Speedstream 5861 and Frontier Rochester

When I moved I wanted to continue to use my existing 5861 for DSL here in Rochester, but Frontier has changed the way they do things.. They promised me up and down that it would be no problem to continue using it.. So I changed it over from RFC1483 to PPPoE, put in my username, etc.. and it will not connect. Now they will not talk to me about it at all.. I know I have the correct VPC numbers, and the username the way they want it.. the only other thing they would tell me is I need to use VCMUX.. I'm guessing since the WAN protocol is PPP and not PPP/LLC, I'm using VCMUX and not SNAP but I can't confirm this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

back to back modems for point to point communications

I remember, several years ago, connecting two cisco 678 modems back to back in order to extend an ethernet circuit several miles. Can that be done with any speedstream model in order to extend my network over a single pair of wires for maybe a mile? Thanks
