect. This has been going on since I first opened up my account one week ago.
Sometimes it does not connect at all. I get a "Can't display" message on the browser.
Any idea why?

502 errors (STILL and AGAIN)

(from a prior post)
In talking w/ a Cox subscriber from San Diego, a lot of the "502 errors" are generated by the highwinds server not releasing the IP after disconnect. The next time you are connected to the news server, it "sees" your last connection as current, thus disconnecting you for "too many connections" to the news server. Perhaps not directly a DSLX problem, and hard to document from the DSLX path to news server, Cox was finally able to get highwinds to correct the front-end authentication server problem.
In a nutshell, the problem is with highwinds. Getting it resolved is another matter.

Until and unless DSLX confronts Highwinds about this problem, we will all(NG users)be affected by it to some extent(twice today for me).

Ordered a new Static DSL line.

Just ordered a new line of STATIC service.

Can't wait for the activation date -- how long does that usually take?

Now, on your Prequal, the top package was 1500/384.

On AT&T's site, I can get the 3000 plan.

Is there any way to upgrade our line once I connect/activate the DSL modem that is supposed to be shipped?

Take care all
