Strange modem readings...

Hey guys! I's my first time posting here. I hope you can answer some questions I have...

Anyways, I got the AT&T Basic package since I'm far away from the CO. They sent me a Motorola 2210 but I had to pay $50 since I only got the Basic service. At first, I had no problems (I got the service in March), but around April-May I started having sync problems. The sync problems only happened during the day. I called up AT&T and told them about it, so they sent a technician over. He fixed nothing since the problems were still occurring (and now they want me to pay $60 for nothing, but that's another story).

I should mention that a phone (not dsl) technician came over too and he said that the apartments were I live were badly wired. (Two thin cables are what make up the phone wiring).

Also, I wanted you guys to check these Modem stats. They seem...strange to me:
                      Rx Tx
140 Current Rate 384 384
141 Previous Rate 0 0
142 DSL Max Rate - -
143 DSL Min Rate - -
144 Current ATTN DR 2592 768
145 Current SNRM 15.0 16.0
146 Current LATN 59.0 31.0
147 Current SATN - -
148 Current TP 1.2 10.2

I used to be getting 384/768 on line 144 but recently i've been getting these results during nighttime. I really wish you guys could tell me what you think about the sync problems and about these readings! Thank you very much for any replies!

*Sorry for posting so much...*

[Home Network] DSL modem to Router config

I spent 2 hours working on configuring a friend's ATT DSL modem connection to a wireless router with only limited success. Without going through all the trial and error, what I ended up with was duplicating the config described here:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15694046

Modem is set to:
- PPP on modem
- Always attempt to connect
- No use private IP address
- IP = 192.168.0.1

The Router is not a linksys but is set to:
- Router Local IP: 192.168.2.1
- Router Local subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

- WAN Static IP: 192.168.1.64
- WAN Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
- Gateway 192.168.0.1
- DNS set to the IP addresses listed for DNS in the modem.

In the above config, as soon as I plug the dsl modem into the router's WAN port and then do a DNS refresh on the computer (hooked to router via wire), I get a notice that there is a IP conflict and that a certain MAC address (the router's) is already using 192.168.1.64. At this point, I can't get back to the router's web interface or the internet.

I then changed the router's IP to 192.168.1.65 and then the conflict went away and the computer was assigned 192.168.1.64 and then it can access the internet but not the router's web interface. If another client (wired or wireless) connects to the net, it too will receive the 192.168.1.64 address and then there is another conflict. So it works, but only one client can connect and use the internet at a time.

I'm really stumped now on what to try next. Anybody work through this before and can help me out?

Thanks.

Good speed or bad speed?

I just upgraded my DSL service from PRO to Elite, and I've notice that the speed has been increased (a minute ago).

This is the result:
Download Speed: 4293 kbps (536.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 652 kbps (81.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

My question is is this a good speed or bad speed or do I need to tell them to do something?

My speeds are good, but my QoS is terrible - for gaming

My internet connection is decent, fine for downloading and web browsing. I use a tunneling service (XBox Connect) to play Xbox games online. It works fine when I join other hosts, but when I host, everyone says it's real choppy, even if their ping is 30-40 ms, which would typically be a very good connection.
It used to work fine when I had AT&T DSL Pro, I'm almost positive it got weird after I upgraded to Elite.
I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of anything I can try to try and eliminate the issue.
I found a nice testing service that seemed to show the same issue - http://streamengine.ubicom.com/html/lower.cfm?page=test_your_network.playability_score
My Internet Connection OPScore is 4.8/5.0, but my QoS OPScore is 1.4/5.0 and indicates a huge spike in latency and jitter when there's background traffic (I turn off everything when playing online, but something is going on).
Thanks!

[Connection Problem!]Hight PING

I play or used to play a lot of online games but my internet connection kept dropping and I had high ping that fluctuated from 30-800. I also had a lot of static on my phone line too. So I called technician to fix it and he redid the wiring outside and redid the the wiring on the pole. It fixed my static on the phone and disconnections in games but my ping isn't fixed. and the Ethernet light blinks green

Also I have an advertised 3000kbps/512kbps connection but I have done various speed tests and I usually get 500kbps/100bkps to 1000kbps/300kbps. I can understand it not being the advertised price 100% of the time but I'm getting 1/3 or less of what I should be getting!

Info:

I have a 2Wire 2701HG-B

Recently Upgraded from Express To Pro

So on Monday the 23rd (had typoed the 26th, today previously, oops) I called to upgrade my DSL service from Express to Pro. Was told on Wednesday it would be put into affect. The rate was Rate:1536/384 Max:3328/1052 for 6 months prior to this according to the log. On Tuesday the link went down briefly and came back up with Rate:1984/512 Max:7968/1048. I figured it was a ramp up process. Then it went down again a little later and came back with Rate:1984/512 Max:2400/1044.

Called today Thursday and they say Pro is active even though the records on their website still indicate express. So am I stuck getting lousy pro or should I wait 10 days, see what happens, and get them to bump the speed? Info posted below if required:

1) Which AT&T DSL Package do you have –
Pro (3.0Mbps down) supposedly.

2) Which modem brand and model do you have?
2Wire 1000HW

3) Are you using a router? If so, provide the brand and model.
See Above

4) Is your PPPoE login info (username & password) entered in the modem, in your router or do you use PPPoE software?
See Above

5) Describe the lights on the modem when the trouble occurs.
All Green.

6) Confirm that you’ve checked to ensure that ALL devices plugged into the wall jacks serviced by your DSL phone number (except the DSL modem) have filters fitted.
Check.

7) Confirm that you’ve powered off the modem and started it again and whether or not that made any changes with your problem.
Admittedly I haven'y tried this since the 'problem' started earlier today and the modem has been in use so far.

8) Do you hear any type of noise on the DSL phone line or any other unusual telephone symptoms?
No.

9) Provide line stats as follows…

b) From a 2wire modem/router -- Go to this address with your browser --
»homeportal/xslt?PAGE=J03&THISPAG···PAGE=J03 and copy/paste the content into your post

The above link does not work for me despite having a 2Wire.
Here is the current Broadband Link – Statistics.

Current Rate: 1984 kbs 512 kbs

Max Rate: 2400 kbs 1044 kbs

Current Connection:

Current Noise Margin 10.0 dB 16.0 dB

Current Attenuation 47.8 dB 29.0 dB

Current Output Power 16.4 dB 5.7 dB

Note the max has always been higher than 2400 until yesterday...

10) If you have a speed problem, use the AT&T Speed Test here -- »helpme.att.net/dsl/speedtest/ and post your results.
Download = 1.497 Mbps
Upload = 339.06 kbps
This admittedly may be a little off, line is in use atm, but it's highest test so far has been 1.6 down.

We got this rather shrill notice from ATT-Yahoo today. I've looked all our email clients and they are all properly configured using SSL for both POP and SMTP. They have been properly configured all along.

This is the first time we have received such a notice. Anybody else get this? Any idea why?
