Atlanta 6MB DSL at 291kpbs down?! WTF?!

I've been sync'd at 7136 for over a year with no issues. They put me on interleave to remedy some problems and it worked great. I have been having latency issues the past few days so I started investigating.

I called support (always a nightmare) and they did absolutely nothing for connection speed. In fact, they removed the interleave from the modem and I'm not sure what kind of problems that's going to cause. As it stands I am still getting 250-400kbps down/400-512 up MAX out of my 6MB line.

Is there any local place I can call and talk to an American about the problem?

Is it possible that the crappy Motorola 2200 is trashed? I still sync and get green lights all the way across.. just crap for download rates.

[Speed Problem] Slow DSL Down Rates at Night

I have been a very satisfied Bellsouth DSL customer for several years. However the last few months that has been changing. It started with a 5 day outage in the spring, that I got a constant run-around from customer support. Things have been mostly fine since then except for the last month.

I started noticing slow download times a few weeks ago. I started doing numerous speed tests on AT&T test page, speakeasy.com and speedtest.net. My 3mb connection was now averaging 1.2mb only. I called support, they did some tests, and could find nothing wrong. A tech was dispatched and of course when they arrived the next morning everything was fine and running at the full 3mb.

Things were fine for about a week, I then upgraded to the 6mb service last weekend. New speeds came through as expected and I was averaging 4.8-5.2 downloads. Last few days though the evening speeds have been dropping back to 1.2ish only. Support recommended I upgrade from my old Westell that I've had for a few years. Yesterday afternoon, my 2Wire Modem/Gateway arrived. Installed and setup with no problem and was getting a full 6mb download. Last night however, speeds were right back down to 1.2mb. Throughout all of this however my upload speeds have always been maxed out where they should be, so it is just the down pipe that seems to have the problem.

I suspect there is a capacity problem or line problem somewhere since it is fine at times and horrible in the evenings. Any recommendations as to how to bring this up with their support members?

Who's selling Motorola 2210 EASY-BAKE® modems on Ebay?

said by uid://1123227 :http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21714184-Motorola-2210021002-2210021006-modem-is-junk

These modems were junk the day they rolled off the end of the assembly line. It's like a little EASY-BAKE® Oven inside them except instead of baking chocolate chip cookies these modems are baking Texas Instruments AR7 chip cookies.
This enterprising fellow here has specially modified Motorola 2210s for sale. http://shop.ebay.com/theflatrader/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340

Description and picture from his auction.

"As you might know the problem why these modems fail, Because they run super hot and bake the modem till it fails. They are called "Easy Bake Modems".

Installing the Small Fan removes this problem. The modem runs super cool No heat problem. The fan has separate 12 VDC power supply.

I have a small fan running on my personal 1006 for over 6 Months, Never even gets warm."

.

Just can't beat good old American ingenuity can you?

He has sold several of them already to happy customers.

[Modem] Xbox Live Open NAT with Motorola Netopia 2210-02

Hey guys,

I've currently been slamming my head trying to find a solution to opening the NAT on my 2210-02 via direct plugin. I've found a temp solution, but I was wondering if there were any permanent solutions besides using a switch or router to open the NAT with direct plugin from modem to Xbox.

The temp solution I found was doing a hard reset, then plugging in my Xbox's Ethernet Cable, and having PPPoE settings setup in my Xbox's Network Config (Login info). This works like a charm, but you have to do it each time, and whenever you plug back up your comp you have "reinstall" the modem, so any configurations you have setup on your comp are lost.

The problem I have, is that when I go to setup the NAT exception and open the ports from my Netopia configuration screen (192.168.1.254), I'm never able to see my Xbox because to configure it, I need to have my comp plugged in, and when I have my comp plugged in, it's the only option I have to add the exception to. I can't statically assign my Xbox to that same IP since it's tied to the MAC of my PC.

Is there any solution to this or am I stuck using the temp solution until I get my switch back from my brother?

[Services] Wiring 2nd line jacks back into primary NID

The previous owners of our home had 2 lines, I'll assume 1 for business. As usual, AT&T wants to charge us for getting those jacks wired back in. I don't mind paying, but would rather not fork over $85 for a job that would probably take all of 10 minutes. Here are some pics of the NID and another 'splice' box (don't know exactly what to call it). As you can see in that picture, some of the wires aren't spliced in. I'm assuming these are the wires I need to get the other 2 jacks working. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

NID box was full of water and corrosion.

The heavy rain here in NC has messed up something here at my place. NO dial-tone right now at NID. My telco line is buried from pedestal to my NID box and it might be flooded at the pedestal.

What can I do I have called for service from work. Someone is supposed to be here on Friday.

How can I prevent this in the future.
