[DSL] Pitiful speeds during the day. Congestion issue?

My connection in Monmouth, IL (61462) was recently bumped up from 3mb to 6mb, and a day after the connection became unreliable and nearly useless. Here's a current speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2721181989.png I haven't called support yet, but does anyone have any experience with this problem and can give me any hope that this will improve soon?

Anyone else seeing POP3 problems??

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing intermittent connection problems with pop3.frontier.com? I am OK on some accounts and others are intermittent. The error looks like an authentication problem and asks me for my password.

pop3 email through my web site provider is 100% rock steady.

Just wondering about this one.

Cheers...

Connection Issues

Could anyone tell me if anything is out of the norm here?
I use CenturyLink DSL... I think I have the 15mb package.

I've also been having problems for years. I mean real big problems.
Have had several technicians out to try and diagnose but to no availability. My connection constantly drops, I never get speeds anywhere close to what I pay for, and I'm lucky if my internet works longer than 1hour a day.

I've had several new modems, so I know that's not the problem. The technicians tried to say it was the wiring in my house. Have never had any problems with the phones or anything. But he ran a new line straight from the box outside with a female rj-45 jack, and it still does the same thing. So I believe that would eliminate it being the wiring in my house?

But here are some stats:
   Transceiver Revision : A2pB030m1.d23a
   Vendor ID Code : 4D54
   Line Mode : ADSL_2plus
   Data Path FAST

Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
   DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)	5260	691
   Margin (dB) 4.4 6.0
   Line Attenuation (dB) 40.5	26.8

[DSL] Rochester, NY DSL Speeds?

Recently I've been somewhat disappointed with my Frontier DSL speeds. To be fair, I don't believe there has been a physical change in my service, just a gradual shift in the way I use the Internet - More balanced down/up traffic where the async speeds of ADSL (favoring down) is no longer appropriate or adequate.

Called Frontier to discuss my service and this is the story as I understand things;
My Rochester, NY ADSL connection is technically capable of ("attainable" in Frontier lingo and the "Internet Max" service numbers for which I'm charged $45/mo) 10912 Mbps Down & 1152 Mbps Up. However, given distance to closest DSLAM, maximum theoretical speeds are set by Frontier to 6994 Mbps Down & 448 Mbps Up. And factoring in practical considerations, such as house wiring, etc, my actual speeds are typically around 5110 Mbps Down and 340 Mbps Up.

Adequate performance (nothing they can/will do, or try, to improve speeds) in Frontier opinion is measured as "practical within 70% of theoretical". So, in my case my Down comes in at about ~73% (5110/6994) and Up at around ~76% (340/448) - Both are "acceptable" performance to Frontier... And I'm told that the "Max" service is the "best" available in my area.

Am I basically understanding things right?
Is my scenario typical to other DSL users?
What do I need to say to get Frontier to get my speeds improved?
When can Frontier Customers expect generally improved DSL?

[FiOS] Frontier updates website, FiOS becomes 1st-class advertis

I noticed today--yes, I still check Frontier's sites even though I (temporarily, maybe) live outside a FiOS area--that the frontierforhome.com, frontierwa.com, and frontierpacificnw.com sites were busted. Looking at regular frontier.com, though, I noticed that FiOS with all offerings--TV, Internet, and phone--are all advertised once a location is entered. They even give "smaller" pages, like TV premium packages and different types of equipment, their own billing ahead of DISH products. It's probably just somebody in the advertising department doing a bit of spring cleaning but I thought it was interesting to note that FiOS isn't having to live in its own sites while being unmentioned and unloved on the main site.

[DSL] Internet Only for $30/mo?

I received the attached advertisement in the mail today. From what I can tell it looks like an honest-to-god competitive offer for Internet Only service. The way I'm reading this is they're offering 12Mbps service for $40/mo with no contract. Plus all the crap fees etc that for some reason my Internet Only service from Mediacom doesn't seem to include. Anyone know how much I might expect the fees to add up to if I were to give this offer a try?

DSL Area Upgrades/Fixes

A frontier field engineer on the side of the road told me the other day that they were addressing congestion in the area and that they were going to move people to another or new DSLAM to better handle the load. Around the same time my internet was slowed to about 1Mbps from over 3Mbps.

Well its been a while and I was wondering if they had to reduce area speeds to accommodate any access they would need to fix their equipment, or their plan was to just lower everyone's speeds to fix the issue, then leave. Does anybody have any idea or experience about how long it takes for frontier to address an area from inspection to implementation of a permanent fix?

Netgear 7550 Routing Table -- How To?

In a separate thread, I asked whether it was possible to do "hairpinning" with the Netgear 7550. This is where a client inside the LAN can access services published by port forwarding via the external, WAN address.

Most home routers support this behavior. This is useful because mobile devices can use the same URLs to access these services whether at home or on the road.

I was looking at the routing table in the 7550 advanced settings. I suspect that I just need to add a single entry that routes to the WAN port, but I haven't been able to find any syntax documentation or practical examples of how to use this feature.

The Netgear 7550 is just a rebranded Westell 7500. Routing table configuration has been available on Westell routers since forever. Has anybody ever used it? I've Googled the daylights out of this (crickets) -- nothing.

I read through many threads on here and noticed posting the connection log helps people give advice. Thought maybe I could post mine and see what you guys might think is going on. Thanks for any ideas!

[Phone] Phone says "Line In Use" a lot lately

I am a Frontier customer in Ohio. I have phone and DSL service. I have one corded phone and I notice it has been saying "Line In Use" a lot recently. But there is no one talking on the phone, and it is the only one I have in the house. I have been a customer for about 3 years and have not changed anything but this is now occurring more and more. When I pick up the phone I hear static, and a dialing noise kind of like a dial-up modem from a long time ago. When I hang up, the phone's display is normal but later I will notice Line In Use again.

My phone jacks are as follows:

Corded phone in kitchen phone jack (has a filter on it).
DirecTV box in living room phone jack (has a filter as well)
DSL box in bedroom phone jack (no filter)

I would appreciate any information the could be given, because I am not sure what this means or what I should do about it.

[FiOS] Fios TV HD Channels

I live in Troutdale, OR, and I have Fios small business (Internet & Phone), and Direct TV for home TV.
I would like to start saving money on my bills (DTV=$140 and Fios=$160).
I am thinking to switch the TV to Fios TV as a home service with a triple bundle.
But I need an advice on the TV side with Fios TV. I love the picture quality with DTV, and they have lots of HD channels. I am looking at Frontier website for the channel lineup and it looks like they don't have lots of HD channels. I mean it looks like they are way behind on upgrading their HD channels. As an example, Comcast and DirecTV always upgrading channels to HD, but it looks like Fios is not.
DTV and Comcast just upgraded DIY to HD as an example, but Fios is still not HD. Am I looking at an old channel lineup on Frontier website (http://www.frontierforhome.com/assets/OR_2013_Cnnl_Guide.pdf)?
Any one has Fios TV in Oregon area can advise me?
Thanks...

[DSL] Westell 7500 modem all lights good, internet light on.

Called Frontier tech and went thru all kinds of info and settings, rebooting and resetting, and no luck. Strange that the internet light was on as though all was fine.

First time I've really had any problems in 1.5 years of Frontier. At least I could understand the 2 techs. I talked to on the phone. That's a big plus as I can never understand the Indians or Philippines at the call centers for other companies.

[DSL] Speeds

Hi everybody anyways frontier is are only wired Internet service in our area and getting it install in another week or so anyways, frontier owns our phone lines in our area, and we called them up months ago and they said they had no equipment in our area, but just a few weeks ago I called my neighbor to ask what Internet they had and he said he had frontier dsl,and so I call up frontier wondering why he has dsl they say no again, I ask my neighbor if he would give me the techs number who installed his dsl service, so I call him up and he said he would take a look at our lines, so he calls me back and says he has installed another gateway because the other one was full, and the reason frontier said equipment wasn't in our area for dsl was because they never filed the information when they installed it which was 2 years Ago! I That makes me mad because I have had dumb verizon with terrible data caps, so anyways the tech said he has to file that dsl equipment is in our area so we can get it installed, which he said will get down with by Friday or so, but anyways my question is what speeds do you think I can Get? The tech said I was 2.5 miles away from the hub, plus I used to have phone service from them, and I remember are lines where noisy my lines should be ok tho what do you guys think the speeds I should Get?

About to move my CableCards (M-Cards) on FiOS system.

Well, I am now about to install two Premiere Tivo's (Tuesday). An XL4 and a P4. I can not wait for MRS and forget about MRV! Enough already with the copy bits! I have 3 Lifetime THD's now with M-Cards. I will take two of them out of the THD's. My question is if the P4 and XL4 will just pair them, or will I have to call Frontier? If I do have to call Frontier, is there a phone number for me to call where someone can just pair it to my 2 new Tivo's?

After it is all set up I can sell my THD with Lifetime and a just installed 2TB Hard Drive..318 HD hours!

[DSL] Frontier DSL down in Sammamish, WA

I have Frontier DSL at my house in Sammamish, WA.

Internet outage started yesterday (5/7/2013) at around 9am. Frontier acknowledged the outage at 9:30 am the next morning with an expected ETR of sometime Friday (5/10/2013).

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Details:

I wasn't able to call until 9pm that night. The tech I spoke to on the phone had no idea how to handle my problem. I told her repeatedly that all my systems (2 desktops, a tablet, and an Xbox) all lost connectivity at the same time. She still wasted 1+ hour of my time having me release/renew my DHCP address, flush my DNS cache, restart my desktop, restart my modem, etc. I even told her that the outage corresponded to when a local company started doing tree trimming around the utility lines through my neighborhood. After 2 hours (around 11pm) she informed me that I probably had a bad modem and gave me an "escalation number" to call after 8am the next morning to get the replacement process started.

The next morning I called the "escalation number" at 8:30 and spoke to a very knowledgeable tech. He walked me through a couple of troubleshooting steps in the Westel DSL modem management interface and then informed me that a service outage notice had just been posted for my neighborhood with an ETR of sometime Friday. He asked me to call after service was restored to ask for a credit on my bill for the outage period, which I will be doing later this week.

This is the only service interruption on Frontier that I have seen in a long time. Now I can't work from home.
