Will Legacy accounts (Ameritech.net) also be upgraded 11/02

I am one of a minority of AT&T customers that still uses the legacy domain AMERITECH.NET. I did not switch a few years ago from SBC to SBCYahoo.

Recently I received the AT&T email announcing "soon we’ll be upgrading members to a new home page and email system. This is scheduled to occur on or after 11/02/2009."

Will this also include people like me that have the legacy Ameritech.net email addresses?

Two or three years ago legacy accounts got moved to a different server (Detroit) without warning! I spent 2 hours+ on hold, talking to tech support, being put on hold again, etc., to find out my email accounts had been moved to Detroit (from Chicago).

Once I found out that my email accounts had been moved to a different server I was able to reconfigure my email client and all was OK.

I worry that this time with this coming change to a Yahoo powered email/home page system that I may get lost in the shuffle.

Today tech support assured me that no changes will occur in my email address, etc., when this forthcoming upgrade occurs. This what is claimed, but will my legacy accounts be included. Am I getting correct info?

Thanks. Sorry to be so long winded but as a minority I get concerned.

It's BAAAACK

I think its been a couple of years since this icky issue poked its ugly head up, but it's back. When Outlook (2003) checks mail - 6 ameritech.net addresses and 2 gmail addresses at lease one and often two of the at&t addresses time out or register an error.

Never the gmail, always the att mail. And to answer the usual questions before they are asked, my configs for the att addresses are:

pop.att.yahoo.com
smtp.att.yahoo.com
port 995
port 465 both with SSL turned on.

There is no exact pattern - all of them do it but not in any rotation or pattern. It happens about 90% of the time mail is checked, which is every 7 minutes.

Many of you will remember that this has occurred at regular intervals in the past and was a bear to get rid of. Mine has been pretty good until a couple of weeks ago. If my memory serves me, there was never a definite cause determined, but the best possibility was over-crowded servers.

I should add that there is no problem sending mail - this is about receiving.

Is anyone else having this issue again?

[Speed Problem] Another HSI Elite Package Download at 1.2 Mbps

Posting this here first, and hopefully won't have to resort to AT&T Direct.
I have had AT&T DSL Elite 6.0/768 service since June 2009 (Speakeasy for years before that) in the Chicago area and have
been really happy about the consistent ~4.8+ Mpbs download speeds. I noticed a couple of days ago that my DL speed is now
only about 1.2 Mbps. It might have been slow like that for longer, but I just didn't notice until I had to download
a large CentOS ISO. No changes have been made to the modem or router.
I've done several speed test samples over the past 2 days, and I am consistently getting 1.2/650 with a latency of about 59 ms.
Thus the UL speed is fine, but DL is bad.

I contacted AT&T DSL support through online chat and after going through the long list of standard questions and answers,
finally got a trouble ticket to get my line tested. No trouble was found. I really don't want to go through that long process again.

I'm using an AT&T provided Westell ProLine Model F90-610025-06 with PPPoE running on a Cisco RV042 router. Since the F90
was not responding with a GUI stats screen on its IP address 192.168.1.254 (with a PC statically configured
and plugged directly into the modem), I temporarily replaced it with a D-Link DSL-2320B with PPPoE
running in the modem itself, and with only one PC hooked up to the modem. The Down/Up speeds were the
same as what I get with the F90+RV042. However, with the DSL-2320B I was abe to get the line stats below.
I temporarily moved the modem right at the NID and I get the same speeds.

As far as I can tell, the line seems okay. Download speed seems to be rate limited upstream somewhere.
I've seen other posts of people with a similar problem but with no resolution on the public forum.
Any advice on what I should do next? Thanks.

Mcafee Expiration?

Just did a disk reimage on a one of my PCs, and installed mcafee from att. in the mcafee network manager, it says last scan date for this pc is the first, and that the mcafee subscription on the pc (which I downloaded/installed yesterday from the att site) expires 12.07.09, just over a month from now.

Mcafee says to verify the subscription, use the My Account in the Common Tasks area and log into your account......the My Account option is not there in the ATT version.

Whats up with this? I noticed the mcafee package supplied from ATT is different than it used to be, and now it has an expiration date? One of the reasons Im with ATT is the malware package as part of my subscription. Or are they going to another product in December, requiring all of us to remove mcafee and reinstall another product, like they did about 2 years ago with Norton?

I did have a system indicate that the AV subscription expired a few months ago and thought it was a fluke, but maybe its not. All I did is remove, download it again from ATT, and the system has been fine so far.

The network manager shows the same expiration date on all the systems on the network. So its a guess that either the network manager is simply confused or all my ATT supplied Mcafee products will expire on 12.07.09.

Anyone at ATT or one of you wizards care to comment or clear this up?

Slower speeds than promised for months -.-

Well I found this site today after doing some searching online.

You see I have had the AT&T DSL Pro for about over a year as of now. It never occurred to me that my speeds were not up to even half what they promise of 3.0 Mb/s or even a third.
*Promised Speeds*
Downstream Speed: Up to 3.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 512 Kbps

I have been experiencing some slow connection recently after trying to download or watch live streaming video at 1.5Mb/s quality. I ran a speed test today and noticed how bad it was.

This is the speed I have been getting for about 6 hours today, doing the test every hour or so to see improvements.

I am running a Windows Vista and have been for quite a while.

I have asked the company if something could be the problem but they are not very helpful...

Not sure how to address it but I think they might have never updated my Redback profile as I remember calling to India to upgrade my speed(customer service from there is a joke :uhh:).

Anyways I hope someone here can help.

[Modem] Westell Modem F90-610025-06 Activity Light Flashing Cons

My previous modem, a Speedstream 4100, worked flawlessly for 4 years. It suddenly quit working, and I got a Westell F90-610025-06 modem. I have a Netgear wired router and one computer, a Dell with Vista Home Premium. I have noticed that the Westell modem activity light flashes nearly continuously, even when the computer is off or the firewall is locked down. It doesn't flash in sync with the internet light on the router. Has anyone else noticed this behavior of the activity light, and if so, what could be causing it? The old Speedstream light only flashed when the Netgear internet light flashed, and never did it flash continuously, even when the computer was off or the firewall was locked down.

2701-HG B Public IP issue. Repost from hardware forum.

Hello, so here is a quick rundown of my setup. I have a server that was freshly installed with server 2008, it has a dual port nic. I just installed this 2701-HG B and got everything connected and all the devices can access the internet just fine. I also have a bank of 5 static IP's.
To configure the public IP for the server I did the following.
1. Enabled the "Public Routed Subinterface"
2. Gave it the first of my 5 static ip addresses x.x.x.24
3. The subnet att gave me 255.255.255.248 is not a valid subnet for this IP so I used 255.255.0.0 and the router took that just fine.
4. I went to the address allocation table and found the server NIC that I want to use for my external connection. I then disabled the firewall on this connection and told it to use a public IP, from the dropdown I then selected the next IP in the range ATT had provided x.x.x.25
5. The router then stated to renew DHCP which I did and now the server's external nic gets the ip of x.x.x.25.

I cannot ping this nic in the server from an outside connection. Could ATT have given me incorrect information in terms of my static IP bank? Or did I configure something wrong in setting up the public IP? Any ideas?

*I have to add I now feel like an idiot, my range is .24-.31 im a fool and used .24 for my router IP on the Public Routed Interface. I intend on changing this to .25 and switching the server to .26. To me at least this makes sense. Do the kind people of DSLReports agree? Or do you think I may have another issue? The thought behind this is that I have 8 raw Ip's and 5 for my use and I used a reserved network ip.

[Services] Plans for extending DSL to rural AT&T customers?

My CO (MRINILMJ) is DSL equipped; however I live ~3 miles outside of town. (Ph 618-887-xxxx)

Are there any plans for servicing remote rural AT&T customers?

Surely there exists a low density remote terminal designed for this type of application.

[Speed Problem] A week and a day of slow downloads on my 6M conn

As the subject says, for the last week and a day, I've been plagued with slow and/or erratic download speeds. My upload speeds have been consistently good. Prior to last Thursday (10/29) i was getting 4-5Mbit downloads from FL and CA consistently.

When I arrived home Thursday night, I was getting 0.5Mbit downloads from the same sites (speedtest.net, speakeasy, net, etc). I called tech support and went through the standard stuff. That night I was told there was a 'router issue' in my CO and that it should be better the next day. Well, it _was_ ok in the morning, but, not that night when I arrived home and actually attempted to use my service. This went on all weekend long (good in the morning until about 10-11am and then bad for the rest of the day/night).

Eventually a line tech came out to investigate. He looked at everything, removed some excess length between my house and the box down the street, removed a cap from the box on the side of my house and arranged for me to get a new modem later that day (the 2wire).

None of these things fixed the issue. I ended up calling tech support a few more times, got escalated and they reprovisioned my line (had issues with the circuit and had to get an engineer involved). I thought this had fixed it, but, I was wrong. I then talked to another helpful tier 2 tech named Richard who said "oh, I just had another call from your zip (48842) with a similar issue. I think there's something going on at your CO. We'll have them fix it and call you back." His thoughts were backed up by me seeing several ATM errors in my modem (still seeing a few of these today).

Today I get home and there is a message saying "if you're still having issues, please call us." I test, still having issues, so I called and got a tech that was more interested in arguing with me than helping me.

It should be noted that I do, at times have good transfer rates and then it jumps down and around and all over the place. I'm fairly frustrated as this service has been rock solid for years. I'm also frustrated because I feel like I'm getting in consistent support. Some folks are very good (thank you Richard, Tia, Grace and Trevor) and others are just paying lip service to the idea of trying to help me out (Shame on you Bryan). I swear if someone asks me to unplug something one more time I'm going to lose my mind :)

Any thoughts? Below are some stats and answers to the questions posed by the forum when I attempted to post this message.

Thanks all!

Answers to questions asked when attempting to post:
1)Is this a new DSL installation, or has it been up and running for a long time? If new, what was your official "due" date given to you by SBC.

This is not new. I've had DSL in the Lansing area since DSL was available in the lansing area.

2) What down/up speed package did you sign up for? (e.g. Express(384-1.5), Pro(1.5-3.0), etc.)

6016/768, elite I think is what they call it :)

3) What exact make and model of modem do you have?

2wire 2701HG-B

4) What type of computer and OS do you use?

PCs with XP and vista, Hackintosh with OS X, PS3, etc

5) Do you use connection manager software, enternet 300, raspppoe or XP PPPoE, or is your modem doing the PPPoE?

PPPoe is being done on the modem.

6) Are you using a router/firewall? If so, what make, model, and firmware version?

Only the 2wire 2701 modem/router.

7) If you had service prior to April 2001 and have wires ONLY for DSL (an unbundled loop, or UL)

Not a wires only install at this house. Maybe at my first house in Lansing, but, not here :)

8) If you don't have a UL, then do you have filters or a single NID splitter installed on your line?

Filters at each jack in the house.
