Charter Node?

Have this in the basement of a location feeding the tv. From what i can tell the bottom device is a fiber fed node?

We currently have coax based internet at this location, but if this is charters fiber then it should be easy(meaning no construction) for them to get us fiber based internet services.

80 year old house with structured wireing.

just finished wiring my house for structured cabling.

Please note not all of the data jacks are wired currently and we are still in the process of running the rest of the the coax lines.

The cisco router is a 2621xm with a wic-1dsu-v2 for internet connectivity, also the router has a link going to the cable modem for backup connectivity, in the rare event of a telecoms failure.

The switch is a 3548-xl with enterprise firmware, this is separated into two vlans for the private and public side of the network.

Not pictured is two cisco Aironet 1200 series wireless access point to cover indoor and outdoor wireless access at my house.

Next project will be the installation of a backup gen lpf or natural gas not for sure yet and automatic transfer switch, also will be installing a tankless water heater

*edit added close up of network for request*
*edit removed cable modem from cisco router as i'm phaseing this connection out*
*edit figured i'd upload a mrtg img for bandwidth usage*

New House Setups

Excuse the links please, I uploaded to photobucket then and can't find the folders it seems on the PC lol.
New house finally finished and moved in. Media centre in the Home theatre room bottom left device, nice little quad/4GB/2.2TB/8800GT complete overkill but was my previous main setup so I just made the VMC and never looked back. I finally have tons of room with a 5 foot by 9.5foot solid office desk to use, happy with so much room here. The bedroom has a 37" lcd with 7.1 surround as well as another media centre to stream the main media centre info too with another 8800gt to keep the picture quality good working along with the gbit wired plates in each room so it's nice and clean which I don't have a pic of yet with the pc added.hmm...thank god for wireless keyboard/mouse :p but that bedroom pic is for my eyes only anyhow :)

My server setup

New House, New Setup

I moved from a single wide trailer, while in college, into a 2800 sqft house. The greatest thing is that now I have a dedicated room for my computer and other gear.

The first pictures show the setup that I had while in our trailer. Then pictures of my new desk and new setup. The computer is inside the closet. This makes the noise drop from the PC. I am waiting until the end of the year to build another computer. Current specs: Abit Max 2, ATI x1600, AMD Barton 2500, 1 gig ram and two Westinghouse 22W. Yea, I know it isn't much, but buying a house took more of a priority.

The desk came from the WV state surplus auction. $200 bucks for a solid executive desk. Plus this desk let me get rid of a old metal filing cabinet and put all the filings in the desk.

I forgot to add Abner. He watches me play TF2.

Updated Rack

A friend of mine was over tonight and helped me take these pictures of my updated rack:

From top to bottom:
2 4U blank panels
DLI Ethernet Power Switch
Cisco 2924XL Switch
Cobalt RAQ4 Server - CentOS - SNPP Paging Server
4U Server - WinXP pro - webcam to Weather Underground
1U Server - CentOS - Web/Mail/Proxy/Database Server
1U Server - CentOS - PBX In A Flash - Asterisk Server
1U Server - WinXP pro - weather radio to Weather Underground
APC UPS - Powering all 3 1U servers (EPC Bus A)
Sola UPS - Powering EPC Bus B and WXCAM server

The modem for the paging server and the receiver for the weather radio server are both inside the rack, behind the blank panels sitting on top of the EPC.

All servers (except the cobalt raq) have multiple hard drives and share storage with the rest of the LAN.

All 5 machines also run Folding@Home.

Oh, Aaron reminds me - Never mind the labels, they are for my sighted friends who help me work on this stuff, not for me. I know what machine is what, but if I tell a friend "turn off wxcam", they wouldn't know which one it was without the labels, so Aaron made them with his label maker.

BTW: The "Ubiquiti" label on EPC switch 7 is for my wireless bridge, which has been known (with the older firmware, anyway) to lock up and need to be remotely reset.

I heart Cisco.

This is a little update to my old thread. I can't reply to it because it's more than 90 days old. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18074836-My-small-home-network

I had a few people asking exactly where the cabinet is at the top of the stairs, because it's hard to visualize. My house is built weird. There's a dead space to the left of the stairs where the cabinet sits (which also makes a very long and narrow addition to my walk-in closet that wraps around the staircase)

I recently upgraded the black server (dual PIII 1ghz processors, 1gb of ram, 640gb storage, FINALLY upgraded from fedora 3 to fedora 9), and also wanted to start using it as a router for my network. With only one line running downstairs to it, I decided the only way to properly set it up was vlans!

I bought two Cisco C2924XL switches off of ebay for like $20-30 a piece. One replaced the d-link 16 port in my network cabinet, the other was placed downstairs with the server. If you look closely in the cabinet, the first 4 ports are set up as an "unsecure" part of the network, with the cable modem, and d-link router plugged into it, the remaining ports are a "secure" vlan. One of the ports is a trunk downstairs to the other switch, which has the first port set up to the unsecure vlan, and the rest to the secure vlan. It's a little messy right now, I need to make some new patch cables, and get some rack ears for the switches.

I just bought a fancy Compaq ML370, with 6x18gb drives, and an additional 12 drive SCSI storage array with 12x 181gb (yes, 181) SCSI drives which I am soon going to set up to replace my black server, and my media server (which isn't pictured). I'm building a new rack to go in the basement where all of the servers will be relocated to. Hopefully I can get some pictures up soon.

I LOVE these managed switches though. Vlans, and VTP are awesome. I should have bought some of these a long time ago. I'm so happy. I like playing with new equipment.

My music production center

So I'm finally getting my music center up and running.
Or rather together. :)

The setup so far:

Behringer XENYX 1222FX Mixer
Future Retro 777 Analog Mono Synthesizer
Korg MicroKorg
Korg ER1 Drum Machine
Korg Kaoscillator - neat little pocket Synth.
Yamaha CS1X - Digital Synthesizer
MidiMan - 4x4 midi sport

Compaq F761US - 160 hdd w/ 2 gigs of memory

Proview Monitor - Not bad for something I found near the
dumpster. Nothing wrong with it, other than it not having a power cable.

Boat Anchor Imac - essentially useless.
Older AMD 2400+ Tower - eventually I'm going to turn this
into a file server.

The desk - another dumpster find. (as you can tell). :)
