[hard drive] Dell Inspiron 5160 down...

Help!!

I accidentally held my laptop upside down while ti was on and heard some loud clicking sound (not sure what it was).
Then last night when i tried to power it up I get a message that says it could not find my hard drive. I unscrewed the hard drive on the side out and put it back in but I still can't boot up.

Any idea what the problem might be? Maybe the hard drive died? Something bad must've happened when I flipped it over.
Let me know where I can get a replacement drive cheap. Dell sells it for 150 i think.. i can go onto ebay get a used but i want to be sure that it's the drive and not the comp.

How can i test out the drive? my sis has a 710m, wonder if i can swap the drives to test it..

Also, if i buy an external drive and i connect the usb and try my comp from an external drive? it'll be the primary.. how would i go about doing it? install OS then connect?

Any help would be great!

Can HD pins be fixed?

I am not sure if I have the terminology correct but .... can these pushed in pins be fixed? I pulled as many as I could grasp with a tweezer but several are still pushed in as you can see.

If I unscrew the cover will I be able to access them w/o destroying the drive? I am not that familiar with hard drives. There is data on this drive that is very important and this mishap happened accidentally while trying to access a fan controller.

High latency on gigabit

I just installed a gigabit router for my network.. for some reason my realtek NIC runs well but my nvidia 680i onboard NIC has a high latency problem? Anyone might know if there's a known issue with the NIC on the n680i chipset?

The EVGA 680i SLI motherboard is running P31 BIOS and latest forceware.

So far I've tried:
1) different cables
2) different ports on the router
3) different NICs (680i has 2 onboard gigabit NICs)
4) disabling one NIC and just using the other

all of the above produces the same results.

Second computer can't connect to the internet

The computer I'm on is the main computer and connects to the internet fine. I'm rarely on the other computer because the rest of my family uses that one.

I have a Linksys wired and wireless router. Both PCs are connected through Ethernet.

Some second computer facts:

•I checked the second computers onboard LAN and it is enabled
•I have checked the wires to be sure they're connected and they are.
•When I open the network connector it is receiving and sending no data.
•It was working before and I have no clue how it stopped working.
•Direct connection to the modem shows no connectivity either.
•Windows firewall is off.

I don't know what's going on. All help is appreciated.

The only things I think it can be is the onboard lan controller fried or the ethernet cord is messed up under the house or something. I'm hoping the latter so I don't have to buy a new mobo.

[memory] Is Windows Media Player killing my flash card?

I am trying to use the sync function in Windows Media player to sync 2Gb of music to a 2gb Compactflash card. My music sits on a NAS and I am requesting that WMP convert all of the files down to 192 (the best my car can play).

The sync will go fine usually for the first album or so and get the first few songs. However, during the sync process it will start saying "error" on certain songs and soon it will stop syncing. I will then have to stop the sync and try again. WMP will start spitting back errors that "the device is responding slowly, try resetting the device" YOU CAN'T RESET A MEMORY CARD!

So I will stop WMP and open Windows Explorer. Explorer will not recognize the card and tell me it needs to be formatted. So I format it (usually FAT like it came, sometimes try FAT32). The card will usually format but if I try to copy files via explorer it will start to fail as well. At this point the card is pretty much unstable.

I have went through 3 cards now and I'm at my wits end. I have tried this on two different computers now and so I can't determine if it is the cards or WMP. I tried A-Data and Transcend brands.

[hard drive] Dell Dimension 2400 -I format it &screwed it up

I have a friend that wanted to format and install xp pro on their Dell Dimension 2400 and asked me to help, it was working fine, but was getting very slow and had all kinds of games and kids programs that she didn't want on there anymore.

I didn't know that this Dell 2400 had an System Recovery Partition, and all i had to do was push F12 and do it through there without using a cd and everything would have been fine. But I jumped the gun and un-partitioned the existing 3 partitions, created 1 partition and formatted it on another computer as a slave so I could access it because it was being uncooperative on the dell.

Well now i thought everything should be fine I'll just put it back in the dell and set bios to CD-Rom and load xp up, but it's not letting me.

It just gives me the message 'strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility'
Also if i try to use the f12 menu (that I should have used #5 in the first place before formatting it)
1. Normal
2. Hard-Disk Drive C:
3. System Setup
4. IDE Drive Diagnostics
5. Boot to Utility Partition
it gives me the same error message 'strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility'

I have set BIOS to boot from CD first & Floppy first and it doesn't want to do either it just give me the same error message.

To sum up, since formating it, it seems like the motherboard or something has a built in Dell program wanting only to use the recovery partition so it doesn't let a fresh install any other way. But there has to be a way!? I've looked around the internet and several forums and couldn't find someone answered this problem before so I praying someone can help me here. If you need more info let me know.

Thanks
