[Line Problem] Always losing sync/poor stats between 10 PM - 12

For a long story short, check the end of this post

In my world of DSL, there's always a problem, especially on a 15,700 26 ga loop. I am frequently losing sync during the later hours ever since I got back home from my father's house. By later hours, I mean between 10-12 am. I have absolutely no idea what's causing this. I was downloading a 1 gb file on Firefox 3 and got disconnected but thankfully, since FF 3 can resume downloads, my temper remained present.

As far as I can tell around the house, my grandma hasn't really bought or installed any new electrical devices that would interfere with my DSL signal. All I know is that this is really testing my patience to continue keeping my service with AT&T. I cannot get cable yet due to financial strain.

Any regular visitor here in the SE forum knows about my line. I must have had 10+ tech visits...most who couldn't find a problem with my line at all, or blamed my inside wiring which was replaced and made no difference (also, my modem was replaced)

Will calling a field tech to my line do any good at all?

Also, I've literally tested at the NID at least 30 times or so ever since the new one was installed. I'm not checking out there again unless it's absolutely necessary.

How should I approach this problem? I only have to deal with this for one more month (I hope)... but it is enough to make me pull the hair off of my head.

Long story short: (just lost sync again typing this part)

My DSL sync is being lost between the hours of 10 PM-12 AM and/or getting really, really bad stats (3 db SNR)

I have not installed and/or bought any new electrical equipment, nor has my grandma (She is handicapped and cannot leave her house as it is)

How do I approach this problem?

PPPOE Problem

So I'm having a very strange problem with my connection. When I'm doing something online, my connection will occasionally drop. Sometimes this is due to sync going out, but sometimes the sync light stays solid when it happens. If I look at the modem interface, sometimes the noise margins will be at a negative number, and it'll have the "Cannot connect to target service message". The odd thing is, while sometimes it will reconnect right away like normal, other times the PPPOE session will simply stay disconnected for as long as I do not touch the modem. I could leave it and come back hours later and it still won't reconnect until I power off and power on the modem. I've reset the modem several times and tried various other things, but this keeps popping up. What's the deal?

By the way, I'm on the 3.0 plan.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention I'm using a Netopia 2241N and a Linksys WRT54GX, both with the latest drivers. I've removed the router from the loop and still had the same problems. Also, my connection is always set to "Always On" or "Keep alive" with the modem in bridge mode using the router for PPPOE.

[Speed Problem] how 2 change DNS to "Open DNS" Westell WireSpeed

I just discovered "Open DNS" -- an answer to the snail-slow Bellsouth/ATT "fact access" speed. Know how to change DNS setting on the PC and router (to Open DNS's numbers), but don't know how to change DNS setting on the Westell WireSpeed modem sent to me by Bellsouth when I ordered fast-access (snort) a couple of years ago. Can you help?

[Services] DSL Direct/Porting Land Line Info

I'd appreciate some info, please.
We're considering dropping our land line and using our ATT cells phones, and switching to DSL Direct.
I assume the rates below are current and there are no hidden discounts??

I have 'heard' of having an existing land line phone number 'ported' to a cell phone. We would prefer to keep our land line number if possible/practical.

Any info or links on where to get more info to help with our decision will be appreciated.
Thanks

Ken
