It Sucks To Be On IFITL

Nobody has said it in a while so I felt it my duty to keep the sentiment alive. I am on fiber with no alternative to AT&T. No Cable provider serves my neighborhood. You would think they would jump at the opportunity to grab some customers after AT&T dumped Americast... Apparently the prospect of competing for 800+ new customers isn't enough to tempt either Comcast or Charter. Essentially, I am a prisoner of 1.5mb speed until I move. AT&T doesn't give a rat's rear about us and the cable companies don't see enough green, I guess.

From the AT&T IFITL Penitentiary,
Kurt

[Modem] AT&T Blocking Residential Bridging?

It seems that AT&T has either changed something major or is outright blocking 3rd-party routers from bridging. Sometime back in October, my could no longer make a PPPoE connection. So, I tried 3 different routers and 3 different modems. I put the modem into bridge mode and the router will *not* connect.

The interesting thing is that I can take this same DSL Modem and Linksys router to my office (also AT&T, but business) , swap the equipment and it works perfectly fine. Of course calling AT&T tech support is worthless (they just tell you "they don't support 3rd party routers"). Unfortunately, my only alternative is Mediacom (ugh).

[Speed Problem] Slow DSL Down Rates at Night

I have been a very satisfied Bellsouth DSL customer for several years. However the last few months that has been changing. It started with a 5 day outage in the spring, that I got a constant run-around from customer support. Things have been mostly fine since then except for the last month.

I started noticing slow download times a few weeks ago. I started doing numerous speed tests on AT&T test page, speakeasy.com and speedtest.net. My 3mb connection was now averaging 1.2mb only. I called support, they did some tests, and could find nothing wrong. A tech was dispatched and of course when they arrived the next morning everything was fine and running at the full 3mb.

Things were fine for about a week, I then upgraded to the 6mb service last weekend. New speeds came through as expected and I was averaging 4.8-5.2 downloads. Last few days though the evening speeds have been dropping back to 1.2ish only. Support recommended I upgrade from my old Westell that I've had for a few years. Yesterday afternoon, my 2Wire Modem/Gateway arrived. Installed and setup with no problem and was getting a full 6mb download. Last night however, speeds were right back down to 1.2mb. Throughout all of this however my upload speeds have always been maxed out where they should be, so it is just the down pipe that seems to have the problem.

I suspect there is a capacity problem or line problem somewhere since it is fine at times and horrible in the evenings. Any recommendations as to how to bring this up with their support members?

[Line Problem] Constant dropping of connection - Memphis

My service has been rock solid for quite awhile now and last week started dropping offline and random times during the day. Rebooting the Westel usually bring the connection back, but this is getting to be a major pain in the backside. Line speeds when it is running are exceptional, no complaints there.

Modem here is a Westel 2200 with a Linksys/CISCO RV082 Router. No changes have been made to the hardware.

Any suggestions?

Bellsouth support (sorry AT&T) says they see no line trouble, as usual.

Thanks

Kevin

Trying to install with user 600 miles away..frustrated

I have a customer who is opening up a small business down in Georgia. He has received his self install kit and has setup his Motorola modem.

The modem has power, and his laptop grabs an ip address from the router. Our first attempt at running the install cd ended up with a corrupt registry..I am Leary to do it again..

Why is the install cd needed?
Did my user get a user name and password already?
Can i call into technical support for assistance with the final setup.
I am connecting via a very poor cell connect and my remote sessions are painful.

Does the business class dsl use ppoe or some type of authentication username/password on the router?

Sbcglobal still blocking

In July I was able to use my email address on my son's server to send to somebody at sbcglobal.net. This week it was bounced without any message.
Some months ago I was not able to get messages to my home owners association as the person has an sbcglobal account and am still blocked.
My son can't be bothered to contact AT&T as he feels they are run by a bunch of IDIOTS and it is too much effort to get anything done.

I have a gmail account which gets through but it is sad that AT&T take such an attitude.

I guess my only solution is to use gmail when I need to, and THROW ALL THOSE INVITATIONS for ATT communication services in the garbage.

Atlanta 6MB DSL at 291kpbs down?! WTF?!

I've been sync'd at 7136 for over a year with no issues. They put me on interleave to remedy some problems and it worked great. I have been having latency issues the past few days so I started investigating.

I called support (always a nightmare) and they did absolutely nothing for connection speed. In fact, they removed the interleave from the modem and I'm not sure what kind of problems that's going to cause. As it stands I am still getting 250-400kbps down/400-512 up MAX out of my 6MB line.

Is there any local place I can call and talk to an American about the problem?

Is it possible that the crappy Motorola 2200 is trashed? I still sync and get green lights all the way across.. just crap for download rates.

Who's selling Motorola 2210 EASY-BAKE® modems on Ebay?

said by uid://1123227 :http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21714184-Motorola-2210021002-2210021006-modem-is-junk

These modems were junk the day they rolled off the end of the assembly line. It's like a little EASY-BAKE® Oven inside them except instead of baking chocolate chip cookies these modems are baking Texas Instruments AR7 chip cookies.
This enterprising fellow here has specially modified Motorola 2210s for sale. http://shop.ebay.com/theflatrader/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340

Description and picture from his auction.

"As you might know the problem why these modems fail, Because they run super hot and bake the modem till it fails. They are called "Easy Bake Modems".

Installing the Small Fan removes this problem. The modem runs super cool No heat problem. The fan has separate 12 VDC power supply.

I have a small fan running on my personal 1006 for over 6 Months, Never even gets warm."

.

Just can't beat good old American ingenuity can you?

He has sold several of them already to happy customers.

[Modem] Wireless ADSL Modem for AT&T in S.C.

I would like a combined ADSL/Wireless modem, however I would like one with a detachable antenna so that I can install an external outside antenna for my farm. Having a difficult time figuring out which modem is compatible with AT&T ADSL that has a detachable antenna with a standard connector (RP-SMA or RP-TNC) that I can purchase an add-on external outside antenna. Can anyone give me a couple of ideas as to which modem might work for me? (I guess it is a valid assumption and option, that I can just use the standard AT&T modem and then add a WAP/router... right? But I would rather have it as one unit to save on space...) Many thanks!

[Speed Problem] .. Is This a Joke?

I am fed up with this.

I have been running constant 500 ms ping, and under 1 mb of download regularly. I have DSL Ultra.

Can anyone tell me why in the world I would have this much ping, and why the speeds are so slow.

It used to be fine.
